    house moving firm in melbourne

Hi we are due to move at the end of the month. more packing and moving while trying to work is going to be a nightmare since the new place is over an hours drive away from where we are. anyone ever used a removal firm to do a local move? If so, whos recommended?
  2. Hi All, I was unable to find any page dedicated for a discussion about what to do after we receive visa 489/190 for SA. This page will be dedicated to all the queries related to, "what next once visa is granted". I recently received my visa sponsored by South Australia post which, I am planning to move to Adelaide with my wife around June end. As I am going to start my journey, I am really glad that I found this page which can help this transition be smooth. As we all know, it's a big risk to leave a good existing job and move to a new country and start everything from scratch which is why, I am a little worried/exited/anxious about how should I plan from here and all of you who are going to reply will play a big role in my upcoming decisions. Just a little bit about myself: I am a Tech-Lead (AWS | Azure | Web (Apache|NGINX) | Python scripting | DevOps) with 7+ years of experience with an IT company. For now, I would really appreciate if someone can guide me with below questions: 1. What is the ground reality of job situation in Adelaide for above skill set? 2. Some of you might know that CV/Resume in India and Australia are very different and I have heard that companies in Australia will first filter the resume (ATS powered algorithms) based on the keyword and it's quite difficult even to get an interview by stuffing your resume with the keywords mentioned in the job description; so what is the best way to make my resume to at least secure an interview, in short, any assistance will be heartily appreciated. 3. I need to rent an apartment in Adelaide and I have heard that we need to have some points (100 points is I know by now) to rent an apartment, so how do I manage to get them? 4. What are the documents I need to get a rented apartment apart from points? 5. What are the best websites/options to search a rented apartment in South Australia(specifically Adelaide)? 6. I will consider my self lucky if an IT person is reading my post and can forward my resume to their HR as I have heard contacts or reference are the best ways to secure an interview. In this case it would really be nice if you could drop me an email: prashu.swaroop@gmail.com Thank you in advance for your time:)

    103 parent visa time allowed

Can anyone tell me how long you are allowed from the grant of your visa to when you have to be permanently living in Oz. I lodged my visa in 2010 and queue numbers seem to be moving now.

    Hi everyone!

If you are thinking of upgrading your house all the mess and hard work comes to mind. You can think of ways to avoid the tedious job. If your house is already built and you want to live in the same house but it has become old or wrecked, you can consider a renovation. Some people develop a special love for their home and emotional attachment with it due to the time span spent living in it. They find hard to shift to a new house and leave the current one due to any reason; if the reason is because of any damage than it can be solved by renovating it. JDL Construction - Home renovations Brisbane provides comprehensive remodeling of domestic homes.

    Perth possibilities (compared to Melbourne)

Hi all I've recently been offered a very attractive job in Perth, but have a few queries which I would really like some answers to, to help me decide whether to move (again) and if so, help negotiate a decent package: 1) How much more expensive is Perth to Melbourne. My basic internet enquiries suggest around 10% - does this sound right? 2) What is the job/housing market like in Perth. With the apparent end of the mining boom, are Perth properties a good investment and are jobs still in high demand or in decline? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Paul

    Brisbane property market

Hi Everyone, My family and I are on the verge of deciding to move from the UK to Brisbane. We're hoping to live in one of the family friendly suburbs not too far from the city. Can anyone give any advice on the property market? Is it changing much? Are prices going up? Staying flat? Also, is there a good time during the year to buy? We're trying to work out when to move and I'd like to try to buy at the best time. Thanks is in advance for any advice. Mark

  8. Hey, Me and my friend start our travels October 2nd to Sydney to hopefully stay there for christmas and new years. Any advise on how long to stay in a hostel for and any recommendations would be great, iv seen on google, bounce? Initially we were thinking a week in the hostel as we are wanting to make friends that we can have a house share with. Anyone who has done this and has any advise on this is greatly appreciated Also how much money are people taking to start with, we are wanting to work but as a starting point would £2,500 be enough? Feeling a little clueless Thanks, Jade!
  9. Is it possible to get a UK mortgage whilst living and earning in Australia?? I'm thinking that we could buy somewhere just before we move back so that we've got somewhere to move in to on our return or rent out until we get back...

