hi

hope this helps, prices were from oct15, not sure if they have changed.

1. Contributory Parent (Migrant) 143 visa - First: $4,705 per application for 2 adults; Second: $43,600 per person.

Thank you :-) I've told my Dad its roughly GBP3,000 to put the application in. Is the second amount payable once the visa application has been approved?

The 143 is supposed to be the fastest option other than getting a tourist visa, the 600 visa gives you up to a year and many people at the end of their wait for 143 have done this when the visa has been delayed due to high numbers of applicants and allocation being full before the year end, Immi year end is July 31st. If in Australia when the visa is about to be granted the applicants would need to leave the country and then re enter when visa is granted to validate it. We have been waiting since April 2015, it seems longer and it is difficult to plan anything when we don't know how many are in front of us. Good luck

Thank you. My parents are both retired and come over here for the Australian summer every year so I've said if the 143 isn't fast enough they can do the tourist/visitor visa in the meantime - my bro lives in NZ so they could always hop over there when/if it looks like they're going to get the 143 visa granted. They can live with us no problem and they don't need to work.

The uncertainty is the big problem - my Dad is umming and ahhing about planning everything out and then submitting the visa application - whereas I'm trying to get them to put the application in and do the planning/preparation afterwards. They emigrated to France nearly 10 years ago so they know what they're letting themselves in for, sort of, in terms of relocating etc. My parents just like to have water-tight plans and unfortunately the Australian visa process is anything but, as I well know!

Hello all in the waiting room

Just got the latest update from IMMI, now processing 143's lodged up to 5th June 14 - getting closer Amanda JB!

Julie

Hi Julie,

Hurrah, some movement :-) There are actually nine days between 5 June 14 and my date, taking out weekends. It's a shame that the June 2014 onwards applicants have been unable to get ALL ducks in a row before a CO is appointed. The only thing outstanding for us now is the AoS. I had asked at the end of June 2016 for the relevant information to get the ball rolling, as they had advised me to do that back in May 2016, however the reply I received was an apology with the advice that it is just not possible, as it would pretty much be a case of double processing - I understand what the mean, but it's such a pity that we didn't get the information up front, same as the applicants who lodged earlier (or so I believe). Have a great weekend, I'm getting so jealous of you all who have managed to get out their early - I may be looking at December before I can get there, with trying to finalise then 3 months notice :-( Still, it WILL happen, patience.... !

What about an 864 Contributory Aged Parent visa. I’m led to believe that they are being processed a lot quicker at the moment. I must admit we have been thinking that we should have gone down that route now that the waiting time for 143 is so long. The trouble is we are very cautious and didn't want to sell up and move out to Australia just in case things went wrong and we weren't granted a visa and had to then come back and pick up the threads again. It is a bit of a minefield.

Hi Amanda

I too have been counting the working days, we are at 12, if IMMI keep to processing 2 days worth per week we shouldn't,t be too long now. I also asked if I could do AOS last week, they said no! We have to be off shore by 2oct as we are on a visitors visa so I think it we will be extremely lucky if we get everything in place by then. I don't think it can get any worse on the exchange rate, we really don't know what to do about buying a house, we are going to I loose thousands if we shift our money from the Uk. Still it,s lovely to be here with our family, it will all come together soon. Have a great weekend.

Hi guys,

My mum lodged her 143 visa on 9 July 2014 and we are still waiting for a case officer. She stays with me for about 3 months and then returns home for a few weeks before she returns. Would she be able to get her medicals and police checks done ahead so that she doesn't have to wait much longer when she gets a case officer? Also, how long does it take from the allocation of case officer to visa approval? This wait is frustrating..It was 18 months when we first put in an application for her and how it's stretched out to 27 months!!!!

Hi

Join the club of frustrated applicants. We lodged in June 2014 and we are still waiting. Your mum can request the police reports whenever she wants, they come through very quickly, but bear in mind that they need to be valid at the time of assessment so don't do them too early. I asked IMMI if we could do our medicals because we were going to be in Austrlia and eventually after asking 3 times they issued the Hap ID letter to allow the meds to be done. You could try asking for the HAP ID number but I doubt that they will issue it yet until they get some of the backlog out of the way. I have asked for theAOS letter but they won't give it to me so there is no chance that your Mum would get it as her lodgement date is much later. Your Mum will probably be given 28 days to get all her meds, police reports, AOS in place at the time of allocation to a case officer. The way things are going I think you have to be realistic and accept that the wait will be approaching 2 and a half years from lodgement. Frustrating and annoying but it will happen eventually.

Evening all, regarding the 143 permanent parent visa. Once the health and police checks have passed. What are the chances of the visa Not being granted. Just wondering if anyone has an idea.

Regards JJ

Hi JJ

Yes it's a worry as you get closer to assessment. If the meds and police reports are OK and everything OK with your sponsor to do AOS then logically there should not be a reason why you shouldn't be granted. That's what I keep telling myself but there is always a little worm of doubt.....the only reason I've heard for refusal is medical but I'm sure someone out there might have a better idea. The nearer the assessment date the more paranoid I get!

