  1. sorry, I welcomed you as September lodgers when I should have said August, which makes you another month ahead of me already!!!
  2. Hi Phil, just an issue about what appears to be a very attractive 10%holding tax. If I have understood it correctly, any interest earned overseas by a Uk tax resident is also liable for uk tax. I think that the uk then takes into account the 10% already paid in Australia as the two countries have a tax treaty. This needs checking and I've no idea how it would work for residents of other countries. Also once resident in Australia there are two negatives as the tax free allowance is lower than the uk and the higher rate of tax comes into play at a lower income threshold.
  3. Excellent -Good to have September lodgers on our list! Welcome to the 2015'ers waiting room.
  4. Hi Ian I think this assumption is right. I got the e651 (and it was free and issued in a couple of days)for when I went over in November. I just thought it at least gave me the option to come and go as much as I wished over the next 12 months. I have a brother in Nz so if I want to be in Oz for more than 3 months I can just pop over to see him at the end of any 3 month stay. I believe the e600 has a no further stay clause, which the 651 doesn't.
  5. Congratulations Joyron and best of luck with the house sale!
  6. It's great to be getting contact from other 2015 "lodgers"! Good luck to you/us all. As Wishfull said, we now just need to find folks with September and October lodgement dates. Anyone out there?
  7. Hi Wishfull, good to know that there are others out there with dates not too dissimilar to mine. Yes, there are some great tips on this forum so I need to start following it very closely. At least when your extra requests start coming through then I know that mine should follow about a month later.
  8. Many thanks for your reply Phil, that was really useful. I suppose I'm just panicking a bit at the thought that it all seems to come together very quickly once it really starts to roll. I'm very reluctant to do anything about selling up until I eventually get a definite YES, just in case ultimately the visa isn't granted. Who knows, health can change so quickly, visa rules change etc etc. Sorry to introduce potential negatives but these come from direct experience. Still, it's good to know that even if ultimately I haven't got everything sorted out by the time the visa comes through then I still have quite a lot of leeway to complete things. In the meantime I'm getting on well with the de junking!!! By the way, how do I get the key info about lodgement date etc showing at the bottom of my posts? I've already added them to my profile.
  9. Hi everyone. Looking through all the posts it seems that most of the "posters" are well on the way to having their visas granted and finally moving. Well done! I only lodged my 143 application in December 15 so clearly have a long wait ahead. There must be lots more parents out there in the same situation so it would be good to make contact so that we can provide mutual support as has so evidently been the case for those of you who already have this experience of being in the waiting room for what must seem to be an eternity. Can someone answer a couple of questions for me please? 1) If I happen to be in Australia on Holiday when meds are requested then can I have them done there? Would that end up being a lot more expensive or not? 2) When I finally am (hopefully) granted my 143 visa, then if I came to Australia for say a couple of months to activate it then returned to the UK to finish sorting out things (such as house sale) here, then where would I be "officially" resident, for example in terms of health care and tax. Thank you in advance for any replies. It really is brilliant to have this sort of forum.
  10. Hello Geordie Girl Just think of the positives that you now have and not the negatives. There will be lots, you just need to really focus on them. Fact is that you are here now so live for this now and not for what you have lost. This isn't just empty talk from someone who has never experienced it. I previously lived in France with my husband but we returned to the UK last year when he was ill. He then died and I no longer had either husband or the lovely home, friends and life which I had previously. There are always positives though - it was exciting to have a window cleaner, a bus stop at the end of the road, a local pub and a fish and chip shop!! Stick with it and tell yourselves "this is where we are", it will help you to get on with it and to settle in. It really is very early days for all of you, being ill won't have helped and it will all work out eventually. As my children are in Australia I am now looking to move out there but there will definitely be things here that I will miss and yearn for - including family and friends who I will leave behind and cold, frosty mornings. Big hug - to hopefully help you start to feel better.
  11. Oh no! This is the first have heard of form 80 and it sounds a nightmare. I have only just lodged my 143 application but also think I need to download and start the form 80 now!! Thanks for the info. Angela
  12. Many thanks for your reply Joyron. It's fabulous to be able to get ready responses to questions and I am starting to really appreciate this forum. Like you I will be spending my waiting time de cluttering and sorting out, which isn't an easy job. Hope you don't have to wait too long for your assessment to start. Will keep an interested eye on how and when things proceed for you.
  13. Yes, I can identify with wanting to avoid the interim stress of a rental property. Once medicals are done are you actually told that all is ok or not? Do you have to actually wait for the final word before it is safe to go ahead and sell up? Also a question: does allocation of a temporary ie173 CPV take just as long to process as a permanent 143 CPV? Anyway, hope you don't have to wait much longer until you can actually sell up and move. Will keep an interested eye on your developments. Good luck!
  14. Thanks for all that really useful information and good to know that it just suddenly comes together without masses of problems, delays and administrative issues once you have finally arrived. Best of luck with all the settling in. I will also be going to Brisbane but have yet to lodge my visa. I'm flying out on Friday and spending Christmas there so will lodge my CPv application while I am there as I didn't want to risk it in the post from the uk. It will be interesting to hear how you get on with clubs, activities and making new friends as that aspect has been worrying me a bit. I have however found out that there is an over 50s club in Adelaide street with a whole range of interesting activities which take place every weekday morning. Will probably call in and check it out when I am over.
  15. Many thanks for the encouragement! Have you any idea at all on your timescale and the time between getting a final decision and actually making the move? I don't know when to look at putting the house up for sale. I don't want to sell up early and have to move early into rental here because there is always a doubt about whether all will work out anyway, particularly given how strict they are on medial health! My husband had cancer which just came quickly from nowhere so, since none of us know "what is round the corner" an actual move is so dependent on that final decision. Would hate to give up my home here then find that in the end I wasn't accepted anyway! Sorry, I take on board the "think positive" but I'm also trying to be realistic.
  16. Now that 2010 timescale scares me as I'm about to lodge my CPV next week. I actually feel happier with the thought of 18 months to 2 years to give me time to get my head round everything. Both my children and my 3 grandchildren are in Oz and my husband died earlier this year which is why I am now planning to move. There seem to be so many issues to sort out though, money, pensions, medical cover, housing, to say nothing of the actual move! Then last week I was worrying because I would be totally starting again in terms of making friends, becoming involved in new activities. When I move I know that I want to be close to but totally independent of my children for my sake (and theirs!). This thread will be great for being able to chat to people who will be facing the same issues, so thank you for setting it up.
  17. Many thanks to everyone for the responses to my query about the contributory parent visa versus the contributory aged parent visa. It was so reassuring to feel no longer alone with all the issues and to know there is a tremendous community out there willing to help and advise. Many many thanks Poms in Oz friends!! I think I'm actually just going to go with lodging my contributory parent visa application in the next week and the waiting time will give me space to get my head round the rest.
  18. Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum but it's really good to now have somewhere where I can ask questions. I'm looking at moving from the UK to Oz where both my children and my 3 grandchildren are. Really wanting some advice on whether there is any difference other than applicant age requirement between the Contributory parent visa and the contributory aged parent visa. Just wondering whether I should wait here in the UK until I am 65. However if there is no real advantage in waiting then maybe I should just go for it now. If there is a substantial advantage then I could just take long holidays in Oz in the meantime and therefore give myself a longer period to get used to the idea.
