@Bulya, currently 88% here, but only ‘cos we just recorded 129 mm (5 “). And still raining. The orchids love the warmth and humidity... Cheers, Bobj.
  3. @Bulya. They are known to eat smaller browns and tigers; but not as a regular type meal. I have actually seen it happen in The New England Ranges while trout fishing up on the Paradise Creek. Cheers, Bobj.
  4. Well done to that young bloke. I used to get big mobs out of Proserpine dam, while barra fishing. Only time that I know of to tell the difference between male and female is when the female is in 'berry'. To clean redclaw, first bung 'em in a container of salt water for an hour To boil the redclaw if he doesn' t have a big boiler, is to cut the heads off prior to boiling them in salty water and bury the heads... Cheers, Bobj.

Love it, @Toots. It’s a 100 km round trip for us to see a movie, suffice to say, we just wait for a good film to come up on tv. Just had 2 new air con units installed last week! Can take any heat, but the humidity does get a teensy bit too much... Cheers, Bobj.

  16. A small incidence re firies: a neighbour has a water service point in her garden, but, as it is on the council side, never got the plate cleaned of debris and soil, resulting in the grass growing and hiding it. The firies did a test of the hydrants, mine was ok, but they had to bang around with a long handled spade to find hers. I think the fire Captain gave her good old talking to. He pointedly pointed out that her house, being fibro and wood could well have been lost in the time it took to locate the hydrant. Cheers, Bobj.
  17. We had the local firies do a backburn one year and the big old tree behind my place started burning. I told a bloke that the tree had been a nesting site for a family of kookas for years. He immediately got on the two-way to the water truck bloke to come and keep the fire down around the tree.years later the kookas are still in residence Cheers, Bobj..

  21. Mate! Love that attitude. Been in Australia for over 55 years and still having an outdoors lifestyle at age 79...Do what you and your partner feel you should do. Be positive in your outlook. And to hell with the negative comments. I can honestly say that I’ve had a fabulous life here. And, enjoy your lives together Cheers, Bobj. PS. In all my time in Australia, I have only lived in cities for about 2 years, My time has been spent in The Kimberlies, northern New England and now in the Whitsunday/ Mackay Region.
