  1. Face-meet-palm -average...AVERAGE... that means, some people need that much space to walk, whilst others would jog it, and others would take it a s a"walk in the park" if you excuse the pun (if they are into running)... so they have to AVERAGE it out for everything from the couch potato to the fastest Victorian runner. no way would they MANDATE that everyone HAS TO WALK 5km (radius)...c'mon now... lol -if you think I am bothered/motivated by pay when I am watching patients and colleagues dying, you clearly have no clue about the majority of healthcare professionals, yes, I am one of them, for whatever reason that line got lost in the edit -its impossible to keep everyone alive, I am obviously not that stupid. But I wouldn't risk unnecessary deaths all in the name of "economy" like i said, no one has gotten ANYTHING right, but we are definitely NOT doing anything wrong by being cautious
  2. Because the average person walks at just over 5km/hr Therefore if you are allowing people an hour of excercise (walking jogging etc) it makes sense to have a radius around that distance. Try doing laps of 100m for an hour... on your street and you'll see why your "arbitrary" method makes less sense than the more sensible 5km radius. One of the main things necessary to fight this condition if/when you do get it is relative cardiovascular and pulmonary fitness... So walking and excercise is good in preparation for your body, in case you ever get it. Therefore...they can't promote excercise and then not facilitate it. Amongst other things. NO ONE HAS GOT ANYTHING RIGHT in terms of all the lockdown methods... Everyone is trying what may or may not work... I don't know Dan Andrews.. I didnt vote for the man .. but I doubt he would sit there with his pinky in his teeth scheming how to take advantage of this pandemic [\begin rant] Economy can stuff it, no monetary value can be placed on human lives. All you cooing about dictatorships should try living under a TRUE dictatorship, without the backing of a western citizenship and consulate.... Then you'll know why there's so many refugees in Oz Think Dan Andrews is a dictator? Jump on a boat and go to New Zealand, they are mandated by international law to accept refugees, let's see if they take you seriously with your claims of "dictator Dan". Otherwise, shut up...(about dictatorship) [/Rant over]
  3. Yup... another vote for Moneycorp from me
  4. I think you can only pick one basis for your application and go with it I am not an agent (there are many reputable ones here), but just form looking at what you posted, I would suggest you go with your partners teaching qualification as the primary application route and you being included on her application. Have a look for a good agent of your choice for further advice.
  5. Hi @Maria18 I've sent you a private message containing 4 jobs I found within 5 minutes of searching. We do have a shortage of (good) mental health nurses in Victoria, mainly down to the way in which nursing is trained here. they only do about 800hrs or so of placements as general nurses and they may get a month or so of mental health placement. So your 2000plus hrs of mental health training hours alone will give you significantly more knowledge than most staff. plus your two years experience as well. (though this is the only experience that counts at visa assessment time)
  6. thanks @paulhand Do you know exactly where/how? only because thoe two documents are similar, but not the same, and I could not (and still haven't in the last hour) found them anywhere on the DHA site
  7. I used a medium sized movecube and used STORAGE KING set of boxes similar to this, but just boxes (wuthout the tape, shredding bag etc)... three sizes... two set of them fit in the medium Movecube and there was still space for bikes, other plastic tubs etc
  8. I am fascinated by these two very similar documents which seem to give assurance to holders of 189, 190, 489 and 491 visas that they are under no pressure to enter by their "initial entry date" The fact that i can only seem to find these documents on the websites and not on the homeaffairs site is concerning. I came accross them whilst googling along the same terms out of concerns for an offshore friend who has a fast approaching "initial entry" date. can anyone help? I've tried all kinds of combinations of searh terms to get the document directley from Homeaffairs site without any luck @Raul Senise or any of the other agents, have you guys seen or heard of this? I got the .pdf below from THE MIA WEBSITE Information on first entry to Australia.pdf its a bit different to the picture version below from THIS AHWC WEBSITE
  9. I would advise getting a sponsored visa. You will still be able to get a permanent visa faster by coming over on a sponsored visa, working through your probation and asking HR to sponsor your permanent visa. Major drawback with that is, you are tied to your employer. There is a lot of burnout amongst metropolitan Area Mental Health Services. So I would suggest you get some experience in UK, then come over when your NHS skills are kosher because then you can be resilient to the "different" way of working this side. Otherwise you too will just crash an burn out along the Aussie nurses, who fortunately for them, will be allowed to change their speciality and go into any other field as they like, whilst you are stuck with our speciality. (Source - I am a RMN/RPN with lots of experience and currently in Victoria on a permanent visa)
  10. Or you can also go on the council website for your area and get school phone numbers and call them directly to see if they need CRT (Casual Relief Teachers). Register direct with the school and they will call you when they need you. Rate is about the same as agency ... I think
  11. OH was registered with an agency and for the short time they did it, the work was there. Availability was given for a 1hour radius (driving) and there was work 70% of the time by phone in the morning, if not already agreed to specific stints (like 2weeks sick leave cover in one place etc)
  12. How large is "large"? I ask because I had to hand load my Movecube with assistance from their driver. Had to load the van in an hour. It wasn't a luton van either so everything was literally hoisted by hand into the "cube" inside the van.
