On 1 occasion they were very helpful. That was when we actually went to a centrelink office compared to over the phone.  We even got a callback from centrelink...but all that was, was to say to wait. 

To be honest it completely depends on the person you are dealing with. Some are more competent/willing to help than others, others just really don't care...

I lodged Oct 2014 and was "invited to prepare documents" at the beginning of this year and didn't get my visa until end September.  I'm not really sure what the system is or whether it depends on individual case officers. Maybe some work on their files faster than others?

CPV lodgement date - 4th may 2015

My father is main applicant and I am dependent child. My elder sister is sponsorer she lives in Sydney. 

I am full time student and never employed. 

I have seen ppl who shows their "Transfer of Funds" from their parents account on monthly basis to prove their dependency on them. I haven't transferred any fund as I live with them so I directly get "Cash" to end my meets

 

Now My Question is If the case officer would ask me to show my bank statement and later on come to know that there is no "Transfer of Funds" from my parents account

would it make any barrier?

I think you are probably right and I keep trying to stay calm and tell myself that it will happen soon for us.   But is it so frustrating when ages ago they contacted people who lodged 3 days after us, and are now contacting those who lodged 6 weeks after us for paperwork.   I see that things have moved on to processing 5th March now, so we are on the move again - just a week ahead of us now.  We are heading out to Australia on Monday for 4 weeks, so in a way we won't mind if takes another couple of weeks for us to be contacted so that we are not panicking out there when we should be having a relaxing holiday!  If we are contacted in a couple of weeks we will book our medicals in UK for as soon as we get home and arrange the police checks on-line while we are out there.  Form 80 ready to go, although I must check if the format I used is still current! 

Hope your application is moving smoothly.  I see you had a good looking doctor for your medical!!

This sounds very probable.

I would love to know why IMMI didn't reach the cpv cap last year (meaning we lost all those parent visa places). So I'm wondering if this new 'Prepare' method has something to do with preventing it happening again this year.

I think we are very lucky when applying from the UK or South Africa as our bureaucratic and legal systems are similar to Australia's, which make it much easier for IMMI to verify genuine documents etc. But because we only make up about 8% of parent visa applications (the vast majority from China and India) I imagine there are many additional complications when immi is dealing with case like @Zaki (above). Where it appears there are difficulties in proving the dependence of a child (I hope you get this sorted soon and it maybe worth you engaging @Alan Collett).

So It would make more sense if immi started working on these cases much earlier. 28 days is not long enough to fill in form 80 in my thinking (I have been slowly completing mine for the last year). Also a pre-meical-medical option would help, please (just in case immi is reading this) and I think this is something that is already in place for the non-cpv's.

Re the handsome doctor:  Oh man!!! That was always my dream when I was young and curvy but it turned into a nightmare just then when I am old, wrinkly and bulgy. But he was still soothing on the old eyes.?

I don't know whether or when one should expect any news back re medicals ,AOS or anything really. I just feel so lost and.confused. We also need to.plan around little Kitty Cat. So lots of things to organise and moving from one rental to housesitting to who kn0ows where makes it so much harder.

I would appreciate some advice from posters who have already had their medicals. I recently had a procedure, an Ablation, for an irregular heart heart beat, which will now hopefully be ok with medication. Has any one else had similar problem or even something more serious and not found it a problem towards getting their visas? 

How strict is the medical?

My mam had a mini stroke before her medical (at 56). They haven't received the visa yet but the doctor who conducted the medical just asked for a specialist report to be emailed to him. She was obviously nervous it would impact the outcome but he did say to her that this is a parent visa, and as such many applicants have various medical conditions.

I would say something that has been successfully treated and now under proper control, and not expensive to continue to treat, should not be a problem, but keep any letters/reports safe and take with you all the info you can for the medical exam.  Just my opinion, but at our ages we probably all have some sort of condition.

The ridiculous thing is that neither my husband or I felt ill and within a month of my procedure he was taken to hospital last week with potentially a similar problem and will have tests. You couldn't make it up! 

We are in a different position to most applicants as we already live in Oz on a retirement visa, and are concerned that if our CPV should be refused where we would stand on our existing visa, would hate to jeopardise it as it gives us the right to live here, but never leads to PR.

I don't expect anyone other than an MA to know the answer, just worrying slightly.

That might make things a little more complicated but I can't see that it would affect the CPV decision.  Might be a good idea to consult a MARA anyway.

From what I can gather  retirement investors have no access to Medicare and have private medical insurance so it would come down to whether the doctors were happy you fit the criteria for Medicare. I do hope everything goes ok for you both - as Catlady says - at our ages we are more likely to have problems. !! It's one of my concerns too especially as I have probably another 2+ years to wait and obviously getting older all the time! Maybe seek professional advice? Good luck !

I've been looking for a comparison site for rates where you can just put the amount in you want to transfer.  The sites I've looked at seem to require that you register to get a quote.

If you want to keep an eye on rates, you could download the XE currency app.  It will give you the mid-market rates (which are not available to personal customers); if you deduct about $1.25 from the rate shown, that will give you a good idea of what you would get from a currency dealer.  Most dealers will give rates around that mark.
