Hey guys,

I booked my tickets for October 11. Actually I am planning to go to Sydney at first to be with my friend as I dont know anyone in Perth. Its just for 10-12 days. I hope I can do that right? I am thinking of managing an accomodation in those 10-12 days in Sydney. Can anyone tell me can i do the medicare, TFN, opening bank account in Sydney or its better to do it in Perth after I land there ?

Thanks

Hiya

Last minute rush for us as we fly out this Saturday!

What about you?

WoW, bet your sooooooooooooo excited, tell me more...........

With us its been going well, We have paid for half for the dogs so they have there flight permit thingy and there crates are getting delivered to us some time this week...

The house is up on the market to LET, and been non stop at looking at flights (cheapest was from that IOM £515 each with Malaysian airlines) and places to live on the other side of the world, we also did a car-boot (Our first one, ever) last Sunday to get rid of bits and bobs and WHAT an experience that was, people opening my boxes for me, and buying stuff off me for about 50p then seeing them sell it on there stand for about £5 (cheeky buggers)

Also it was good to tell the boss im off, No love loss there...

And is it just me, when telling people that we have our visa granted and that we are off, they still seem surprised as if its the first time that you have told them, i have told loads and there like "what, your going, going to Australia" i wouldn't mind but i have been telling these people for the last 5 years that we want to go and as it was getting closer i kept them all up to date...

Guest surcharge

@thangvan

You said in a post: "Guys, all of my docs are met, just made 2nd instalment payment yesterday. How long does it take for them to grant a visa? please share your experiences "

My question is how to pay that fee? Dis you use Postbillpay? If so, how long did it take for the money to be debited to DIAC account?

Many thanks.

Hi May Gang, Another little update for you. Been here a week tomorrow, and all it's done is rain. Warm but rainy, bring coats and brollies, but it doesn't last long until the sun comes out to play. Still cool in the evening so jumpers/cardigans still needed inside these big houses. However at the w/end its changing to 28-31, plus it's a bank holiday on Monday. Perth's Royal show on from this w/end for 10days, so definatly worth a look. Had 2 rental viewing today, 1st ok, 2nd was a tip. and wanting $530 a week. So still looking. Hope evryones plans are going good and the few that are coming out soon good luck. Catch you down under!!

Just few mins ago I received refusal notice from CO saying my application is invalid. She said I don't fulfil the basic criteria and that I did work but not enough for an accountant. I'm in state of shock. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to proceed from here. Please guide me and tell me what do I do now?

Nishi I am so sad for you this is horrible news I think that you need to take advice from a Mara registered agent to see if you can appeal the decision on any grounds. would you be able to meet the new points test and launch a new application at all? good luck hun

I don't know if I can apply again or will they reject again. Somebody on this forum may be can guide me.

Hey Nishi

I think you will need a specialist to help you. Someone who is familiar with your field and can fully understand what aspects of your previous role the DIAC are not validating. There are a couple of agents who visit this forum who have experience with launching appeals. I will pm you.

Good luck

Hey May gang! I can't believe that we're actually in Melbourne! The weather has been great the past couple of days - let's hope it holds up. The flight over was downright brutal (flying to Australia is like flying to the moon!) but the 15 hour layover in Hong Kong helped break it up a bit. Upon arrival at the Melbourne Airport, we were greeted with a very, very long queue - it's too bad that PRs can't use the citizen queue. I had watched Border Security Australia so was fearing the worst - it wasn't that bad at all. The immigration officer didn't really say anything, then after getting the luggage, we had to queue up again and were directed to a series of different doors. Once we got to the door, we had to stand in a designated area while the sniffer dog checked us out. I got all nervous because I had ticked "no" to having food but wasn't sure if I had inadvertently packed a chocolate bar or something and if I would get in trouble for not having declared it! Anyway, the dog didn't detect anything on us but did pick out a few people out of the line who had undeclared food. I really need to stop watching that Border Security show! It's not as bad as it looks on TV!

We're staying in a lovely 1-bedroom apartment we found on Airbnb for the next couple of months - it has a view of an amusement park and of the beach! The two-month time period should give us enough time to find a more permanent place, hopefully in this suburb or a neighbouring one. Yesterday was spent applying for a TFN (can be done online, took less than 5 minutes), obtaining medicare (also very easy to do, although there was a bit of a queue so bring a book) and exploring the area and public transport system. Also got a prepaid SIM card for my crappy Nokia phone. The mobile phone companies seem to require a lot of documentation to apply for postpaid plans - passport, visa, medicare card, driver's license, bank statements, first born child, etc. - so we will probably have to wait until we have all that to sign up. Today we're doing bank accounts (we pre-registered for them online, just need to pick up the cards and such) and possibly driver's licenses as well since it seems to be a crucial piece of ID here.

