  1. I’ve just arrived back in the Uk on an already planned trip for my stepdaughter’s wedding. The letter from Immi granting my visa was already in my email in box when I landed. Hip hip hurrah, all finally sorted without problems! Many many thanks again and again to everyone who has supported and helped me along the way. This forum really did give the tips, the reassurances and the emotional support necessary to make the whole process actually very simple. The main thing it also gave me was that message of patience. i know I should now update my signature to say visa granted but my jet lagged brain can’t remember how to do it! I’ve always found that bit difficult to find. Sorry. Good luck and patience to all those still waiting.
  2. Many thanks both for your wishes and also for the congratulations and good wishes from others. It really does feel fantastic when it all finally comes together.
  3. There seems to be suddenly massive visa progress for many members of this forum. Just wondering whether there could be a link to the Coronavirus? I seem to recall that the majority of parent visa applicants are Chinese and suspect that their applications are currently on hold. Every cloud has a silver lining, for someone, somewhere . Incidentally it is pouring down here in Brisbane and everyone is so happy. After the drought and the bush fires such downpours are a total blessing. Trouble is that my sister is due to arrive from the UK on Saturday so sadly her winter holiday to the Sunshine state isn’t going to be at all what was expected. She’s only here for a week, before leaving for Tasmania and I gather it’s just going to be rain and storms all week. ️🌧️. Ah well, “cant win em all”!
  4. Hurrah! Just been told to make arrangements to leave the country (specifically not via China!!) and my visa will then be granted. I paid the 2nd VAC on 28th January. It fits totally perfectly with my already planned visit to the UK for my stepdaughter’s wedding. I really do feel so lucky and it will be brilliant to finally say that my official place of residence is Australia. I can’t thank contributors to this forum enough for all the advice and support, practical and emotional, which they have given throughout this 4year plus process. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Good luck to all those who are still waiting. It’s very much a case of playing the patience game and ultimately your time will also come round
  5. Yoo Hoo, I have been asked to pay the second vac! I’ve had a delay getting birth certificates from my stepdaughters and contacted Immi to explain. At the same time I admitted to being confused as to why they needed these, but confirmed I would send them as soon as I had them. They now say they don’t need them after all! So, all looking extremely good for everything fitting in with my planned return to the UK in February. I have been so lucky the way things have worked out.
  6. Happy New Year everyone! Some info for those who may, like me, have step children, even though they are very adult and certainly not dependents. They are the daughters of my late husband and I was contacted by Immi just before Christmas to submit full birth certificates for them. I have to admit to not being able to understand the reasoning for this request, particularly since even if they were included I would still meet the balance of family test. Thankfully it’s not an issue as I am on good terms with both of my stepdaughters so I will able’ to submit this info once the Christmas festivities (and house move for one of them) are over and they have time to find and then to send scans of their certificates to me. I’m hoping it will all work to my advantage in terms of delaying the granting of my visa to tie in with my already planned trip to the UK on 20th Feb!
  7. Thanks Kath. Merry Christmas to you too, and of course to everyone else on this wonderful forum.
  8. I managed to contact nyorksgrannie by private message as she has been through this. Apparently if you are in Australia when the email is received, requesting payment of 2nd VAC, Immi give just 7 days to arrange exit flights ( though 28 days to actually leave). Seems crazy when you think of the 4 year lead up!! Ah well, it is what it is, but I just hope that they now delay because I would really prefer not to have to leave the country during the Christmas school holidays! Fingers crossed ...... am I just being too optimistic? Have a great Christmas everyone and many thanks for all the invaluable help, information and support. This process would have been an incredibly lonely one without this blog to keep tapping into and without all the support it has given.
  9. Thanks Linda both for the info and the good luck wishes. Great news that you now have your visa sorted. Congratulations! Enjoy your new life in Australia.
  10. Excellent, totally excellent. I am so very very pleased for you, particularly because of all the problems and stress you have gone through to get here. It must be the best Christmas’ present ever!
  11. Thanks. Now you have said that you think I they only give 28 days to leave I really don’t want to hear anything yet. It would be such a pain if I have to organise an exit and re- entry in January, particularly since that is in peak school holidays! Can anyone else confirm the 28 days please? Have a great Christmas yourself as well. Your best Christmas present has arrived early. It must be so wonderful to have your visa finally sorted. It seems that our lives go on semi hold while we are waiting, waiting, waiting, doesn’t it?
