  1. Your current job title doesn't matter. It's the tasks you're carrying out that matter. I was an l IT Manager. I got a positive skills assessment under "Computer Network and Systems Engineer". I then changed to " Network Administrator" as SA state sponsorship required less points. I since got the visa and moved to Australia.
  2. I would be interested in a group meet some time.
  3. Thanks for the replies everyone. I am not trying to pick holes or anything I just want to be certain in my mind. Question - If for example I get cover for the ambulance in SA and have an accident in QLD. What would happen? Would I not be covered or is there some kind of cross state agreement please?
  4. I can't see where that defines what is "clinically essential".
  5. I am struggling to find a definition of clinically essential on the website. What source did you use please?
  6. Hello, I have recently arrived in Australia on a 489 and can get medicare under the reciprocal agreement. I understand this doesn't cover: medicines that aren’t in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme medicines for In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) care planned before you got to Australia care for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) private hospital care public hospital care as a private patient ambulance travel dental care unless it’s in the Chronic Disease Management scheme care from a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, eye therapist, chiropractor, podiatrist or psychologist unless it’s in the Chronic Disease Management scheme acupuncture unless it’s from a doctor glasses and contact lenses hearing aids and other devices prostheses costs someone else is responsible for - for example an insurer, employer or government agency care that isn’t clinically essential cosmetic surgery checks for life insurance or superannuation or to join a friendly society home nursing If I go to a public hospital as a public patient everything else is covered under Medicare. This is similar to the NHS (ambulance is probably the biggest difference). When I get a PR the list above is reduced eg: prostheses & physiotherapist I understand that if I go to a doctor that bulk bills it's all covered by Medicare. If I go to one that doesn't do bulk billing I have to pay the gap between the doctors actual fee and schedule fee. This shouldn't be huge amount anyway. If the doctor refers me to a specialist can this be done via public so I don't pay? Assuming I am happy to go all public and I know the above list isn't covered and happy to pay for them - Do I actually need private cover? Is there anything I might have missed please? Thanks
  7. 2 contacts is hardly an issue. Not worth getting upset about.
  8. I have sent you a private message. Thanks
  9. Probably because he isn't a local and wouldn't know about these things...
  10. This might not be true. You need to make sure you have the points and meet the other requirements. Even if you have the application minimum of 65 points it doesn't mean you will be invited for a 189 visa. The minimum number of points to receive an invite for the 189 is 70. They haven't invited anymore with 65 points for a few years. If you do have 65 points it doesn't mean its the end of the road - you could look at the 489 or 190 visa. Also there are other steps depending on the visa. How many points do you have? How have you totalled this? What visa are you looking at? You need to get all the prerequisites done first such as the skills assessment etc. Assuming you're confident with the skills assessment I would do the english first. Some people have done the skills assessment first, took longer than expected to get the points for the English exam. In the meantime their skills assessment expired so needed to repeat it. Once you have all the prerequisites then start the EOI.
  11. This is correct. I it has been years (i think) since they invited anyone with 65 points. If they do start inviting people there will be thousands with 65 points who applied before you. The chances of an invite for a 189 with 65 are very slim. Are you taking into account the full 20 points on offer for the English test? You could look at the 489 or 190 visa. The 489 you get 10 extra points for applying. 190 you get 5. You will need state sponsorship though. I used my post recent payslip and for the rest I used references. You can't use your work DBS if that is what you're thinking. You have have to get a police certificate from here: https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx You only need to worry about these late on in the application stage. You only have 12 months from this being issued to when you must cross the Australian border (it can just be a holiday not permanent move).
  12. I think its worth adding that in order to get a student loan she will need to be a citizen,
  13. I gained a positive skills assessment under that occupation. However I switched to 263112 (Network Administrator) as it was easier to get in under this occupation. The point requirement for South Australia state sponsorship was lower. In addition to this less people applied under this occupation. When you get the visa the job he actually works wouldn't matter. A Levels might not get him a skills assessment. I gained a Cisco CCNP in order to get a positive skills assessment. If he is a network engineer he might already have one - if not he might have a CCNA and this is half way to getting a CCNP. I can recommend an agent who specialises in IT applications if you like? He got my visa granted in January and it sounds like myself and your partner are in similar occupations.
  14. The above is correct. However by the time your child is ready for university you will be eligible for an 887 so once you have this you can pay domestic fees. It will be tight so might need a gap year.
  15. Don't get me wrong - I wasn't trying to catch you out. Was just trying to point out it's not necessary. I didn't want to OP to think their chances are crushed.
  16. He doesn't need a degree. I work in IT, never went to college and don't have a degree. I started working straight out of school at 16. I am a visa holder and will be moving to Australia next week. Original poster - what area of IT does your boyfriend work in?
  17. According to Google it is a level 5 diploma. I am thinking this is basically the equivalent to finishing TAFE / College? I have other qualifications as well. For example my Cisco certifications forms the majority of a degree in networking. I am just concerned that mentioning that might distract from these or maybe devalue them. Thanks
  18. Hello, Can someone please help me and tell me what the British Equivalent of an AQF Diploma is please? On my skills assessment the Australian Computer Society has said my technical skills are comparable to an AQF Diploma with a major in computing. I am wondering if this worth mentioning on my CV. Not sure if I would be more damaging to include this. Thanks
  19. Only the primary applicant need to do the English test so if this isn't you it might be good news. If you are the primary applicant can it be switched around and your wife takes the test? If not don't give up!! It took me many attempts and I finally cracked it, I now hold a visa and fly out in a couple of weeks.
  20. Night be a daft question - but how can you go last week?
  21. In every industry there are going to be bad apples. But with this it can really change someones life.