Good luck to everyone planning their big moves! Can't wait to hear how you're all getting on. I'm loving it here so far - everyone is so friendly.

Good news NYC glad you got there safe- even with a break I find the flight a total killer. Sounds like you are already feeling great vibes. Feeling so frustrated as a friend of mine has just moved over - got her rental in two weeks and catching up with her pals and we cant get over until next year- and that may be for a validation trip only - just want to be getting on with our new life- however having done it in a rush last time we are not going to this time around. Big patient sigh!

well folks, we are here in Perth almost two weeks, both of us have started our jobs and that is going well, just looking forward to getting paid but i am waiting for a tax file number for the moment. We have been staying with a friend but signed a lease for our own 2 bed townhouse in Subiaco yesterday so moving into that tomorrow officially. We got furniture delivered yesterday and did a big shop in BigW for all our kitchen stuff etc, spent a fortune but nice to have it sorted and looking forward to getting settled in there. The sun is shining today and I'm wondering how will i survive it when its in full swing of summer but loving it for the moment, better than the rain last week walking to work, bought an umbrella yesterday as you never know when it might change!!!! If anyone else here and fancies meeting up let us know, would be great to meet you all very soon!!!!!

Hi Fergamy,

I've been a very silent but a regular member of this thread/forum. Congrats for your BIG move. We'll land in Perth on Friday Morning (05th October'12). Have already booked our rentals for the first four weeks in Wilson. There are just a few things which I wanted to confirm -

1) Were you allowed to carry any eatables (Spices, Noodles, Biscuits, Soups), of course all in sealed packages, since our Airlines (Thai Airways) has advised us to not to bring anything. As they say that eatables are not allowed in Australia.

2) Did you take some medicines with you (with prescriptions), for general ailments.

3) Any other last minute advise you would like toi give, which will help us in our journey.

Cheers,

Not too sure about the foods and spices, check out this link i think is the one which will tell you, http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/travel/entering-australia/cant-take

From watching nothing to declare at home the most important thing is to declare everything, we have tea, chocolate and a relish, all sealed and delacred it and was no problem.

Any other tips, well the jet lag hit us big time this time coming over, so try not to over sleep in the mornings and get into a routine asap,

also be prepared for how expensive it all is,

best of luck with your journey

I'm so so sorry to hear this, Nishi. At this time, the best thing will be to speak to a qualifies MARA agent to find out what your chances of appeal are.

I really hope this works out for you as I understand too well how disappointing this can be.

Hi Nishi

I know exactly how you feel, it happened to us as well. We got back on the program and have our visa now. Basically my OH was refused for lack of work experience and then I applied on my skill. Expensive thing but we got in in the end.

The good news for you is that EOI does not require experience rather it only helps for points. You have done IELTS and you have your skills assessment so you can do your EOI right now.

Sorry to hear that.

Are any of you guys nurses or in the med field?

if yes what is the starting salary for a newly qualified nurse in Oz?

Thinking of changing direction...

Hi there, the OH is a nurse and she is starting a job with silver-chain (out in the community) and i think she starts around the $28 an hour and she gets something else on top of her wage which makes it even higher (cant remember what its called) and shes only been qualified for 1 and a half years, so i would think more money for more experience...

Hi guys,

Well we have arrived! The flight was long and tiring but singapore airlines were great and the food was plentiful and very tasty!

We landed at 1am Perth time, got to the apartment and slept till 1pm in the afternoon! It's a bank holiday in Perth today so took a walk to shenton park shopping village, had a coffee in Lawleys, and did some basic food shopping. Then went for a walk in kings park which is just accross the road - beautiful. And to top it all, the weather is amazing today.

Jars should also be here by now. Meeting up with her and the family on Saturday. Hoping to meet up with Fergamy too - hint hint. Look forward to more of the May team arriving in due course.

Speak soon xx

Fergamy - Would be interested to hear more about Subiaco. I have booked my accommodation for jan and can't wait. Starting to sort through all my stuff now and wondering whats the dress code like for interviews bearing in mind that I will be arriving in the middle of summer. Will I bring a few suits?