Time taken to sell house in the UK

Hi folks :-) Please excuse me if this question has already been asked recently. I have done a search and nothing relevant appeared hence the new thread. We are looking at emigrating in a couple of years (OH is from Brisbane) to live with family. After researching a little it would seem opinion varies on when to put the house on the market when selling to emigrate. We live in a terraced house in Yorkshire and with the market being a bit more fluid recently up t'north I hope it won't take long to sell, when the time comes. We think that first time buyers and landlords will be the main interest. My main question is what area do you live and how long before you planned to leave did you put the house on the market and how quickly did it sell? Do you have any tips for me? I am starting renovations soon (I am a big planner!) as it's quite an old house but mainly just decor and replacing flooring in the works. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

    House prices

Posting this just out of interest to see how the tables turned between the two countries. Avarage house price in the UK is 165,659 (source: houseprices.uk.net) Avarage house price in Perth (I can only speak for Perth as I live here, dont know other cities) is $500,000. Using the current exchange rate of 1.56, 165,659 pounds is $258,428 aussie dollars, which would get me nothing here in Perth. It is hard to find any decent house for sale under $400,000.
  14. This is a long shot.... .I'm a Brit living close to the Northern Beaches. I've sponsored my mother to come and live in Aus. Rather than sell her property in London, she's been thinking that a long term house swap might be the way to go. Is there any one out there that might be interested in a swap for a 12 - 24 month period? She has nice 3 bed house outskirts of London/ Essex which is a 30 minute commute on the Central Line to City. She would like to swap for a house / appartment around the northern beaches, would be travelling alone and happy to look after any pets
  15. RP Data latest Spring Buyer’s Guide was released this week, providing an overview of key housing market statistics for every suburb that has recorded at least ten house or units sales over the past year nationally. The full report including suburb and council level tables is available for download at www.myrp.com.au/springbuyersguide. One of the interesting statistics that flows from the Guide is the percentage of suburbs across each capital city that might be considered affordable. The maps below highlight the suburbs with a median house or unit value under $300,000 and $500,000. The trends come as no surprise; it is typically the outer fringe suburbs where the most affordable housing can be found. What is a little surprising is the proportion of suburbs across each capital city where the median value of a house is less than $300,000 or $500,000. While Australia’s most affordable capital city, Hobart, shows the highest proportion (41.3% of all suburbs have median house value under $300,000), it is Brisbane that has the second highest proportion at 15.2% followed by Adelaide at 14.4%. The depth and diversity of Brisbane suburbs for affordable housing is quite remarkable considering this is the nation’s third largest capital city. The vast majority (60% or 30 individual suburbs) of these affordable suburbs can be found within the Ipswich council region which is west of the Brisbane local government area. 26% (13 suburbs) of the most affordable Brisbane suburbs are located within the Logan council region while only 3 each are in the Redland and Moreton council regions and just one (Inala) is located within the Brisbane council area. Another surprise is that the Melbourne metro area has a slightly lower proportion of very affordable suburbs (ie <$300,000 median house value) than Sydney. Only 2.0% of Melbourne suburbs have a median house value below $300,000 while Sydney has recorded 2.5% of suburbs with a median house value lower than $300,000. Perth is even lower at just 1.1% demonstrating a severe lack of depth in the very affordable housing market. There is not a single suburb across Canberra where the median house value is less than $300,000. The maps below show the geography of affordability across the capital cities and of course, the full Spring Buyer’s Guide which is available to download has great deal more detail for every suburb around the nation.
  16. Hi I am planning to return to the UK for 6 weeks between mid November and the end of December. Given that I will be retaining my rental property in this time I am planning to rent it out while it is empty. Has anyone got any advice/gotchas for doing this? The property is in Port Melbourne so being near the beach and the CBD I would think it is pretty desirable. I am planning to advertise on gum tree - if anyone has any other sites they recommend please let me know. Thanks in advance. J
  17. Hi Guys, AE just rang to say we have had an offer for our house at 10% lower than the asking price...............thats 50K.............we said NO CHANCE. Apprently there are AE going around telling there clients that if all house sellers drop buy 10% then the houseing market will start up again...............i bet it bloody well will...........but we are not giving our house away, i just want to scream:arghh:. Anyway on the positive side we have viewer on Monday (his second visit) so fingers crossed he will make a decent offer. Right thats enough from me going back outside to top up the tan:wubclub:
