Hi out there

I am just wondering how long people waited after sending in medicals, forms and AOS being collected, before they heard about their visa?

Many thanks

Moira

Hi Moira, Hope you are well. Just to give you an idea of our timescale; AoS confirmation letter sent to DIAC from Centrelink on 12 July, we heard nothing further until I sent DIAC an email on 27th August asking how long it would be before they requested the final VAC. The reply they sent told me that they were currently dealing with applications received in March 2012 (we applied in May 2012) so we booked a holiday to the Canaries! DIAC requested the money the morning we went on holiday so we paid when we got back and the visa was granted on 3rd October.

I'm not sure how long we would have waited if I hadn't emailed. It just seemed daft to me that they go to the bother of requesting all the AoS stuff and then do nothing with it!

Hope you hear something soon and please let us know how you get on!

Cheers Val x

Hi

Yes I currently live in the Uk and my older sister in the Perth, My mum and dad want to move.

My younger sister is disabled and would be going with my mum and dad but not really sure how it works?

Nicola

Hi

If I understand correctly, you yourself are in the UK, you have one sister in Perth and another sister who lives with your mum and dad. If this is the case, unless I have misunderstood, as I see it your parents do not currently meet the balance of family test as they currently have more children in the UK than in Australia. This would not be met until you yourself were a permanent resident in Australia.

Have a look at page 24 of Booklet 3 which explains the BOF test:

Hi Nicola- you need to read the links you were given as it will explain it all to you- basically though your mum & dad have 3 children- To satisfy the BoF 2 of them already need to be "settled" in Aus before she can apply for a Parent Visa. So until you get there & settle yourselfthey will not be able to apply forthemselves & your younger sister ( & you would need to talk to a RMA to determine if she would be classed as dependent on them)

So nearly 2mths Val. I have been waiting about 4wks and have emailed twice. As you may remember the Panel Doctor told me that they would ask me to have further tests and I thought they would ask for them within 2 wks but I must wrong. I keep hoping they wont as for further tests, although I had a course of antibiotics and I am now OK.

Will let you know what happens

If I remember correctly you are in Oz at the moment, hope you are having a great time

Hi Moira,

keep emailing till somebody replies, its ridiculous you being kept waiting like this. I must say that the parent visa centre seems very slap dash nowadays. The person who wrote to me could hardly string a sentence together properly and the spelling was very poor!

We're not in Oz yet, we go next Sunday but just for Christmas as daughter has had another baby last week.

Best of luck with it all, keep us posted,

Val x

Hi, I'm expecting my CO any day now, I see on the tracker the person who was acknowledged 1st Sept 2011 got theirs today my ack date is 6th Sept 2011. I am applying for the 173 temp visa so there is no AOS. Could anyone tell me how long approx after being appointed a CO could I expect to get the visa? Many thanks. Fran.

Hi Moira. We had our medicals done on 28/06/12 and the AoS was paid on 09/08/12. Our visa was granted on 31/08/12. Vava is right; just keep emailing - you have nothing to lose! Things seemed to get moving for us when we emailed a copy of our police reports. We got a reply asking us to send them by post for the attention of our Case Officer and gave us his details. Good luck! Angie

Hi Tab

We have been here 4 weeks now and have settled into things pretty well. It seemed so different at first but now we are getting used to the Aussie way of life. I'm not sure where you might be heading for - we are in Queensland and the weather and lifestyle is just perfect for us. We have got to know some of the neighbours who are about the same age as ourselves and one couple are going to take us to some of the local community groups. I think they can give us lots of tips on seniors cards etc. We are currently looking for a caravan so we can go exploring. No jobs yet but we have only just started looking and ideally we would like to do some touring around first before we are tied to time off from work. To sum up we are really enjoying the new experience! Take care. Angie x

Rethinking everything!:skeptical:

I have recently applied for a temp parent visa 173. Now concerned about the financial commitement as some of my circumstances have changed.I am considering now changing to a 103 parent visa and was wondering if anyone else has done this and how it worked out for them? Any advice would be appreciated as starting to panick a bit !

Hi

I can't help with changing from 173 to 103 but we applied for 143 2 years ago and got as far as getting a CO but financial circumstances forced us to cancel the CO. When I asked the question "When we re-apply will the initial payment we made for the CO be taken into account" I was told no we would have to start from the beginning so my gut instinct is you will have to cancel the 173 and make a fresh application for the 103 but hopefully someone can give you a definate answer.

I really feel for you  but stay strong, here we are 2 years down the line looking again at applying for the 173

Thanks Phoebe. Going around in circles trying to logicaly think this through. My partner and I are now looking at the possibility of a student visa for him as he wants to study(whilst on a 103) This would give us more time to get our finances together and we can then change visa at a later date if finance allows.

OOps!! Phoebe.. just realised you are still in UK !

Well, my three weeks with grandson and new granddaughter are nearly finished, all too soon!

I have one full day left and am being taken to CafeSydney for lunch by my daughter and to the Casino in the evening by my son in law....brave man!

I have checked in for my flights back on Thursday but already cannot wait until March when I come back with John. Some serious work to be done on him in the meantime lol!!

Many thanks to Marian and John and Eirian for their hospitality, hope you enjoyed 'Coldplay' Marian!

Will see you again soon Sydney, maybe next time to North Curl Curl, I fell in love with the place! Anyone want to swap for a while?...

To all here already....cheers you lucky people!

To the rest of us with feet on or near the ladder, keep the faith, all will be right in the end........

Cheers Pam

Hi Pam

I know how you feel - just got back last Saturday after two months in and around Sydney. I felt so down when we left but am beginning to settle again now. Have downloaded forms for the 103 today and sent the link for the sponsors form to my daughter, so at least I feel as though I have done something constructive.

Wishing you a safe flight home

Kath

Hi all

I'm wondering how other people paid their visa fees? Although the 103 costs a relatively small amount to set in motion, I would prefer to pay it in oz dollars, as I have read somewhere on here that the oz govt gives quite a poor rate of exchange if you pay in stirling. How are fees paid can anyone tell me? In your country of residence or by transfer to oz?

All advice welcome.

Great news Fran and i am so very pleased for you, your right it has been a long journey and stressful doesn't even cover it, i hope to join you in the celebrations soon just as soon as my son gets through to centrelink who at the moment keep putting him on hold for 40mins and then the call cuts out so he has to start again, 16 times he tried yesterday finally got through yesterday to speak to someone and got as far as giving the lady his name and the call cut out, it was 4.30pm so he tried once more to no avail, just hope he gets lucky tomorrow, such a poor service. Anyway it's going to be a great xmas for you now it's all over. Can't wait for our meet up for a holiday in sunny perth or Brisbane. Gilly  smiley back at ya fran.. i know how you love them
