I can’t find anything bad for us in the budget yet, but there is a lot of detail and I am sure we will get to know more when hear from the experts.
Looking forward to Alan Collett summery.

I agree, we listened to the whole speech and nothing was directed at Immigration. Peter Dutton was sat there with a inscrutable smile and who knows what will come out in the next few weeks. On a separate related note, Peter Dutton is reported to be very close to welcoming South African farmers with a quoted figure of I believe, 10,000 potential places. How this will affect the overall Immigration numbers is anyone's guess and if some sectors will face a cut or this will be an addition.

Hello Everyone!

I am new to this thread - as a contributor - but have been viewing the thread since the 'Orphan' days. I loved Orphan's blog, as it was so informative and well-written and I was sorry to see him go. However, that was in 2014 (if memory serves) and things have changed - somewhat.

My story (briefly):

Back at the end of 2014, both daughters were in Australia, one with citizenship and the other awaiting permanent residency (now received) but they were both single and at the back of my mind I had convinced myself that, eventually, they would come home. My partner suggested that I ask  (with no emotional baggage) to tell me honestly what their plans were.

So they told me  . . . honestly.

At the beginning of 2015 we started to get the paperwork ready to apply for 143 visa and we lodged it in March 2015. A year later we sold the house to release money for the visa. Back then we thought we would have to wait 24 months - hahaha!

The waiting and sending off 'Test' emails and being in turn heartened and dejected began. As you ALL know - once you have made this decision - your life changes totally. My partner is still working, but I stopped when we sold the house, to move into rented near to where he works. But - no matter what you do - work, hobbies, voluntary work, socialising - it is always at the back of your mind and often at the very front - dancing around, evilly!!

Then on 5/01/18 we were contacted to supply the usual extra paperwork.(How anyone passes the medicals without their blood pressure going through the roof is beyond me!) Extra blood tests were required - more stress and expense.

Then the AoS experience.

My daughter duly went to Centrelink with all the paperwork on 9/01/18. True to their word a telephone interview was carried out seven weeks later. Two weeks after that she was asked to pay the bond, etc. The bank guarantee was then submitted to Centrelink on 12/03/18. Then we waited for the Acceptance Letter . . . . and waited . . . . and waited. Five weeks later my daughter, after being put on hold for an hour, managed to talk to someone at Centrelink who read a message to her from the AoS team. They said that there was an eighteen week wait from lodgement. When she asked which lodgement date - the person at the other end of the phone said 18 weeks from lodgement of bank guarantee in March!!

I had to stay in bed all morning.

BUT - she was given the wrong info! It was 18 weeks since original lodgement in January! Last Thursday we received the AL and promptly sent it off. I had an email today acknowledging it and saying a case officer would be assigned soon. No idea how long it will be now. Reading all your interesting info makes me think it might be July and the new financial year.

This whole process requires immense patience and fortitude (even though you could almost chew your own hand off in frustration at time). I feel so lucky to be in the position to be able to apply in the first place - and I have to keep reminding myself of this fact. Now we are on the last leg I feel much more relaxed and resigned to waiting.

My appreciation to the overworked people at Centrelink and PVC. Thank you for your efforts and for keeping us informed when you can!!

Hi! :) My friends said they would provide AoS for my parents but as they are both working long hours and in jobs where they cant just take time off it is hard for them to go to Centrelink. Can anyone tell me if they still have to go to Centrelink to hand in any documents or to sign even if they apply online? Thanks :)

I hope they're close friends! Have they read and fully understood what they will be signing? https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/supporting/Pages/114/Assurance-of-support.aspx

You can apply online I believe  but you still have to take ID in personally to Centrelink

Hello!

This is a question for CAT LADY. I notice that there was a four month gap between your AoS acceptance letter and the request for 2nd VAC.

Do you know the reason why there was such a long delay?

Were you applying for 143 visa? Were you already resident in Australia?

Cheers

Done. No one seems to be requested for declaration letter as "sole" assurer during AoS interview?

Can I just start by saying I am not an expert and you should always consult a professional agent for everything important (I must get that disclaimer added to my signature)

So, I am just wondering if they mean 'sole', as in the only assurer, or do they mean you have to declare you are single.

It would not make sense if they are asking both, you and your sister, to declare you are each the only assurer. But it will make a difference to the AoS if ether of you have partners or children or any other dependents.

I hope this helps.

I think they mean 'sole' as in the only assurer as we both are singles. I already talked with my agent about this, but I'm still wondering if anybody else has similar request.

Thanks for your response, SusieRoo.

Hi Merryweather.  I have no idea why there was such a long gap between the AoS acceptance letter and the request for the 2nd vac.  Yes, it was a 143 application and I was in the UK.  I completed on my house sale in June, but luckily my sister had room for me to move in with her while I waited.

Hi welcome. Thanks for sharing your experience. I am the sponsor of my parents. Now we are on the same page, having all supplementary documents finished and waiting for the request of the 2nd VAC. I noticed your lodgement date is in Mar 2015, while mine is May 2015. I believe your case will very soon be processed since currently PVC is finalising applications up to 30 April 2015, while mine probably will not be processed until the new FY.

I couldn't reconcile some of these dates with the dates in your signature.

When you say "AOS Paid on 12/4/2018" in your signature, do you mean you transferred the money to the assurer on that date?

Also you signature says you paid and submitted the paperwork to centrelink on the 17/4/2018, but you've written above that you paid the bond on April 9. Assuming you paid and submitted the paperwork on 17/4/2018, it only took 3 weeks to get the acceptance letter. I submitted the bond paperwork to centrelink around 17/4/2018 too ... but still waiting for the acceptance letter.

Subclass 410 and 405 Visa Holders to be Offered Permanent Visas from the Parent Visa Program
08/05/2018UncategorizedAlan Collett
The Australian Federal Budget has been handed down today.

Hidden away on page 14 of the revenue measures (pdf reader required) is the following narrative:

The Government will introduce a pathway to permanent residency for holders of Retirement (subclass 410) and Investor Retirement (subclass 405) visas.

From 2018-19, a portion of the planned parent permanent migration places will be quarantined for retirement visa holders each year. Retirement visa holders in Australia will be eligible to apply onshore for a permanent visa through the Parent (subclass 103) or Contributory Parent (subclass 143) visa streams.

Retirement visa holders will be exempted from some parent visa requirements that they would typically be unable to meet, such as having family in Australia.

The pathway will remain open until all retirement visa holders who wish to transition to permanent residency have done so.

As part of the establishment of the pathway, the Government will close the subclass 405 visa to new applicants. The subclass 410 visa is already closed to new applicants.

This measure continues Minister Dutton’s pattern of displacing visa applicants who are already awaiting the progression of an application: he has already undertaken a similar measure when introducing a skilled visa pathway for New Zealand citizens, displacing intending subclass 189 Skilled Independent visa applicants.

While this will be good news for the 405 and 410 visa holders in Australia who have been lobbying for permanent residency for many years the consequence for existing parent visa applicants is likely to be increased delays in the granting of their visas.

Indeed, we think it is surprising that parents of children in Australia – where the balance of family test is satisfied – will apparently be lower in the visa processing pecking order than those who will often have no other family in Australia.