  13. HI all... just searched for Police clearance and this post came up I am looking at another job and they have requested an international police clearance went onto the AusPost website... they state "UK Police Checks require An additional UK Specific Release form (Declaration of Consent form) A clear copy of an ID document (Passport, driving license or birth certificate); and Proof of current address. Current address document must always show the candidate’s name and the current address, and should fall into one of the following categories (documents issued recently are preferred): - Proof of Address documents issued within the last 30 days. (Must show issue date) Example: bank statement, utility bill, credit card Statement, any general letter/services, mortgage statement, council tax statement, P45/P60 statement (Posted directly to the candidate/Original PDF) - Proof of Address documents from ANY date. Example: Driving license, Firearms Certificate, EU National ID Card. Note: Tenancy agreements, change of address labels, police checks," So far I have scanned my passport in their database. I have an original Telstra bill in .pdf format ready to go QUESTIONS: 1) do I need to Scan an additional document, eg drivers licence as well 2) where can I get the "Additional UK SPECIFIC RELEASE FORM (Declaration of Consent form)" Found it!! 3) Am I reading this correctly that I should merge these .pdf's into one document and then submit?
  14. Yup. I know a specialist maths teacher from UK who has landed a maths teaching job. Only to discover they also have to teach biology, psychology and RE as well. I think the general rule of thumb is that children go into education from ages 5-18 and at that point they are ready for Uni. If they exit at 16 in whatever system, most countries have institutions to facilitate this. So some countries have grade 1 (age 5) up to year 13/form 6/ upper 6th (age 18) Others have Prep/Foundation (age 5) then year 1 (age 6) up to year 12 (age 18) Others have kindergarten (age 4 -not formally school), Prep (age 5) then year 1 (age 6) also up to year 12 (age 18) Then others (UStates especially) have kindergarten (age 5) then 1st grade (age 6) up to 12th grade (age 18) Probably easier to track education based on the ages being taught and wether it's an age 16 exit pathway or an age 18 exit into University pathway
  15. I think they are doing ok. They have their moments too when they miss something in particular about the UK. A "holiday" trip back may be on the books, but for now we are doing ok with SKYPE and FaceTime calls for loved ones.
  16. This may be industry related. I'm in healthcare, at a government hospital, and one of my colleagues recently took up the post of assisting foreign employed staff in settling in. A handbook was created with input from all prior employed staff's knowledge and a one to two week system was created. They land, are picked up at airport, settled in an AirBnB house, left for a day or two...then its banks, Centrelink, GP registration etc. Then they are shown around one or two suburbs and they can choose their own rental accommodation. Airbnb etc is paid for by the staff member. Pick up from airport and initial run abouts are on the hospital in one of the fleet vehicles
  17. It's significantly better than the UK for me! Though naturally on occassion one does find some things they miss from "Back Home"
  18. Do you have a preference where you want to live? Do you want to live near work? I'm willing to help with searching around directly with hospitals that satisfy your criteria from your message and my two questions. I'm not an agent... I got my job whilst in the UK and I figured I could have done a few things slightly differently
  19. Have managed to keep my UK Bank account active without any issue using my Aussie address, (in case someone asks)
  20. anecdotal. My other half who is the primary holder of the PR we RECEIVED did a SCITT along with Secondary Maths Teacher PGCE. All she asked was for the University to send transcripts along with an outline of the programme. no question was made of it. Out of interest, @Lambert, are you certain your friend did not receive their visa SPECIFICALLY due to the SCITT and nothing else could have been the reason? @S&J have a chat with a MARA agent
  21. I usedan agent to move over to Oz... intial consultation was free... then the paid one lasted about an hour and cost us about 35pounds... and that was only to reassure him all we had said in the short 15 minute conversation was actually fact... from there, a payment schedule coinciding with the stages of our PR was sent to us and we worked reall well with them. very straightforward. BOTH @wrussell and @Raul Senise have consistently given equally good advice when I read through the threads ....and on some occasions better advice than my agent (but that's with benefit of hindsight on my part). I would suggest you go with either of the above two... not just to talk... I can safely assume that your situation is going to require an agents input and I don't think that'll be free
