  1. Depends if you are bringing a container and they will fit in without extra space. Tbh I would bring them if you have space, they will be useful in a rental then buy new when you move somewhere more permanent (fridge space can vary a lot). A second fridge in the shed/garage is often useful anyway. If you buy in the UK the guarantees will most likely not transfer and you will need adapters or change the plugs. White goods are not more expensive here unless you don’t bother to shop around. Oh and if buying several items at once ask for a discount or at the very least free delivery/install. I can heartily recommend appliances online, they deliver the next day unpack, take old goods and all packaging and are still very good value.

    Medicare card

And if you get “computer says no”. Try again. I tried 5 times to get a mobile phone issue sorted…. I could have kissed the last guy I spoke to who said “right I can see this has been going on for a while…..shall we just apply some common sense and get it sorted!”

    Medicare card

I thought online was supposed to be faster! Before this was a thing we just went into an office and applied they gave us a number to use before the card arrived. How can they justify 4 months! Complain to your local MP
  4. No. Only if you have spent significant time in another country since getting PR the Aus police check is done for you so you don’t need to apply for that yourself. We had visited UK and other countries on holiday since getting our PR but did not require police checks for citizenship.
  5. Regarding the isa. They are not tax free in Australia so you will pay tax to the ATO on the interest and on any gains when cashing in any shares.
  6. Just to say that even state schools are not free here. Unlike the UK there are admin fees, often expensive uniforms and you are expected to provide books and equipment. Not a fortune but worth knowing, most school websites will give lots of info. Ours briefly went to a Lutheran school in SA, we are Catholic but it was a better school..bigger with more facilities. Similar to the Catholic sector it had much lower fees than private but similar facilities and a good holistic education without ramming religion home. Some of the top private schools here do produce a lot of entitled bullies, although that is down to the culture of the school and the parents.
  7. With an Australian address and no tfn provided they will deduct the tax as you stated but only on any interest earned. when we moved back to UK for a few years we simply provided the UK address and contacts and kept the bank account using internet banking. The withholding tax is less but I can’t remember exactly what and as long as that is your only Australian income you do not need to file a tax return. The interest and any tax deduction should be declared on a Uk tax return and any overpay will be refunded. Unless you have tens of thousands of dollars still in a savings account you are not going to be talking a huge amount of interest though. If you do return to Aus make sure the bank has your tfn then it doesn’t deduct interest at source. Why are you reluctant to provide your correct address? Who’s address are you using in Australia? Equally your tfn? our bank Westpac had no issue with our overseas address and sent replacement cards etc, although we stopped paper statements!
  8. It sure is for everything medical, including prescriptions. So many people are reluctant to do this and then moan about the cost. Healthy (pardon the pun) competition won’t thrive whilst prices are not upfront and people don’t ask! Well done!
  9. It isn’t the doctor who did the exam that will request further tests. They send a report to immigration and if there are any questions they refer it to a special medical panel for review. They will either pass it or ask for further information. All you can do is wait, the information the Bupa doctor wrote may be enough info to pass.
  10. This means they have them. They will either be passed or referred to a medical panel who may or may not require further reports. Nothing you can do now but await the result.
  11. What visa are you applying for? If it is an independent PR vis then picking the best occupation both in fit and ease of assessment is the key. Once you have the visa you can do whatever job you want. Don’t get hung up on status or titles it may well be easier to go for an executive role.
  12. As long as you provide evidence for all name changes they can work it out. You won’t be the first to have different names on ID. They just need proof you are the same person! When you do replace your passport then Simply update your application.
  13. No refunds. If you are all healthy with no specific issues you shouldn’t have a problem with medicals. Just make sure you have all the required documents before you submit your EOI, skill assessment, language tests etc . It is an expensive process, that is why people pay for an agent to help to ensure they get it right!
  14. I second Maloolaba over Caloundra.
  15. Ha! My mates husband just got hearing aids. He has now told her she speaks too loudly, makes too much noise cooking and her clothes rustle! She said “if you see him walking funny you’ll know where I’ve shoved them”
  16. Costco will put new lenses in frames too. I got some multi focal, transition lenses put into a pair of rayban sunglasses I had. Was cheaper than spec savers too!
  17. The salary will depend where you are moving from in UK and where you are going in Australia. Anything from 2.2 to 2.6 times UK salary in dollars should give you roughly the same standard of living (the exchange rate varies but wages don’t follow it!). The cost of housing is the biggie. So the $130 looks fair, if you can get the job with no Australian experience Many private schools do give concessions to staff but not all. Some universities do as well. You will need to work out your own finances as lifestyles differ. How much does it cost you to maintain your current life, what are your must haves etc………
  18. As above. But get used to asking the cost and shopping around, even for prescriptions as there is no fixed cost. Many GPs don’t charge a gap for children or other concession holders but is is now rare to get a free consult as an adult. I do find that compared to the UK the gap is worth it for a 15 minute consultation with a less stressed doctor!
  19. Sadly some people have to be asked to help. Next time say your are doing a buffet and ask everyone to bring food. You shouldn’t need to do it all, nor pay for it either!
  20. A JP wouldn’t do it as they have to say they have known you for at least 12 months. This doesn’t have to be a close buddy but someone who has known you even in a professional capacity who is on the list. We used a friend who is a Physio but our neighbour could have done it as he is a solicitor.
  21. Answer no and get the application in. You can do the police checks and medicals later. Don’t delay the application for this.
  22. Are you dealing in computers and software or health practice management? There could be other job titles that will suit you.
  23. No you can’t renew your Uk license if you are not resident in the UK. it seems UK insurance companies don’t like foreign drivers nowadays. You could speak to your mums insurance to see what they can do but someone posted a while back this was no longer possible for them. Try Virtuo car rental. All on line with an app. We used it last time we were in the UK and it was loads cheaper than even off airport car hire from a local company. They were fine with overseas licence. But you need to register with them ahead of time.
  24. Yup freight charges have gone up again due to attacks in the Red Sea. The main container ships are now having to take massive detours, taking much longer and therefore costing more. Destination charges will vary on where you are shipping to.
  25. It is organic matter they are bothered about paint stains are not an issue if otherwise cleaned.
