  2. Deffo  Will send you a PM with contact details - just ask if you need any help.
  3. You will love it here. Been here nearly 6 months. Best move we ever made!
  4. Hi May gang, So nice to see this thread is still going. Quite a few of us have been here a while now. Personally hubby and I love it. Nearly 6 months for us. We stayed in short term accomodation for the first 2 months In Shenton Park - very expensive but all bills were included. I managed to secure a job in week 2, hubby in week 4. Managed to get a better one after a month. Another "even better" one in the pipeline. So proves the jobs are out there! Have made some awesome friends - many from the may team (Fergamy, Jars, Shelly23, Ms Petite). Managed to get a rental fairly easily but gather this is not always the case. We are SOR near Vic Park. You have to be quick and get you applications in the same day if possible. Look forward to a future May Team BBQ - we had one in December. Another one is long overdue! Xx
  5. Welcome to Oz! Not sure who is over that side but sure someone will be in touch soon. X
  6. Hey, I've been here since 1 October and I'm in the city - but getting to Freo area is easy. Happy to meet up sometime if you fancy some adult conversation. Don't have any little ones though - she is all grown up now :-(
  7. Any May group who are already in Perth, please note there are a few of us meeting up today (Smithinoz, Jars, Fergamy, Shelly23, plus a March team adoptee) at Mitchell Park, South Perth between 12.30 and 1.00 ish. Bring your own BBQ stuff. Please feel free to join us.
  8. Cool - I will send you a message with my number. Text me when you get there.
  9. Hi guys. We have settled on Mitchell Park - south Perth if any of you guys can make it. Meeting between 12.30 - 1.00 ish. Currently Smithinoz, Jars, Shelly23 and Fergamy attending (11 peeps in total). Hope you can make it.
  10. Hey, We are looking at woodman point view in coogee for Sunday meet up. Meet from 1pm.
  11. No worries - you guys were all so helpful to the May gang! Speak later. X
  12. Should know a bit later today - just gathering info where people are located but could be South Perth Foreshore or somewhere near Bibra Lake as we seem to be scattered either in Perth or just SOR. Will post an update later - would be good to see you. We are going, Jars, Fergamy and Shelly23. Waiting to hear back from a couple of others too.
  13. I agree with the above. The 3 agencies I registered with were pretty useless. Applied for 2 jobs direct with firms and got offered both of them - go figure eh? I know there are some firms that only recruit through agencies, but worth keeping your options open. Buy the Western paper on a Saturday - has a good job section - where I found the jobs I was offered. Oh and gumtree too. Good luck.
  14. May team are having a meet up this coming Sunday (2nd Dec) somewhere near Perth, if any of you guys fancy joining us - I know lots of you helped us through the process.
  15. I have messaged Sh3p - I'm sure they are here now - lets hope they are free. We will have to arrange another "sausage sizzle" in the new year for any new arrivals. x
  16. Potential May gang meet up near Perth this coming Sunday - 2nd December - we are free, Shelly23 is free. Waiting to hear back from Fergamy and Jars. Anyone else about? X
  17. We found ours in victoria park area on the reiwa website. Also domain website. There are apps for the iPad too. From experience the landlords like people to move in quickly and it seems that they start advertising about a month before they need a tenant in. We had some viewings where we were the only people and others where 40 people walked through the door. My advice is to get the application in quickly. Have references from the uk scanned, ready to send with the application, with a covering letter why they would make good tenants. We were offered 2 properties on that basis.
  18. We didn't ship anything. Sold our stuff at car boots and on gum tree. When you get this end take a look at SuperAmart or fantastic furniture - they do start up packages. Similar to ikea but perfect to get you through the early months / years.
  19. Give oz rentals a try - I know a few people who have used them and been happy with accomodation and service. I think Tracey frequents this forum too. Good luck.
  20. Anyone coming over early / mid November? We may not need our short term rental after 11 November - paid for up to 1 December.
  21. Hi everyone, Been here just over a month now - feels like longer - in a nice way! I have had the pleasure of meeting up with Jars, Shelly23 and Fergamy - can't wait for the "official" May team meet up. xx

    Just arrived

Hey, Things seem to be really positive on the job front at the min. We arrived on 1st October. Started applying for jobs on the 5th and had a job by the 9th. Another thing to remember to do is apply for Medicare - the cards are currently taking 3 weeks to come through and you can't apply for your WA licence until you have it (as we found out). Our tax numbers came a week after we applied for them online. You also need to register your arrival with WA if on a state sponsored visa. Your 2 year commitment starts from then. Also get yourself a smart rider card. Can use it on the buses, trains and ferry. Family saver tickets are $11 and cover 2 adults and several kids (can't remember how many as we don't have any here). We do the family ticket if making several trips as its cheaper than single tickets and can be used all day long. We also used NAB - they applied for debit cards automatically for us. Mine has not arrived but hubby's arrived in 5 days. Cashback at the shops is free so use it where possible although there are plenty of NAB machines around. They also do an app for the iPhone so you can find the nearest machines etc. Our lady also set us up for Internet banking and then wrote us a list of things to do in and around Perth. Telstra have the best coverage so if you will be working remotely consider using them. (mobiles) All in all our first two weeks have been awesome. Xx
  23. So what's happening with the rest of the May team? Who is out here next? X
