  1. It sounds like it's just a question of time so hopefully once that court order gets through you'll be given the grant in no time but the wait and most of all the lack of timeframe can be frustrating, I think we can all relate! Best of luck to you. Bit surprised by the number of people here migrating to Melbourne too! Maybe that's why the city feels European at times - because we're all moving there
  2. Another Melbournian to be ? how envious I am of your camper plan, I'd love to do that! It's gonna be great, have loads of fun Getting married in November so everything is coming fast now!
  3. Anywhere will be nice after Lewisham ? (sorry, don't mean to be rude to Lewisham - I'm SE London too ) Good luck I've been to Footscray a couple of times. Didn't find it threatening but admittedly didn't stay there long enough to form an educated opinion...
  4. Wow congrats! That was FAST! Where in Oz are you moving? Wedding booked! Removal normally happening this Monday! It was a job and a half packing and evaluating everything (and all the forms to fill!) but finally - it's getting real
  5. I'm sorry to hear about your situation... social networking has changed the game and for us "older" generations who are not accustomed to share our private life on Facebook and the likes it's not necessarily a natural thing to do. I hope you get through this Congrats @Andy R! That was one fast grant
  6. Thanks! I might indeed be confusing requirements for PR with requirements for citizenship
  7. Is there a cap on the time you spend out of Australia during those 2 years though? I.e. you can't be away from the country more than X months in total or consecutively? (I mean I'm sure you can technically, but I wonder if it impacts the decision on PR).
  8. Hehe.. okay so the inventory is simple enough God I didn't even see that service on their website, I'm so useless! Thanks, I'll have a look. I'm moving from London which make things easier. Yup, packing a suitcase and going - that was my plan/assumption too ? oops... Hope your preparations are going well!
  9. Thank you for those great tips! I was going for the cube assuming it was cheaper but I am going to call a removal company and get a quote just in case. I like that they pack and load it for you - I'm doing the move on my own so that would save me some hassle (and countless muscle sprains! God books are HEAVY and this is most of my cargo... I'm a book hoarder...) Sorry for derailing the topic, I'll post in the removal sections if I have more questions
  10. Thank you, that's helpful - and reassuring! I was picturing myself having to check the labels on all my clothes
  11. Do you mind if I pick your brain on that? I know you need to declare what's in the boxes, but how much detail do they need? I was thinking they might want to check clothes made of wool (for moths) etc... do they ask you to list the materials of all items per box? Good reminder in the insurance, need to look into that as well... Then give notice to HMRC etc... Wrapping up your life in one country is one long job!
  12. Aaah the hard way then ? I thought Anglo Pacific offered to do a quote in person but maybe it was wishful thinking (reading) on my side! It's good to know they are flexible. Looking at pictures I might be able to get away with a small cube, but that might be optimistic. Really have to do my own mock-up. Thanks for the tips!
  13. That's very good to know, thanks! We have a joint account in a small bank that seems to only offer regular accounts to citizens/permanent residents, which I find odd ?... another thing I'll have to investigate!
  14. I have trouble estimating how big a cube I'm gonna need... did you work it out yourself or did they come in person to have a look and give you an estimate (I think some companies provide that service)?
  15. Application lodged Feb 2017 (London) Request for medical and PCC March 2017 Documents sent April 2017 PMV granted May 2017 (don't have the exact dates at hand sorry! But it took 3 months almost to the day) Good luck to all the one thing I would say is that gathering evidence can take more time than you might think as there is a lot of various things you can provide to give evidence of a relationship (bills, tickets, emails, interactions on social media, photos etc), so you need to allocate time to fish them out, scan/screencap, and organise them properly to make your CO's life easier!
  16. I know, organising that move is daunting, I find new things to sort out every day! Good luck! Hope the 820 is straightforward too. Given that we come from a 300 where the sponsor already has to provide a police check etc I wonder if the sponsor approval process gets fast-tracked in that new two-steps procedure.
  17. Well done! How are you finding Melbourne in winter? Locals say it's cold but I need a Northern European perspective, I'm not sure they know what cold is
  18. Amazing!!! Congrats ? how nice of them to call you to make sure it fitted your schedule! When are you flying? So there will be a few of us 300ers applying for a 820 in the next few months... interested to see how the partner visa changes will affect us all...
  19. ? ? (Hehe, yes I'm still in a European timezone/mindset! that's a point - better pack the suitcase knowing it will be winter when I land and not summer!)
  20. I'm planning to move there this Autumn and would happily meet with other fellow migrants when I get there
  21. You might also get more response from the partner visa section of this forum https://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/46-family-partner-visas/
  22. The way I understand it is that as long as - you have concrete evidence of living together for +5 years (bills, rent etc), being socially accepted as a couple (photos with friends/family, invites to events together etc), sharing finances (joint account, joint holidays etc) - you explain in detail why you had to live apart - you can prove that during those months apart you were constantly in contact (phone bill, text messages, emails etc) Then you should be fine. But maybe people who have been in a similar situation or an agent can confirm!
  23. Nah, I doubt the European tribe can afford to come. I have friends in Melbourne though, so all good! Haha, I can imagine! It's enormous! But I like that Melbs is a big city in terms of scale, but it's still very easy to find quiet suburbs where people take the time to live. Not as stupidly hectic as London!
  24. I've been to Melbourne a few times and it feels a LOT safer than home (London). The door to the place we were renting in west Melbs wouldn't close properly and I came home a few times finding the door wide open - with nothing stolen. I've been told suburbs like North Melbourne were best avoided though.
  25. Congratulations and all the best for the packing/moving etc! Did you go straight to 100 then?
