  3. I arrived in Perth on my own in Jan this yr. I too was apprehensive about being on my own but I had secured a 3 week rental before I arrived in a 1 bed unit in Shenton Park which is in west Perth not too far from Claremont. The apartment was expensive but for me it was worth it. I felt so comfortable & safe in the complex. It was easy access to local shop (IGA) a few minutes walk or catch the bus (24, 25) in to the city. It takes time to recover from jet lag and also find ur way around. I had to adjust to the heat too but it will be cooler when u arrive in June. I started looking for a room in shared accommodation on Gumtree at the start of my second week and it took me till the very end of the 3rd week to secure a place that was actually liveable. The standard of in the city & suburbs is very mixed from student living (bare basics) to high end very expensive. Decide what ur budget is - if you will use public transport or drive to work & choose ur suburb. Have a look on the transperth - perth rail & bus network. There are some very nice areas in west perth http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:TransperthRailwayMap.svg

  19. Headin to Perth in Jan and have started doing a bit of research on the jobs market - contacting recruitment agencies. The general response is that because I don't have WA experience I will find it hard to get a job. I have 10 yrs experience in Local Government in Ireland in Landfills and env enforcement. How difficult is it to get in to the private industry? Anybody any similar experience or any ideas Thanks G

  23. In the process of booking my flight for 12 Jan 2013 from Ireland but wondering whats the best route Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and whats the best arrival time. Some flights arrive in Perth after midnight which I really don't fancy as I will be travelling alone. All help appreciated
  24. What is the best option for accommodation when I first arrive in Perth. I will be travelling alone (Female, mid 30's) and don't know anyone in Perth. Initially I was thinking of booking a hotel but don't know if I could stick a room for 2-3 weeks. Then was thinking of a hotel for 2-3 nites then mayb a self catering place for the rest. I will be looking for shared accommodation in an apartment or house so just wondering what the best option would be. What have others who traveled alone done.
