Irish Lass
Hi guys, fingers crossed that ye all get the visas soon. Im here on the Gold Coast near Brisbane with my aussie OH and 3yr old girl. Been here over 5 yrs originally from Cork. I didnt have to go through the house selling or moving furniture thank god, just me and my suitcase! Its fab here but i must admit it did take quite a while for me to settle. My OH is from Melbourne but we decided to go to the Gold Coast for a beach/laid back lifestyle. We didnt know a single person here and that made it hard to begin with. It was only since having my daughter that i got to meet other mums and felt a bit more settled. Also yearly trips back to Ireland got the homesickness out of my system pretty quick! It is tough at times being so far away from family, especially missing all the big events like births, weddings etc, and i'll never get used to christmas in the sun, but i wouldnt move back to Ireland in a fit. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say if anyone needs any help/info with anything id be happy to help. Anne

chrisandelaine
good to see you love it in perth, we are just waiting our 175 visa, we applied lasy AUG 2010, and just so so want to be in Perth, we have been looking into some where like jonduloop, or tapping etc etc. where abouts do you live and how easy is it to get a rental place for moving over, are the rentals dear ! starting to think will it be a wise move to move to a 176 sponsored visa as my wife is a Nurse. thanks chris and elaine Hey there great to see an Irish thread at last! Just thought I'd throw my twopence in and introduce myself.....we're a family of 5 and moved to Perth last March. People have been telling us we were lucky to get out when we did and it's really making it very real reading these threads. Won't say anymore but those bankers and politicians need a good boot where the sun don't shine! We used Pickfords to move our stuff and found them competitive and very good. We only took half a container as we were renting out our house and had to leave it furnished (who can sell at the moment!). To replace furniture/electricals can be expensive here and you really need to shop around but in the meantime you can do the round of garage sales and buy from the "gum tree" forum which is a bit like the buy and sell at home so I wouldn't worry too much about taking absolutely everything if you need to rent out your house - it may be cheaper to get a smaller container and just take the essentials! It's so good not to hear the word "recession" for the past 9 months! Plenty of work here and also plenty of sunshine - Perth is beautiful with lots of fab beaches. Kids defo having a better lifestyle and actually like going to school! Be glad to answer any questions if anybody wants info on Perth. Don't give up.....it's well worth the wait....... the coyne family
I'm afraid you cant swap a 175 for a 176 anymore, that is if you applied after the 1st of July 2010 so it would have to be a new application, hopefully you will here something soon as all the cat 2 should be allocated in the next few weeks, so you never know, best of luck. paddygunner
thanks, the best of it is we dont even know what cat we are !!!! how come you say we would be a cat 2 !!! i hope we are but really dont know. Check out whichever state you want to go to and see if nurse is on in demand list, if so I think you will be cat 2 You may have to get skills assessed again if existing assessment is over 12 months old. I'd say you would get 176 no problem Ours came through in 2 months once we received state sponsorship- cat 2 All the best pg
603304529
Lads, Just introducing myself. I'm an Aussie, married to a girl from Cork like. We have 2 little girls. We live in Dublin, and are probably moving to Brisbane in March/April next year. So if anyone is shipping stuff around that time, perhaps we can do a groupage? Wife's sister has applied for her 175 visa as well, but only 3 months ago, so it could be another 18 months before she gets it. Cheers... So I booked flights yesterday. We fly out, with Singapore Air, on the 5th March. Staying overnight in Singapore - just in Ambassador transit hotel, to get a bit of rest - and then onto Brisvegas. Mum and Dad have a rental house in the western suburbs, so will be living there til we find our feet, and our container. We're sending stuff with Careline hopefully. I have work when we arrive, so thats a big strain off. Hopefully the wife and kids will adjust and we can make a proper go of it. We've been in Ireland for 4 years now, and have saved some money, but no chance of promotion in work, and no way of buying a house in Dublin. So we're giving this a go. Bonus is I am moving home. Cheers.
paddygunner
Well done and good luck We are the opposite to you- never been to oz and don'y have any close friends or family to go to but making the move hopefully for a better life for family. oh and no jobs also!! We are flying out in June with Sing also so will be interested on how you get on. We are arriving in singapore airport am and flying out the next day pm so we are debating whether we will stay in transit hotel or go to a hotel nearer the city. Will there be enough for to keep 3 kids entertained for 24 hours in the transit hotel and airport? Were heading to Melbourne
the coyne family
thanks, the best of it is we dont even know what cat we are !!!! how come you say we would be a cat 2 !!! i hope we are but really dont know. Hi at the moment you are cat 3 as you are on the new SOL( HERES THE LINK.)http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/sol-schedule3.pdf According to DIAC Processing times – GSM applications affected by processing priorities 119 121 175 176 475 495 496 ENS/RSMS Service Standards See: Visas for migration to Australia – as a skilled sponsored worker or business person 12 months from date of lodgement Applications lodged prior to 1 July 2010: finalised by 31 December 2011. Applications lodged on or after 1 July 2010: finalised 18 to 24 months from date of lodgement. Assessment of cases will commence once all cases in priority groups 1–3 are finalized. Heres the link for the page. Client Service Charter If you were to put in a new application with state sponsorship from WA you would be in cat 2 as you are on the state list for WA. In that case its a 12 month wait from the date of lodgment. Because you have already been waiting 6 months its probably not worth putting in a new application as it would take too long. Hope this helps. Maria.

doglover
Hi everyone. Just joined the forum. I have just applied for my spouse visa and our family is hoping to head to Perth this summer. There's so much to think about and organise- schools, shipping, the dog- but I am looking forward to a bit of sun and the chance to try something new. Hi we're new to this forum too, just starting to get organised now, finding out info about visa's and so on. I noticed you mentioned the dog!! Im still trying to decide to mine or not, I know he'd love it there but thinking the flight is just so long and worried about dehydration and the heat in the cargo hold, just wondering your thoughts on this. Iv gotten quotes from 2 companies in Dublin that ship dogs to oz and I pretty happy with the prices they gave me but my little lad is pretty mini!! doglover
Hi everyone!! We're from Dublin and new to this forum. We're planning on settling on the Central Coast as we have family in the Gosford area, but it's not exactly the right area for us. Does anyone know where the best areas to live are, we were looking towards Bateau bay,Shelly beach,Long jetty, Forresters area and are open to any suggestions. Are these good, areas?? I've heard Gosford area hasn't a great reputation I've been there myself while visiting family and i found the area nothing special and noticed maybe a handful of dodgy looking people. I'm looking for the wow factor though!!! The dream is to be next to the beach!!!:yellow_guy_smiling_

Hi doglover, We've decided (for now) that we're not going to bring him He's a big dog and it would cost more to fly him out then ourseleves. It's so hard to know what is best for him and not just what we want. He'll stay with my dad where he stays for all our holidays so at least I know he'll be well looked after. But it's still a hard decision to make. How are the rest of your plans going?