Hi Julie,

Great news they've moved forward another day. I believe the sponsor and the assurer can be two different people if necessary (and there can be more than one assurer too, if there's a problem for anyone). Can't wait for Friday's update now, or before perhaps :-) Not long for us now!!!! Yippee...

I only saw this post today, sorry. I'm sure you will be fine with the 2 October date. With the exchange rate being what it is, we have been discussing whether to rent for a couple of years, to give us a). the opportunity to check everywhere before deciding where to settle more permanently, and b). so the exchange rate will have time to improve. Remember, if you are worried about the rate and you are happy to wait, it is possible to open a GBP account in Australia so your money is with you there and then exchange when you are happy with the rate, just as it is possible to open an AUD account over here (UK).

Hi Amanda

Its a tricky decision, renting and waiting probably two years whilst the Brexit mess is sorted and hopefully the exchange rate improves or just getting on with life. The thought of waiting another two years plus for the exchange rate to improve is almost like waiting for another cpv! On the other hand we stand to loose a lot if we exchange this year. Damned if you do and damned if you don't! Let's hope the new chancellor has something up his sleeve for the Autumn statement that makes the exchange rate improve. Can't wait for this weeks update.....

Yes, I know what you meant about the loss of Dollars, we feel it's too much to lose, but who knows what will happen :-) Once in Aus though, I am going to just live and try not to play the waiting game for anything after these past 26 months (so far). It's been too much already. I tried the immi e-mail but I didn't get a reply, I'm not sure what's happened this time. Have a great evening!

Thanks Julie! If I've got all the necessary documents when she gets a CO, will the approval be fast? Or its a no one knows game?

Hi

good question. The best way to keep an eye on progress is to keep watching this site. There are several other applicants, Steve 2 and Geordie Joe who have also lodged in July 14. Steve and Joe post fairly regularly so you will get a good idea on how IMMI are progressing.

Hi we are just about to start an application and are wondering if it's best to use an agent already in Australia. Our son has spoken to them already on our behalf and it is looking as though it may be cheaper to use them because the English based Mara agent we were going to use makes all the Immi payments on their company credit card and charges 1.99% which obviously amounts to a lot of extra money to pay out. The Australian based agent seems to be saying we could pay Immi by a bank transfer without the credit card charge. Wondered if anyone else had any thoughts on this. It's such a minefield. We are looking at Immigration Down Under who are based in Australia , has anyone else used them by any chance. Thanks in advance if anyone can help

Hello Chittaway.

It is often best to pay the 1st Visa Application Charge by VISA or MasterCard as the total cost isn't too great - the additional c/card cost is only about $60.

For the main VACs payable immediately before visa grant we generally recommend paying by way of a bank draft (no additional costs then payable, beyond the cost of the draft).

A few of the specialist forex companies can arrange an A$ denominated bank draft for you from the UK, or you might transfer funds to your son (again, using one of the specialist firms is recommended) so he can arrange the bank draft using his local bank in Australia.

Feel able to contact me directly if you would like to discuss further - click on my name to the left of this post and send an email or a PM.

Hope this helps.

Hi Julie, thank you for the response. I was thinking that the medical and police checks were the two main obstacles. I did not realise you could ask for the HAP number thou. Great I will chase them up next year. As its only 11 months down the rocky road for us.

Keep your hopes high. ☺️??

With processing times being uncertain I recommend that you don't arrange your medical examination until requested by the PVC.

Otherwise you are at risk of having to undertake them again.

Best regards.

just a thought - it is possible to go through the whole process without an agent. It's a bit stressed but entirely do-able. We got loads of advice from people on here and there are booklets you can download from the au govt website. I must be entirely honest and admit that I was tearing my hair out for a short while, due to the stress of filling out 'form 80' with a time limit in place. We're I to do it all again, I would do the medicals and get the police clearance when asked for it and fill out form 80 way ahead of time, in small sections. The only thing that really held us up was the assurance of support which was down to the slow moving centrelink and totally out of our control. When we paid, we were in Australia so we got a bank cheque from our account at Westpac and paid it to Immigration via the billpay system of Australia post, in person at the post office. Had we not been in Australia, our daughter could have done this for us. I don't think this method of payment cost us anything apart from the bank charge for the cheque, and it is the method recommended by immigration themselves. Our daughter paid the first vac for us by credit card and we reimbursed her.

We have decided to move to Oz in December on a 12 month e600 visa ahead of our CPV 143 visa grant as others have done.

Will we need to buy health insurance to cover the waiting time ? if so what sort of cover would be required by immi ?

any help appreciated.

Yes, absolutely it is possible to progress an application without an agent being appointed.

But how much less stressful is it when you have a good one?!

Best regards.

Hi Alan. Yes I agree, very much less stressful I'm sure - money is an issue so we braved it out, but I should have given you credit for a couple of bits of advice you gave me gratis ... For which I was very grateful!!! When the time comes for tax advice you'll have our custom ... Braving out tax matters independently can be expensive, so we'll be hammering on your door when the time comes:-)

I have an e600 and am going out in November. I just booked ANZ travel insurance and this has been accepted.
