Well I'll leave it there then on regards prices, the massive difference between the two country's are.. My money all be it lower in the UK went a dame site further there than here. If you believe it's equal than I suggest you take a trip back. I'm not prepared to drive all over wa to get a cheaper pint, meal etc . And as for tv.. I thought UK tv was crap before I left, I don't need to say no more on that front .

Yet you say the money is a lot of your motivation for staying in Perth?

Well interview done and dusted, fingers crossed.

I know a lot people who came out to Perth full of hope and expectation of starting a new life here and now are simply staying to pay down the mortgage in the UK because of the exchange rate and that seems the sensible thing to do.

From my own point of view we self funded this move - first mistake, if you are in high demand here companies will and do relocate staff and bear the brunt of those costs, i see it daily, secondly a 457 when you have kids almost doubles your expenditure relative to the natives. We have a nursery place now for the youngest, we pay $120 a day the aussies claim back a rebate which makes it around $70 a day. That's $250 a week that could be going into the economy or into my belly. On the plus side I've lost the two stone baby weight i was struggling with.

Another thing I see a lot and read a lot on here is the amount of compromising people have to do.. And why...? Because its very expensive here.

We probably go out more and socialise more than we did in the UK - but I think it is horses for courses and again depending on where you live, pub, kebab and tele mon-friday would drive me potty but it really emphasises it's about what makes people happy and I won't knock you for it because it's each to their own.

But if you're earning less here than you were in the UK, it will be worth even less in when you convert it back to GBP?

I earn a lot more here than I did in the UK, but if I lived the same lifestyle I did in the UK now in Australia I'd be broke .

Just wanted to say goodluck and I hope you get it! Sounds like you need a break.

You might now write something like "but who drinks that swill VB". It's what you get used to. We went to a pub in Melbourne by the River, nice spot but we paid for it. Guy in front of me was drinking Asahi thought I'll try that for a change, until I heard the barmaid say $18 a pint, the only thing I could see on the bar was VB. Local brew $8 a pint. Still pricey but tasted OK.

Customer -"Bar-man, what's the cheapest, blandest, and most mediocre beer you have on tap?"

Bar-man - "Well, the VB is pretty nasty for the first twenty to thirty years sir, but it's what you get used to."

And I thought we'd all moved to Australia for the lifestyle!. It's "still pricey but it tasted ok," yippee, we're living the dream now!

What type of beer I drink or not isn't going to affect my lifestyle one jot tbh. All it did when I drank a lot was give me a headache and feel crappy the next day. It has the same affect now but I don't have to drink nearly as much. VB is not my beer of choice but it's a lot stronger that guiness or kilkenny and if that's what they had on draught it's what I'd drink. I'm no beer snob.

VB is nectar of the gods! Seriously - it beats most lagers I've drank in the UK. True - it can't compete with many of the bitters on tap for flavour, although I've probably had more off bitters than good ones. If the pubs turnover is not high, bitters can be pretty stomach turning. My golden rule is never buy a bitter from a social club. If I could get VB on tap in the UK I'd be a happy man.

Is it like the Tesco value version of beer? Tbh you could probably give me the nicest beer in the world and i probably wouldnt like it. Quite a lot of girls seem to like corona, is it a bit more sweeter or something?

Just lacks any flavour, IMHO
