  1. Hi all, my brother is an insulin dependent diabetic. He is coming to Australia on a working holiday visa. So the question is, is the cost of the insulin, needle tips and tester strips etc... covered under the reciprocal health agreement ? Any help would be hugely appreciated, finding it hard to get an answer.
  2. Hi all. Just looking for a bit of information for my brother. He is 30 turning 31 in july. I have been under the impression and after looking at the immi website that he must enter oz on a whv before he turns 31. He has been informed by visa agent and he rang immi in London, that once he has his whv granted he can enter Australia in september when he will be 31 and 2 months. Has anyone entered on a WHV this way? many thanks in advance

    Skills List

Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone has any infromation on changes to the skills on the skills list? I am hearing whispers of bricklaying returning to the list but cant find any information about it. Many thanks
  4. Hey all, I just have a quick question, i got my tfn when i came out to perth first on my whv, since getting my PR do i still use my original tfn or do i have to re apply for it? many thanks.
  5. Greed was the problem and having a short sighted, narrow minded and deceitful government only made it all worse. The new government are just as bad, the tax rates are a joke, my last pay check before we came out in Sept, in total I paid nearly 51% in different taxes. I just saw a photo on Facebook there of 58 brand new Audi A6s for the different government officials to get driven around for some EU summit that Ireland are holding. heres the link not too sure if it will work photo.php. It sickens me that none of the politicians or any of the bankers have been convicted of a crime. The rich and corrupt seem to always look after their own, while the poor get poorer.
  6. Majority of time its who you know for the mines. I saw an ad on gumtree the other day where a bloke was offering $2000 for anyone that would get him a job in the mines. Then again you can always get lucky with it.
  7. Its so hard to figure that out, but when we came over in Sept, we stayed with my mate until we got our own rental, so didn't have to pay rent for the first 2 weeks. We got an unfurnished apartment. I think we didn't see any change from about 12000 euros. We both started jobs within the first week but it was a month before I got paid and nearly 2 months before my OH got paid as she was waiting for her TFN and didn't want to do the higher tax rate. But I know of friends that came out with 4000, and got set up with a furnished rental a cheap car and got paid after his first week, so it all depends. Bring as much as you can, and you will make yourselves get by. Oh and don't forget that schools have their summer holidays at this time of year, I think its Feb before they start back. Hope this helps and the best of luck with it all.
  8. Painters in Perth get about $25 an hour. But if you are coming on your WHV you will do all kinds of work and one thing I would say is try stay in hostels at the start of a new city so you meet like minded folk and have a good time, enjoy all Australia has to offer. Work hard and save for a few months then travel for a few months then do your regional work for a 2nd year visa which is a great option and then travel again. Best of luck with it all mate.
  9. Biggest congrats there Roys, its such a nice feeling, and Perth is excellent,
  10. Now your sort of reply I was expecting, you stupid person, what a daft reply, if it was for humor then well you lack it. yeah there is a bad rep with the Irish folk here, but thats a small %, if you read my post you would have read that, in total i had 4 drinks,
  11. Maybe it was my Irish accent!!!! We said later that if we had gone to the Irish bar we would have no issues with being drunk, then again they might have had an issue with us being sober
  12. Oh it'll not ruin me going out again, I just won't be back to that bar, i did send them a lovely email! The thing is the security have to train to get their license, that annoys me no end,
  13. I'm going through the same issues myself at the moment, I am a carpenter, I do like my job, but I know that my body won't last with all the heavy lifting, exposure to natures elements and arthritis in the hands that is sure to get me, as it runs in my family. Its a tough decision. Best of luck with it.
  14. First off a very Happy New Year to all. So there we were, in a certain bar in Subaico, New Years Eve, celebrating with friends, us and 2 other couples. We had been out for a lovely dinner with one drink each. We ended up in this bar and had 3 more drinks, sitting in a quite corner having a great time, 10, 9, 8 etc.... the new year rang in, we gave our loved ones kisses etc... took some photos, I got a very nice security man to take a few photos of us all. 12.08 came and a security man and his 300lb meat head mate came over to me and asked me to go outside for a word. I knew what was coming. I went out my partner came after me, the security man told me he was kicking me out!!!! For being too drunk, I was shocked, I'd had 4 drinks, not even drunk. The rest of the group followed after us. I didn't get mad, i calmly asked the security man for his name and number, he gave me his name and declined to give me his number, so i asked him to take a photo of his id card, No was the answer followed by F%^k off, so I left it be. My aussie mates were going mad, especially the girl who had no even drank, well by mad they were embarrassed, they seemed to think that the security were bored and thought right theres a big bloke, we will throw him out and see if we can get a fight out of it. Another group of about 6 were thrown out after us, they were not even drunk either, but they had a hot head in their group who was going off at the security, not my style i like to talk. Then I saw the bar manager walking back to the bar, i explained the story to her, she was so annoyed with the security as i had spoken to her just before the bells struck 12, she knew we weren't drunk, she went and sorted it out with the security and came back to ask us back in, but we said no, she went back in came out with money to pay for our last round of drinks, and took us to the bar across the road and bought us a round of drinks there as well. The whole thing ruined but in the end made our night, thankfully we got to speak to the manager and thankfully she was a good hearted nice person. I'll be writing a letter of complaint to the bar but will be praising the manager and a letter to the security company. Not that any of it will do any good, but more to prove a point. Well there is my rant over with. Off to the beach now, my OH is in work so maybe a cheeky coffee down in cottesloe and a quick swim, lovely.
  15. Thanks Paul, yeah the mind is doing overtime at the moment, i'll staying on the tools for a while yet, am just trying to get an idea in my head for the future, as for the company i work for, well lets just say they don't plan or look to the future its all about the quick $, have a bunch of clowns running the show, and i really do think the company motto is "we pay peanuts" one of the construction supervisors has no construction experience just a ticket for the forklifts and i do half his job for him at the moment, right thats my moan over.
