  1. From my research I believe you can register before arrival and complete the 1 day course when you get there, with that being a pre requisite to enable taking on teaching jobs. 3 months seems to be the average timeframe that some TRBs are quoting.
  2. Even though you have your registration with the TRB, doesn’t ACECQA need to assess your qualifications for the ECT role within a day care?
  3. What’s your points breakdown? Any way of boosting with better test scores or partner skills?
  4. I think in addition to the 45 days supervised teaching practice being done between birth-8, the teaching qualification specifically has to state early years/childhood. You also need to have 4 years tertiary education including the PGCE. In the past people have gotten this visa with a primary qualification, but from my research, AITSL have gotten stricter on this. As others have said, it’s best to engage with a Mara agent who should have all the answers for you. I can personally recommend Concept Australia, who have just finished obtaining our visa for us under pre-primary teacher
  5. IED is 13 Feb 2019, which is the date of our medical I believe. Visa expiry date aligns with the issue date though.
  6. We have received our 189 grant today. For those interested, we had the following timeline: 17 Nov - application made 06 Feb - CO contact requesting police checks and medicals 13 Feb - all information supplied Good luck to those waiting, I know it’s a frustrating time!
  7. Thanks for the advice Sammy1. The skills assessment under ECT has already come back positive and we are waiting on the visa grant now. The plan is to register with the TRB and search for teaching jobs, but we wanted the day care work as an option, if nothing else to tide us over whilst a better job is found.
  8. We are currently waiting for the visa grant. Since writing the first post, I’ve since come to the understanding that ACECQA don’t get involved for early childhood teachers within a school setting (as mentioned in the first reply in the thread). My partner should therefore be able to register fine and teach within a school. We have also however submitted his qualifications for assessment by ACECQA to enable him to work within a daycare setting if needed. This gives him better job prospects. I’m fairly certain the assessment will come back as a diploma level which will allow him to work as an educator.
  9. It’s important to remember that educator and teacher are two different terms in this context. The 24111 relates to teaching and does not involve ACECQA

    First steps

In order to pass the skills assessment for skilled migration under 241111, you’ll need 4 years of tertiary education, including at least a 1 year teaching course dedicated to early childhood. This is generally aligned with the teacher registration boards across the states and is required for registration for school based teaching. A certificate 3 qualifies you as an Educator within a daycare setting and is different from an ECT. The ECT has different qualification requirements in order to perform this role within a daycare setting. ACECQA make the decision whether your qualifications are equivalent or not.
  11. Well done and good luck. The whole visa process can be extremely draining!
  12. In a day care. Kindy teachers fall under early childhood teacher which you need to be registered for, and have an approved qualification by ACECQA who will determine if your qualifications are equivalent to an ECT. Day care educators do not require registration, but the qualifications for that are assessed and approved by ACECQA. Take a look at the website, it may prove informative although it can all be confusing!
  13. Although you wouldn’t qualify as an early childhood teacher, you would probably qualify as a diploma level educator for day care, if thats an alternative you would consider
  14. On the the qualification side of things, an early years PGCE gained in the UK may not necessarily lead to Early Childhood Teacher status in Aus. It partly depends on the age range as ACECQA require a qualification that includes the 0-2 age range. Not sure if any PGCEs do this? Doing your studies in Aus would mean you don’t have to go down the ‘equivalent’ route, by ensuring you do a course on ACECQAs approved qualifications list. Much simpler and less hassle. You probably know that already but just wanted to point out there is a pro to your decision. Whether that outweighs the cons is for you to decide [emoji3] Good luck!
  15. Lodged 17 Nov, CO contact requesting medicals and police checks 06 Feb. Both uploaded 15 Feb. Now the wait begins again!
  16. @Ronco88 We didn’t submit form 80 either, and were not asked for it when medicals and police checks were requested
  17. Just a note that our experience with medicals was in London as we are applying off shore. Reading back, Not sure if you’re in aus? If so, then it may be different for you. Also the waiting times may vary depending on where you had it done. It is a worry, which I think everyone goes through, even if there’s no reason to! Try not to think about It too much. If you used the emedical system, you can also log on there to check which tests are competed if any
  18. For us, the physician told us that if we hadn’t heard anything from them in 2 days, then we can assume all is well. On the second day after the medicals, our agent informed us they had been uploaded and finalised on the system. Good luck!
  19. We submitted our 189 visa on 17 November, and had CO contact on 06 February requesting police checks and medicals. Hopefully front loading will speed it up for you!
  20. Just a quick note on Concept Australia. We are using this company for our 189 application for pre-primary teacher. We have submitted the visa and are waiting on our request for Medicals and police checks. They have been brilliant. Answers all questions and quick to reply. Thoroughly checks all documents and gives advice on what extra may be needed. They really know the system. The downside of having an agent is the added cost, but it’s proven to be an invaluable decision as we didn’t want to risk doing it wrong.

    AITSL Turnaround

As an update to my original post, we received a positive assessment from AITSL. We put in our EOI on Monday and received an invite in yesterdays round. Early Childhood Teacher - 75 points Hoping the info can be of use to others going through the same thing. Next stop the visa, with mountains of scanning of evidence and annoying statutory declarations (when family are in multiple countries!) Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
  22. @Anna I'm not sure if QTS is needed to be honest, I would imagine it would be. Our agent did ask for the certificate as evidence though for the skills assessment. Perhaps someone else in the know on the forums can confirm for you Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
  23. For those interested, our skills assessment was received by AITSL on 07 August, and just had word that the decision will be posted this week. 5 week turnaround much shorter than the 10 expected!
  24. @cerim he's actually going the 189 route , so a bit easier for us. Study Options looks like they could provide some good information, will have to look at that further down the line. Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
  25. Thanks for the information cerium, very useful! It's actually my partner who has the qualifications. He did a 3 year BA English and the separate PGCE in early years. Supervised teaching is also all in order, so confident the skills assessment will be ok. I'm thinking he'll have to work and study to top up with the qualification. I've noticed some jobs being offered on the condition that the candidate is willing to study towards what is needed for ECT status. Sent from my iPhone using PomsinOz