  18. Hi, I am breaking lease on my 4 x 2 house in Secret Harbour, WA on 2nd August 2013. Its in a nice location right by Comet Bay Primary School, which has a lovely reputation. If you are interested in the details, please let me know. Thanks!!
  19. Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place.. but it is a bit of a dilemma.. Hopefully someone on here can point us in the right direction. we came out here in 2008 and settled in Yanchep, About 1hr north of Perth. When we came over we were unable to sell the house as the market in the UK had crashed. We had to rent it out and hope that things improved. 5 years later and our neighbour in the UK wants to buy it and knock through! Cool. So we got a buyer.. now for the problem. My father is wiling to do all the leg work with regards the selling of the house as we are doing it privately. However we need to grant him power of attorney. Can we do this from over here? And if so, how? I've looked online and cant seem to find much out. Any guidance on this would be muchly appreciated.
  20. Hello everyone. I am just wondering if anyone would mind sharing the approx shipping they have paid or been quoted. (inc. insurance) The removal companies I have looked at won't come out to give quotations untill we are closer to our move date so just hoping to get a bit of an idea off those who have experience in this. We have considered not sending anything over at all and starting afresh over there but now thinking there are a few bits that we would like to keep. I expect we will only need a shared container. I have heard people mention on here 'half container' quotes. Has anybody had an even smaller share of a container? Hope to hear from you... XXX
  21. Hello all, Well we are booked in for the big move, I'm moving in May (and will be working in Camberwell) and my husband is coming over soon after. We are lucky in that we have family to stay with for the first couple of months while we get ourselves sorted and the other half finds work. I want to pick your brains about where to live (and if it is doable in our budget): Option 1 Ideally we would like to live around Carlton area - central but not right in the CBD, with me traveling east (and we may be getting a housemate that works in the west) we would be looking for a townhouse or something similar for 3 adults. We have a dog (cocker spaniel) in NZ who will be staying with family until we can find a house - how hard is it to rent with pets? We would be looking at around $400-450. He doesn't need a lot of room (we have a small townhouse in NZ and he is fine) - but I'm more concerned with how hard it might be to secure a rental with a dog? Option 2 If we can't arrange this my husband and are are thinking we go north east/east/south east so we could find somewhere under $400 where we could definitely have the dog. This would just be my husband and I and he will most likely be commuting into the CBD on public transport so limiting the commute to under an hour each way is important. Thanks in advance
  22. Hi We are looking to move to Sydney in a few months. We are looking to do a house swap in a Sydney location with our house in London. Can anyone suggest anywhere we could advertise this targeting people who live in Sydney area. We have tried a few house swap websites but they are mainly for short term holidays and we would like to swap long term, ideally for a year or so. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Called Australia House

Hi Everyone Just to let you know I phoned Australia House today and the meds have been finalised!! Anyone who knows about my condition is probably as shocked as I am. The light at the end of the tunnel is suddenly a lot brighter and scarier now:wideeyed: Maria
  24. Help my family and I are arriving in Melbourne on the 26th of January on Australia Day. The accommodation that we had planned has just fallen through. We are a family of 3 and in desperate need to find a roof over our heads. At the moment neither my wife and I have jobs and we are travelling with a 15 month son. Does anyone know of a two bed property for rent either at the end of this month or next??? Or does anyone know of a decent serviced apartment on the cheap that they can recommend???? Thank you in advance for your help!!!!!!!!!
  25. We are moving back to the Perth area at the beginning of March so we will need somewhere to live, I thought I'd try here first before trawling through the agencies... We have no preference on actual location but somewhere quiet is a must. We both intend to work in the city so good access to the CBD would be an advantage We have 2 cars and a motorcycle so either a car port or a garage is needed We are both non smokers We have 2 cats Needs to be a house, fairly large as we have accumulated a lot of furniture including a rather large dining room table We are looking at a minimum 12 months rental So if you have, or know anyone who has something that you think might be suitable please contact me. Many thanks Peter
