Bridgeman
1)From what I understand, the 143 visa can be lodged from Aus but you wont be entitled to a bridging visa-Is that correct? Only reason being if we had to lodge it offshore, she has to leave the country, move flights etc-Too much of a hassle! Ie. It is fine to lodge in Australia..just no bridging visa...and she will be able to come back as a tourist whilst the visa is being processed. - See more at: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/77756-brand-new-pio-parents-visa-thread-688.html#sthash.J5gH1FHV.dpuf Your parents can physically be in Australia when you submit the visa, but there is no bridging visa and they will have to leave when their tourist visa runs out. They must be offshore when the visa is granted. 2)My mum has been here on an eletronic travel authority (601) but there is no visa number attached to it(I think-on her document there's no visa number). What should I put for that on the form as it asks for a visa number?? - See more at: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/77756-brand-new-pio-parents-visa-thread-688.html#sthash.J5gH1FHV.dpuf We just put tourist visa, electronic travel authority 601 3)I'm not an Australian citizen but PR.....Should I put country of residence as Australia or the country that I am a citizen of? I'm guessing Australia because it says residence and not citizenship. (I am working full time here) - See more at: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/77756-brand-new-pio-parents-visa-thread-688.html#sthash.J5gH1FHV.dpuf Yes, your country of residence is Australia I would think. Questions 4 and 5 - this just applies to anyone who is applying for the visa, ie your mother,
yuhadedee
173 CPV ha finally found it: Once all legislative requirements are met, you will be granted a temporary visa that is valid for a period of 2 years. This 2 year period commences: • from the date of visa grant for a Contributory Aged Parent (Class UU–Temporary) visa; and • from the initial entry date into Australia on a Contributory Parent (Class UT–Temporary) visa. The initial entry date into Australia is the date that you first arrived in Australia as the holder of a Contributory Parent (Class UT–Temporary) visa (see page 41 for more information on initial entry date). A temporary contributory parent category visa holder has access to Medicare and full work rights. It is important to note that the temporary contributory parent category visa cannot be extended or renewed. PAGE 41: Initial entry date to Australia If you are outside Australia when you are granted a parent visa, you will be required to make your first entry to Australia by a certain date. You will be told your initial entry date in the letter you receive from the department advising you of the grant of your parent visa. The purpose of this initial entry date is to ensure that persons migrate to Australia within a reasonable period of being granted a visa so that the planning levels for settler services for newly arrived migrants are sufficient. The date is usually tied to the earliest date of the validity periods of any health and character checks you had as part of the process of applying for a parent visa. Before your parent visa is granted, if you know that the date will not allow you a reasonable period for you to finalise your affairs and make the necessary arrangements to travel to Australia, you must advise the departmental office that is processing your parent visa application of your circumstances and consideration will be given to a later initial entry date. However, you may need to undergo new health or character checks before your visa can be granted. After your parent visa has been granted, an initial entry date cannot be changed and, unless exceptional and compelling circumstances can be proven, your visa may be cancelled. You would need to re-apply for a parent visa Hi Tabitha Where did you find this?? I was so confused yesterday on the same issue!!! see my thread: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/213042-urgent-cpv-173-holders-please-come.html Looks like i should just ignore the visa grant date and take the initial entry date as the start date. Do you know whats the length of the medicare card they will first grant you when you initially enter the country? Thanks
yuhadedee
Hi Fran, I just dug out the paperwork from our 173 visa and it says: "The visa provides for multiple entries to Australia and is valid for two years from the date of first entry". Hope this helps to clarify and also hope you're ok. Looking forward to seeing you again asap! Val xx Hi Val Is that what the old visa label says? If so, i might consider getting a label done to avoid confusion. These visa grant letters are very confusing at the moment.
yuhadedee
Ooh, now I'm confused. Just had a look at the DIAB website which says: (under How Long Your Visa Lasts) This visa lets you live in Australia for two years from the date it is granted http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/173.aspx Seems very unclear. I think they have made a mistake on their website. The Contributory Aged Parent visa is two years from the grant date not a normal CPV. I have reported the mistake and hopefully they will fix it soon. It is causing so much confusion!!

