1. Good to know! My 2 boys have had chicken pox so don't need varicella. They do need Hep B though so will arrange that when we get there, I wonder though if it will be me giving it, given the job/ I am going to...:err:
2. Australian immunisation schedule. You attend your GP and ask for the others you need. You will need a certificate to say you are vaccinated for school, or that you are a conscientious objector. I think Medicare give you these. I checked the school enrolement policy (NSW) so it may differ in QLD schools.
3. Fingers crossed! Sometimes it seems bad and the feedback/vibes aren't good and then you get the post. I hope that is the case here
4. APHRA accepted it, I haven't done the skills assessment yet. I didn't wait on an email, I rang to check a week later, there was no issue about ringing and they gave the information I needed as well as explaining what an eu directive was and that APHRA had accepted them before.
5. Was it ehealth or paper version of medicals? Did you ask the clinic, if ehealth, had they uploaded them? I did a medical on Tuesday in Dublin and they are marked received yesterday evening so it seems strange yours aren't.
6. I phoned and they confirmed mine had been posted the previous day, well the EU directive - not the transcript as they didn't have that. They were very helpful.
7. Could your employer chase them for you? Sometimes that helps. Especially if you are going to a regional area? or so I'm told. Good luck
8. Sorry to hear your news Vicky. I wish you a speedy recovery and full remission asap. Don't lose heart, I am 47 and going on a 457 but am being sponsored for PR when I get there, they would have done it first, but processing is taking way too long to wait on it for the job. Fingers and toes crossed for you.
9.

Thank you! I will do just that, great advice! Medical tomorrow afternoon, fingers crossed <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20" />

10.

Thank you!!! How long did yours take? xo

11. Hi Sinead, welcome to PIO. Registration with NWBA is enough for 457. APHRA is the umbrella organisation that register all health professionals in Oz. There are several threads with blow by blow advice about doing this, have a read and come back with any questions. Good Luck
12. Hi Michael, I heard about FG Wilson on radio Ulster, I am sorry. It is a terrible shame. :frown: Check the age limits on the WHV on Diac. Check what skills assessments you or your partner needs. Only one of you needs to make the application for the independent visa so only one skills assessment unless you need partner points. You will need a WHV each, I think. Good luck!
13. I am leaving my older sister who has downs syndrome and dementia. I have bought a lidded box and an filling it with little things she will like, disney pens on strings, cat mobile phone charm, photographs of her with us, the kids and so on. I am putting my email and skype on the inside of the lid and the times it would be good to get me and am setting her laptop up with the skype. I am really dreading this but think it might help me feel better and her cope with missing, a very very little bit. Good luck with your little grandson
14. Guys I am filling out my visa application. One of the questions in the health section asks: During your proposed stay do you or anyone included in the application expect to incur medical costs, or require treatment or medical follow up for: other? Is this a loaded question? Surely everyone will incur medical costs in australia as it is not free like NHS. OR are they asking if anyone in the family has any pre-existing condition like asthma or high blood pressure or ??? that will require regular meds and occasional GP visits?
15. Can I ask what way did the start date work, someone queried that if for example You took 21 day cover that the visa wouldn't be issued until that started and would delay issue of your visa? May I ask how that worked for you?
16. If you want a sponsored visa, temporary.....then APHRA first. Getting a skills assessment with ANMAC and then a PR skilled visa is the best option as it allows you to choose where you go, when you go and gives all the advantages of being PR. Good luck.
17. Good news.......I gave away my mourning clothes......
18. But will the patient live to see another day?
19. You need to ensure that you set up the UK end before you go. NMC will send a statement of good standing to APHRA, and transcripts if you need them. You need to arrange a Statement of Service (basically a reference which includes the dates of employment, hours and roles/duties). Trying to sort out later would be a big problem with the time difference If you went to Uni you need to arrange an academic transcript/syllabus which APHRA prefer sent direct to them from the Uni. Given the difficulties that APHRA can give some nurses in terms of additional paperwork asked for; if it was me I would do this before coming over and get eligibility. This is valid for a year. When you get to australia you can then take your time to complete and finish registration. You need to be registered to work, not just eligible. It takes several weeks to arrange paperwork, proof of english education etc
20. Thank you for a lovely clear explanation. I too have a 14 year old who just started year 10 here but will start year 9 in Jan 13. I hope you have good outcome from this, their ages will help in terms of the courts recognising their feelings and wishes in these matters. Did you ever keep a diary of his behaviour? Contemporaneous records of such things can be very powerful. Good luck
21. You can apply anytime, APHRA doesn't need you to have a visa to apply. You will need to go to Australia to finish the identity process though to get full registration rather than just eligibility.
22. I am still learning about ages and school years in Australia. What ages are your children?
23. I have been open and honest with my boss from the start, I'm in a post like DelaneyM. I have always believed in workforce planning/sucession planning and have mentored all my team as well as possible so one or all would be able to do my job if I was sick etc. At least one of them will apply to cover my post for the first year and if PR comes in I will officially resign. It was my boss who asked that I take the career break so that if I didn't like it or came back from a temp visa she wouldn't lose me, which is lovely. She is a great boss. Nursing is like that, no one stays for ever, the longest I have ever been in any post was 5 years........
