I find it a little strange (although I’m not complaining) that we appear to be the only forum members to be asked for medicals at this time. Your timeline is almost identical to ours, so I’m surprised you haven’t heard something yet.

They are also allowed us 28 days (I heard last year they allowed 70 days). I think they will understand if you may need an extension because of medical appt. Hopefully everything is back to normal soon.

Northern Visa Medicals (Manchester) is now open again for medical exams. So we should now be able to keep within the 28 days.

All Contributory Parent visa applications lodged before 1 June 2018 have been given a queue date of the application lodgement date and applications lodged on or after 1 June 2018 will be assessed and given a queue date when it meets the initial visa criteria.

Can you please share what this "initial visa criteria" involve?

Do we have to do anything? Do they ask for any documents? Is it automatic?

If it only involves them having an initial look at the application, how is this then different from the initial "acknowledgment" they provide soon after submitting the application - I could be wrong, but rightly or wrongly, I was under the impression they check the submitted application before "acknowledgment"?

My 143 application was submitted in Dec 2018 - I have not received any queue date/place yet - which I think is consistent with many others also awaiting a queue place.

The "cap" refers to the number of visas to be granted annually.

Also, just confirming: there is 1 visa per 1 person, e.g. a successful 143 outcome to an applicant and a dependent would count as 2 visas, not 1. RIght?

My mother used to get 1 year multiple entry visas with very little conditions (only No Work, No Study). Now she received a 3 year visa with a whole lot of conditions attached.

Can I ask what conditions they attached to your parents 1 year visa?

Parent Visas – Processing Times and Coronavirus UPDATE

Processing Times for Parent Visas

The Department of Home Affairs do not provide processing times for Contributory Parent, Contributory Aged Parent and Aged Parent visa applications. This is because applications for these visas are subject to capping and queuing.

Capping means that a limited number of visas are granted each Migration Program year. Once this number is reached, no more visas will be granted until the new year commences on 1^st July. In 2019-20, Migration program planning levels saw 7,371 parent visas available.

The queue order is fixed, with no application given priority ahead of another application.

The Department of Home Affairs provide a queue date which shows the current assessment dates for each visa. The Parent Visa Centre are currently assessing offshore applicants (subclass 143 and 173) lodged up to and including February 2016, and onshore applicants (subclass 864 and 884) lodged up to January 2017.

The Department of Home Affairs have advised that Onshore Contributory Parent visas lodged from January 2017 onwards are likely to take longer to process while the Parent Visa Centre action offshore Contributory Parent (CA143 and TU173) applications to bring the dates back to parity.

You can check the latest queue date on the Department of Home Affairs website.

Parent visa processing amid Coronavirus

The Parent Visa Centre have advised that “the processing of visa applications is continuing, however finalisation of many Parent Visa applications will be put on temporary hold. The situation will be reviewed in late May 2020, and further extension/s will be provided if necessary.

As soon as we have advice that restrictions at our Border have been returned to more normal arrangements, the Department will update information on the web site.”

Can someone clarify that when entering Australia (143 visa holder) and have to self isolate for 2 weeks, who foots the bill, I’m sure I read on here that we have to pay the bill (2,500dollars), but when I google it says the Australian government foots the bill.

The government foots the bill. Smart traveler Au states you will not incur any costs related to the quarantine.

Not self isolation when entering from overseas but enforced quarantine.  You will be escorted from the airport to a hotel set up specifically for the purpose.  Gov currently footing the bill. If you then travel interstate you are currently required to self quarantine for two weeks in your own accommodation. 
Things do change and not all states have the same rules so check on gov and state websites for up to date info, not social media or news feeds.

Anyone know which airlines offer extra baggage weight when entering Australia for the first time on your Permanent Resident Visa. I know Singapore Airlines allow you an extra 10 kilos when flying from Manchester or Heathrow. Unfortunately they are not allowing transit through Singapore. Thanks for any info. Shelagh

Congratulations! Just looking at your timeline,173 granted in Jan this year and 143 applied for in March (very speedy). Can I ask if you moved to Australia before submitting the application for your 143 visa? or did you apply offshore?

According to 7news Australia it’s likely to be December 15th this year before international travel will be reintroduced but only for countries considered “Safe” - not sure how that affects UK as we have had largest numbers of deaths In Europe sadly

Hi, i would imagine if they take your money, they will give you a receipt.

Don't hold your breath, immi department stopped issuing 2nd vac when the boarder was closed. We shall hear some good news when everything resume

I’ve just seen on another site that says someone came in on a tourist visa and applied onshore for 143 which  I know you can do. However the poster then said that a bridging visa was granted so that the parent could stay in Australia until visa is granted!! . I wasn’t aware of this as I thought no bridging visas were given on a 143 but when I suggested it was perhaps 864  or 804 visa instead I was told it was definitely a 143 
 

Does anyone know any differently about any changes in this area as it could have a massive impact if 143 applicants could get a bridging visa to be with their families instead of waiting offshore. TIA

As below, the test email auto response does not mention a date when they will review the current situation. Last email said they will review end of May.
