  1. I got our visa labels put into our passports when we arrived in October. It was free and took all of 5 mins at the emigration office in Perth. Someone else said that you have 3 months to change over. I think I needed to have a bank card as well when I applied.
  2. We're flying out on the 6th October! Mixture of butterflies and numbness and nerves. Happy days
  3. what about gumtree? They've a short term section in the real estate. We found a lovely rental there for our trip last feb and we'll hopefully be staying there again
  4. No answer sorry but I'd love to know this as well.
  5. That's something else to look forward to in Perth! Fireworks are illegal here too and I've never lit one. I'd be far too chicken (safety advertising really works on me!) The only fireworks I've lit are sparklers :cute:
  6. I wonder would it upset the neighbours if you did one in your own back garden :  I know Halloween has become a bit commercial and someone else mentioned America but really it predates all of that (well modern America). It's originally a pre Christian Celtic celebration. The games in our house are the ones my grandmother played. I just really love the whole tradition of it and of course it is the night where the worlds of the living and the dead cross over :witch-mask: Even if it's just the four of us we will be bobbing for apples and looking for the ring on October 31st in the sweltering heat instead of cold Ireland I will probably refrain form lighting any bonfires though, the BBQ will have to do instead
  7. I hope they do celebrate it. It'd be nice to keep up some traditions like the breac and the games the kids love playing. I suppose bonfires and fireworks might be out of the question?
  8. Hello, We're heading off as well. Same date as the Crosby family- 6th October. Hard to believe the time is almost here. I hope your application goes by smoothly.
  9. Hello Crosby family, Just sent you a PM  Are you all packed yet?
  10. Hi everyone, Another family Perth bound here. Just booked our flights and we're off on the 6th October. I can't believe it's so close to us going. I'm sure I've millions of things to do but can't think of a single thing today :goofy: I'd be interested in the travel insurance as well!
  11. got the 40kg!!:biglaugh: better get shopping for some extra suitcases! Thanks everyone
  12. Thanks sophie. I think that's why we have to pay the €35 extra each if we get it. I will not let up with this It makes a huge difference getting the 40kg
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I definitely will challenge it. Be nice if things were straightforward sigh Sophie does it mention anything about paying an extra charge? Maybe we get one because we are flying from Dublin first and not the UK
  14. Hi Sophie, They've said we can have 30kgs each as it does not say on our visa letter that we can stay indefinitely in Oz It says permanent residence alright but not it does not have the words "stay indefinitely" on it :arghh:
  15. This is the thing. She told me that I would have to book tickets, then contact them about the 40kg and then they would re-issue the tickets at a cost of €35 per person. It seems a bit mad to me. I won't have a stamp in my passport because I'm flying from Dublin. The lady rang me back today and said they normally only grant it to 175 and 176. Still not resolved but I am not giving up
