I love Italians....fiesty buggers the women are....speak their mind...often shout it....I must get around to learning the language one day. There's an Italian club in Freo isn't there? OH went to a few Stirling lions football matches, said they were very welcoming...lots of Italians, Macedonians etc in Balcatta, Noranda, North Perth and surrounds.

Aussie born for the most part. The Italian community is ageing rapidly. It actually declined by 9% over the previous five year census, up to 2011. I'd expect far greater losses after next years census figures are released.

Italians in WA are a bit over 19,000 in number. I've always found they as a race are very diverse. From sophisticated all the way down to earthly. To me the ones born in Australia are largely Aussie, with Italian characteristics. Different from those in Italy. I've hears numerous folk say they'll learn the language out here. Not one actually did so though.

Hiya everyone

Well I've got some news. I'm off "outback" for a while. I got offered a job and after much hesitation and nipping ali, fiona and jules's head I decided to accept it and book my ticket. Im really nervous about what it might be like but Im not having any proper luck here and i'll never save anything for next year so I'm just going to give it a go and see what happens. Least i'll see some kangaroo's haha!

The owner just phoned me there and she sounded really nice so fingers crossed she is and the locals are too. Im going to give it 2 weeks and and if its really not for me then i'll head back but fingers crossed i'll last the 8 weeks. Shes picking me off the bus tomorrow

I'm going to be working in a country hotel that has a bar. So i'll be working in the bar and doing housekeeping and stuff like that. My back hurts just thinking about the housekeeping part haha
Sounds good, hope you got free digs! (and a farmer thrown in)

Well done Stacey on scoring a job in a country town in WA. You honestly will not regret the experience. It will be very different from anything you have done before, and you will meet some very lovely genuine people and some real characters too. Just hold the thought that although towns are small in the Wheatbelt of WA, they are the centre of the social life for the many farmers, their families and workers in the district, and social life in such towns centres around the local hotel/pub. Remember too that distance is nothing in country WA... people travel 100's of kms just to go shopping or socialise, so you are not going to be stuck with the 100 people all the time! Just be your gorgeous self and I bet you have so many invites that the 8 weeks will fly by! Proud of you girl - you will get more of an "Australian Experience" than the majority of WHV backpackers who stick to the big cities on the east coast. Catch up face to face when you get back to Perth. Rossy
