  1. 75 years ago today, the biggest invasion the world has seen. Cheers, Bobj.
  2. My thoughts exactly, @rammygirl. Enjoy what you have and have what you enjoy. When the weather is fine, I spend most mornings sat on a rock with a fishing rod and enjoying looking at the Whitsunday Islands. A simple life, that's my philosophy...Why make it complicated by trying to keep up with the Joneses, or worrying about who is going to rule the world? Cheers, Bobj.
  3. Retired 20 years ago at age 58, on a pension of sorts...Centrelink...until age 60, then Centrelink realised that people over 60 don’t get jobs, so got a pension. Some of my super went into buying shares and quite a hap, hap happy bloke, now... I urge all of you to make sure you have no debts at retirement age; we were fortunate in that we only had a short mortgage time, 4 years. Ergo, no outstanding debts. Cheers, Bobj.
  4. 5. Spraying the waters with light oils where mozzies breed is very effective as well, maybe even more so. Cheers, Bobj.
  6. Blighty? Not in my wildest dreams, bully. Went out this morning to get a few pics... Cheers, Bobj.
  7. The Sunshine Coast certainly has grown, @ramot.Coolum was a few scattered houses and a caravan park. I did the initial base investigation for the Coolum High School. The whole area was a paddock. I think it was in 1982/3 Cheers, Bobj.
  8. Retired here 20 years ago, Downtown Ball Bay. No earthly reason to change from my peaceful backwater. No shops, no litter, part of a community rather than a face in a rat race. Uptown Ball Bay, looking downtown... Cheers, Bobj. PS. The phone booth and a school bus shelter are the only public utilities in the village.
  9. Just reading back on this camping lark and have to query that bit about Rangers finding you. Mum and I have camped many times in the East Kimberley area and not even seen any Rangers. We camped on the side of the Spillway from Lake Argyle, a place that many locals camp along, judging from the discarded cans, bottles and general rubbish. I suppose the Rangers haven’t found that place yet. Also camped in a few places along the Ord River, out from Kununurra and no rubbish, or Rangers. Perhaps they haven’t managed to get that far north... A little thing I learned many years ago, find old Main Road gravel pits for an overnight camp; fairly clean and private... Cheers, Bobj.
  10. Same area as last photo; this time without the cane grass. King River, NT Cheers, Bobj.
  11. That is nice. No chairs??? We always take 3, just in case one of Big W's 'expensive' commodities karks it...
  12. Looking for options...Sarina Beach, bus for kids to Sarina High School https://sarinashs.eq.edu.au/ 30 minutes to Mackay Airport Sarina Beach Realty. https://www.domain.com.au/sale/sarina-beach-qld-4737/ Cheers, Bobj.
  13. Do you jolly campers go for the love of camping, or is there any special purpose? My camping is because I love to fish pristine waters and for fossicking, hence the “rough and ready” gear. BTW, Mum loves this way of camping as well. Cheers, Bobj.

It always makes me smile when Laborites argue the toss when they keep on losing... Cheers, Bobj.

Very simply, I don't get anything except the knowledge that Australia will be far better off than under a Government that cannot help but mismanage the economy. Cheers, Bobj.

  19. Forgot to say that the mines are in and around Tennant Creek, about 500 km. from The Alice. Cheers, Bobj.
  20. G'day, mate, have a squiz at this link; http://traveloutbackaustralia.com/living-in-alice-springs-whats-it-really-like.html/ The Alice is, um, er, like no other town in Australia. Workwise, there are still a few mines working and a lot of people are itinerant workers, so, there may be a couple of opportunities. Cheers, Bobj.
  21. The UK had deteriorated so much in the 4 years since I left, I cut short my 6 month planned holiday, and only stayed 1 month. Cheers, Bobj.
  22. @ali I didn't...I had an adventure to start. And it is still going on, 56 years later. Cheers, Bobj.
  23. Making your own tracks...Bush camping in the NT, near a pristine river full of barramundi. In my opinion, the only way to go camping...
  24. This is my 56th year in Australia and in that time, have only spent about 2 years in cities, And I have lived a full and very happy life in the Kimberley and Pilbara Regions in WA, New England in NSW and retirement in theWhitsunday Region. Cheers, Bobj.
