Who to bank with in Aus

Hi all, My husband and I, along with our three kids are due to move to NSW later this year and I'm currently looking at setting up an Aus bank account ready for renting etc. We currently bank with Monzo and I'm not exaggerating when I say that this bank has changed how we spend money for the better. Everything is so clearly laid out, I like being able to organise money into pots and that money then becomes your unavailable funds that you can't touch unless you withdraw from your pot. You can also set up a bills pot that bills come directly out of so you don't need to worry about accidentally spending bills money and I like that all of these features are in one joint account. Does anyone know of any banks in Aus that have these same features as I've been searching high and low and it's unclear. I'd rather not have to open multiple accounts (one for bills, one for spending, one for whatever etc.) as seeing everything compiled in one place really helps us to have financial clarity. If such a bank in Aus doesn't exist then fine, but I thought it'd be worth the ask. Thanks in advance!

    Keeping UK Bank account

hello all. I'm 4 weeks away from my move... yeaay!!! I've just realised that there is a small debt I won't be able to pay off in full before leaving. and the few phone calls I've made to utilities etc keep asking me to keep my direct debit open for refunds if needed...and then the taxman just said they may owe me money as I'm moving mid tax year and would have been taxed on pace for a full years wages.. and so on it appears I have to keep my account open... how do I go about This? my debt is with my bank.
  3. Afternoon, I am an Australian Citizen with 2 children under 2 and a husband who is currently a fireman. I work as a makeup artist. We obviously have no visa worries but I have LOTS of questions! We are planning on moving to Sydney & initially renting. Is there a website/source anyone knows about that gives you a checklist/moving info? So far Things on my list are- How to organise medicare card How to get Tax file number I have a bank account in Aus but how do I get my husband one? What do we need to have to rent (bank accounts/proof of employment/one million dollars?!) Is there a benefits system I can apply to? (I am due to give birth to my 2nd in November and we are planning on moving in February 2016 so I will probably be unable to work for a few months initially while the baby is so young) As we understand it the NSW Fire Department do not recognise my husband LFB qualifications. Does anyone know of any industries that a fireman could be employed in?? We have savings to buffer us for a few months but if anyone has recently moved I would love to know your approx costs all up!! Any advice or links to appropriate advice would be massively appreciated! Thanks
  4. Hi what would people say the best bank is to go with over here? i signed up with ANZ but they charge me a monthly fee for having the account and have just charged me for transferring money from the UK when ive already paid fees to my UK bank for the transfer. I find this appalling.
  5. Hi guys. This is my first post here so be nice haha. I'm landing into Perth on the 5th of August on a WHV, and as many others have done, been looking at the best way to manage my UK finances when I arrive in Australia with regards to transferring money over etc.... Done quite a bit of research with all the UK banks to find out what my options are and I thought it was worth putting it out there that's Marks & Spencer have brought out a new current account which enables you to withdraw cash free worldwide from ATM's - without the foreign exchange charge! I thought this was worthwhile posting as it might be pretty good for anybody in similar circumstances to save yourself some pennies when you're thinking of setting off on your travels! Andrew :-)

Do I need much money in the bank?

Hi there. Been trying to research something that seems to be an urban myth. I had always heard that you need a very healthy bank account to move to Australia, but can't seem to find any guidelines on this. Common sense dictates that we will need at least enough money to get set up with a place to live, transport and enough to see us through a month or two of bills and groceries. Is there an amount laid out by immigration requirements or is it just left to common sense? We will start work approx a week after moving out. Hopefully someone can help, thank you in advance.
  7. Hello! I am going to emigrate from Sweden to Australia within one or two years. :daydreaming: Now I would like to open an Australian bank account in order to place some money Down Under in advance. Which bank and what kind of an account would be the best for me? Looking forward to a little answer from somebody. Kindly Marie
  8. Hi folks! We're heading for OZ approximately in the end of the year. As far as I understood from some of the older threads here, it is possible to open bank account before actually arriving and provide some arrival date estimation. My question is about how is it practically done? Can just do it online? If yes, how? And the second question is regarding money transfer. Can I deposit some money after opening the account? If yes, how that can be done? Please notice that I do not arrive from UK. Thanks in advance!! Eugene
