  1. Hello, I am due to to apply for my 887. One of the requirements is living in a regional area for 2 years. I was under the impression that you would just start counting the 2 years from the date you started living in the regional area. Any temporary time out of the area (a holiday in my case) wouldn’t matter as you are still technically residing in the state. However I have just spoken to someone who has advised that you need to discount any holiday time from that 2 years tally. Apparently an agent had advised them of this. I am not sure how true this is. I was wondering if someone can clarify please? Thanks
  2. I wouldn’t expect a company to have engineers at every site. for example we don’t have them in Melbourne and Sydney. As you say they use subcontractors. Someone has to fill those positions.

  4. I have had this conversation with a few people. It seems to be people identify their nationality with the country they grew up in. I think the psychology of an accent also plays a lot into this.
  5. I get that. But you’re giving the impression Sydney and Melbourne is where it’s at. However for a position like this it’s evenly spread across the country and in proportion to the population.
  6. You can’t really compare a network engineer job prospects to a BA. A BA can carry out their tasks anywhere - ours are based in India. A network engineer not so much so.
  7. I can confirm it isn't. I know someone who was refused an exemption for a funeral.
  8. Hello, I applied (and was granted) my 489 visa 2 years ago and I used the services of a migration agent. I am now preparing to apply for my 887 PR visa. As the process is fairly straightforward I am considering doing it myself. At the time my agent submitted the application on their own Immi account and after it was granted I imported it to my login. How do I remove my former agent please? I noted when I updated my passport information a couple of years ago and updated my contact details last month the former agent received email confirmation for both.I don't wish for them to receive details of my 887 application. If it's a new application does the information about the former agent carry across? I looked at this form but it seems like it only applies for applications / cancellations in progress - https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/form-listing/forms/956a.pdf Thank You
  9. This isn't correct. Advance account holders don't pay any fees either.
  10. Good morning, I work in IT and gained a 489 visa (something they don't issue anymore) a few years back. They have replaced it with the 491 visa. I migrated as a Network Engineer with my only qualification being a Cisco CCNP, certified 4 years before I applied. Although I never actually worked as a network engineer but as a network manager. The 491 is a temporary visa but with a pathway to permanent residency. Things have changed since I went through the process and I believe for the worse. You may find in IT the only way you can get here is to be sponsored for work in a regional area. This discounts Melbourne. Although if you're a Citizen or have another visa path this but can be ignored! I am in Adelaide. Here cost of living is much less and network / systems engineers can gain $90k easy. There is a lack of them here. I am a manager and it took me 4 months to find a good candidate in a vacant position. I can't comment on the Melbourne market but I would guess it would be quite a bit more than $90k. @Ausvisitor - That is true but there are many areas of IT. There is a need for network engineers all over the country as much of the work can't be done remotely. These guys setup and maintain the networks that provide the remove access so if they are offline they can't get in themselves. I would advise people in these positions to where they want to live as there is plenty of opportunity in all the states.
  11. This doesn't mean the borders will open in 2024. By returning to normal they mean the airline will return, passenger numbers will increase, frequency of flights will be restored etc. It doesn't mean that international travel won't be possible until 2024.
  12. Something to note: The housing market is also booming. According to my friend (who is an expert in the field) the market is currently inflated 15%-20% and it isn't sustainable to continue at this rate. There is a slump coming. The reason for the inflation is that the short term demand has increased due to people moving from Melbourne, most of these people originated in SA. The long lockdown was the straw that broke the camels back.
  13. You don't need to certify. Colour scans are fine. I never had any issues.
  14. It would probably take longer than 14 days to arrive anyway so I wouldn't bother. In the meantime you will be issued with a number that you can be used anyway. Having a physical card doesn't actually matter.
  15. Australian law states that Australian citizens must enter the country on Australian passports. If you apply for a visa in his British passport it will be automatically refused.
  16. Hello, Does anyone know if you have to be an Australian citizen to travel to New Zealand via the new travel bubble or is it open to all passport holders please? Thanks
  17. I suppose it can also depend on how many contributions you need to meet the minimum number of years. I think it was 35 years (off top of my head).
  18. I have just calculated mine. It would take less than 12 months to break even for the voluntary contributions. I didn't take inflation into account.
  19. That’s the other way around. The landlord has 28 days as you quoted. But the tenant has 3 months to end the lease.
  20. You have to give them 3 months notice that you don't want to renew. If you miss this you will be automatically in a new lease.
  21. You will all be permanent residents. You can use the public health system straight away. You won't have to pay a big bill.
  22. Hello, There are lots of poms in Hallets Cove. In fact it's quite embarrassing, we are supposed to be integrating not setting up little britain. Personally I would avoid the area anyway as some of the surrounding suburbs are a little daggy. The property market is hot here. Both sales and rentals are can be snapped up in just a few days. It works on the terms of the real estate agents - not something I particularly like! I agree with the above about the job situation. I was lucky and managed to snap up an ideal job 5 mins from home. One you get your foot in the door you should be ok. Cheers
  23. Has anyone been to the Foodland is Pasadena, Adelaide? It's excellent. Have a look at some of these photos - https://www.constructwell.com.au/pasadena/qgwqr8du6ldyc5ynaqixjgzggzhygh
  24. I find that UK supermarkets are cheaper but the quality of the food in Australian supermarkets is better.