  12. Sill waiting for my request to pay 2nd Vac . Should hopefully come anytime now though. On the form80 , where it asked if I already had any plans to leave Australia, did give dates in February when I have a trip to the UK booked. Maybe they rightly are just thinking there is no rush ?!
  13. I also had a French PCC and I recently had it translated, as required. There was info on the letter I had received from Immi which directed me to accredited translators, I requested various quotes then accepted the one which cost the least. It didn’t cost much at all. I scanned the original (photo would do), emailed it through to the translator and had the translation done in 24 hours, stamped and signed by the translator who stated her qualifications. It was returned to me as a scanned copy which I was then able to forward direct to Immi. The original signed translation was sent on to me by post. Actually it was all surprisingly very easy.
  14. Excellent, congratulations! You must be feeling an enormous rush of relief. We all feel so pleased for you particularly because we appreciate the long, nightmare experience you have been through.
  15. AOS acceptance letter now received from Centrelink saying they will forward the acceptance to Immi. I think this should be the last stage of the wait, though heaven knows how long it will take. There don’t seem to have been any reports of visa awards lately, albeit lots of lead up activity. I don’t know what is going on with Immi. But hoping they will start approving visas soon and that this blog will be full of good news!
  16. Just to update on the timeline. Details on my signature. All now done and waiting for final acceptance from Immi. There seem to have been very few actual visas allocated lately, albeit lots of activity on all that is required to lead up to this.
  17. Hi Karen, my son did mine and said the code was Q769. Hope this helps
  18. I suggest you read very carefully exactly what you are required to do and follow it by the letter. For a start, the police check you will require is from the Federal police, not the state police, and this is clearly specified in the letter and instructions you will have received from Immi. Some times you are given options, eg for paper document submissions or on-line submissions and without going back to recheck my own letter I cannot remember exactly what options were given. This is maybe another example of struggling a bit with the language. The whole process is so full of possibilities for getting it wrong. For this reason I would really advise folks to do their application through an agent if they do not feel fully comfortable with the language, with form filling or computer systems which you will be required to use. Let the agent do the work for you and let them navigate through the problematic areas. That is what you pay them for, to do it for you and to get it right.
  19. Dont worry. My own experience and that of other contributors to this blog is that you just need to ignore that estimated completion date as in reality it takes 6 to 8 weeks more than estimated
  20. A bit more on the AOS payment. My son went into Commonwealth bank yesterday to make the payment. It took a good 30 minutes to set up the bond for the bank guarantee and he was fortunate because the bank employee who dealt with it used to work in a bank next to a Centrelink office. She had dealt with many previous applicants, knew what she was doing and was very particular about making sure it was right. I’m sure it would have taken longer otherwise. My son then uploaded the bank guarantee, account documents and original letter without problems. Hopefully it will go through smoothly. Have to say though that the whole process could, very readily, throw anyone who is not totally proficient in English. The original letter from Centrelink needs careful reading, it’s a complicated process and everything has to be done to the letter. Also another thing to be noted is that there is an additional 150$ Administration charge by the bank for setting up the bond in the first place.
  21. Many thanks, both for the good luck wishes and the advice. This forum really is great for that. It’s sad when the content seems to deteriorate and become personal, but I suspect that is a reflection of people’s stress and I know some people are finding it really hard,
  22. Also hoping that everyone will be safe with the Bush fires raging. It must be such a worry, particularly if you are far away, and is certainly very stressful for those who are in the thick of it. On a more positive note, particularly given the problems which so many people have been experiencing with the AOS, I can report that the one my son lodged for me seems to have gone through totally smoothly. For those who want to know the detail of how it works, here it is : Back in August I received the request from Immi by email to ask my assurer to do the application. He did it straight away on line via the My Gov account and said it was straightforward and quick to do. He had to go into Centre Link to verify his identity and fully lodge the application. He was given a numbered receipt identifying it had been successfully lodged and with an estimated completion date of 26th September. Thankfully this forum had already warned me that it would take much longer and to take no notice of the date! Then on 6th Nov he received a message from Centre Link saying he would receive a call from them that afternoon, that it would be an unrecognised number and he needed to answer it! When he did they explained that everything was going through OK and that he would receive a letter confirming the acceptance of his AOS within the week, again via his My Gov account. They explained what he would then need to do in terms of paying the bond. He had a message yesterday saying there was a letter in his My Gov account, which there was, and he now has to go into the Commonwealth Bank to lodge the £10000 for the bond which acts as a guarantee. So far so good, thankfully. I was beginning to think that all AOS applications were proving to be problematic.