Guest geordie joe
Hi all you helpful folk. I'm looking to apply for a 143 visa, however I'm a little confused regarding the rule around being settled for 2 years. Is this from the date my son's permanent residency was granted which was recently, or from when he first moved to Oz which was 3 years ago. andalog
Hi Pri, We are not far behind you, our receipt was dated 6th Feb 2013, we haven't heard anything yet, all the necessary paperwork has been completed, health checks have been done too. So I will follow your path very closely. Regards.

Your son needs to prove 'settled'. My parents applied for their 173 when my brother had been here 2.5 years, the first 6 months on a WHV the next year on a 457 and the year before on PR. He showed that he'd bought a house, permanent job, had a dog, members of clubs and societies - everything you can think of to show that he wasn't going anywhere. They were granted their visa a couple of months ago.

Spurs no1 Don't worry! For the last few years people have been waiting about 2-3 years between the initial acknowledgement and the next stage - medicals and police clearance certificates. Provided those are OK you will eventually be allocated a queue date. As you probably know, new applications for the 804 were suspended on June 2 this year but if you have the acknowledgement letter you are in the pipeline. You probably know also that if you take the acknowledgement letter to the local Medicare office you can get a reciprocal Medicare card - provided you are from the UK that is. Cheers John

vava
Hi Val Is that what the old visa label says? If so, i might consider getting a label done to avoid confusion. These visa grant letters are very confusing at the moment. Hi there, My quote was from my actual visa grant letter. I don't have a label in my passport. They say labels are not necessary as all the information is on the system when they put your passport in the reader at the border. Please bear in mind that my visa was granted in 2012 and things have altered slightly in the contributary visa department. CO's are allocated after all the bits and pieces are done now whereas you got a CO before the requests for medicals, police checks and AOS back then. It seemed easier for me as we had a name and email address for our CO and any questions were answered quickly but now there seems to be a lot of automatic replies which often don't help at all. Good luck, you'll get there in the end! Val
Steve2
Hi all I'm a new member so bear with me please; we are in the process of putting together an application for a 143 visa (we're in the UK and our son and his wife are in Perth) we have come across a stumbling block already as we have some health issues which is causing us much worry. Does anyone have specific difficulties with health matters on their visa applications that may help us; I appreciate it is difficult to be too specific about what could be a sensitive and personal issue. When you say your allotment date was 12 April 2013, do you mean the date your application was lodged and received by the Contributory Parent Visa (CPV) office in Perth, which is, as far as I am aware is the only centre that deals with CPVs which intrigues me because you said you spoke to someone in the South Australia office who told you your application would be assessed and granted in mid August cheers Barry Edited June 7, 2014 by Barry001
Jerry Coull
Hey barry You're absolutely right mate. My Daughter lives in Adelaide ..so I got a bit confused and pvc perth is the only center tht deals with parent visa applications I reckon. My daughter works in the immigration dept building ..so she has some links. And the date of allotment of my visa (which means the start of the process, not the acceptance ( which is receipt date ). My lawyer sent me a email from pvc about visa progress info...if u want it, just let me know.

Fisher1
Steve 2 We have health issues that cause us worry, although we are not able to leave yet in any case, so it's all a bit academic for us for the moment. From what I have gathered on here, it's all a question of how much you are likely to cost the Oz govt in health care. So if you have had cancer, for example, they wont let you in until you have been clear for (I think) five years. Other sensitive areas seem to be kidneys and heart disease, but its difficult to get a straight answer from anyone. I asked a question about this ages ago when we thought we might be able to make the move, and someone replied with a recommendation to contact a doctor in Scotland who specialised in applications for people with health issues. It must be in the archives on here somewhere, I'll have a look and see if I can find it. Meantime, have you thought about using an agent? Fisher1
Cant find my old post but have found a reference to health issues and someone recommended George Lombard as the go to agent for health issues. Hope this helps. Good luck!
