Hi guys I've been reading the last few pages of this thread ... We'll the last 7 pages ... And a lot of people with whom ahpra are taking along time with is diploma trained ... Just wondered what degree trained timelines are like ? I sent mine off on the 1/12/14 to the NSW Sydney branch

thanks in advance xx

It seems to vary considerably for different people, my wife has the degree and the Masters units for Nurse Prescribing and it took APHRA 8 months to issue the registration. It was quite frustrating and she nearly lost the job offer because they took so long.

And yes - do pester them. They are freaking useless at times. I emailed my person (for my transition from general registration) thrice asking them if they need anything more for my application. No answer - no out of office reply - nada - zip. I stay patient for a week after my third email and then call up. Nice (but very junior) person whom I have to explain the complexities of my application (they've recently removed my limited registration status and all links and forms for it on their website meaning that they can't remember how to deal with them). Solution to not hearing from him: send him another email. I politely but firmly at that point asked how it would be any different this time around. I was then passed on to my man's supervisor who accepted that he should be answering emails (good!) but he hadn't been and my file had just been gathering dust for the last month or so.

Cue promises from them to deal with the next stage immediately (which they did) and my file was sent to the AMC pronto.

Then when I had to add the AMC letter to my application, I was told by the person who was asleep on my file for a month, that my supervisor's report was quite some time in the past (now 3 months due to them doing nothing with my file!) so I may need a new one. I don't tend to lose the plot and once again failed to stand up for myself, smiled, said that's fine and walked away. Thankfully they didn't request it and then let me sail through with no further issues.

Hi all, we're just in the early stages of applying for our visa and was wondering when you apply to ANMAC do they send you a specific checklist of documents to be certified? Also can they be done with one certification if you catch my drift instead of individually?

Hi joe and Carrie. In regards to ANMAC, yes I recall having a tick box sheet with lots of information that you need to send and it gives you information on what needs to be certified. I can't quite recall if I downloaded it or whether ANMAC sent it to me. (I think ANMAC send it after you had done your initial application) But is a couple of sides of A4. In regards to certifying documents, each one needs to be certified individually. I had mine done in a local court with a JOP. I had to do mine in front of a full court, so brace yourself for that, I certainly wasn't expecting it, it's not a day I will forget! Ha! The process was all straight forward really, the only thing that I had to resend was my reference from my employer, mine did not contain enough information about day to day tasks e.g obs, dressings, medication adminstration basically everything that's a given and would not usually go in a reference.

Hope this makes sense and has been of some help

  • 2 weeks later...

I tweeted them and emailed. The tweet and the email state diff total amount of hours (tweet 456, email 480) but I would go with the larger to be sure. Don't want to miss out for the sake of 24 hours. Also It states the equivalent of 3 months work, I had hoped to do some extra shifts as to speed up the process but it has to be done over a minimum of 3 months xx will dig out screen shots once I'm home for u x

Hello everyone,

I posted this earlier in jobs and careers but no response, perhaps I posted in the wrong place so would be grateful for any input on this query:

I am looking for some advice please, or if any one can point me in the right direction of a post which outlines the required steps in order to get started ( I saw one but of course can't find it now) to apply for going to Oz to do MH nursing.

Here is a summary of my situation:

I am 32 - I have a degree in mental health nursing and have been qualified for 18 months. I currently work in Forensics, but have some addictions experience as well.

I think I am eligible for skilled migration, however find the migration website rather confusing.

I am aware that we need to register for our equivalent of our NMC, Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC)from what I gather from their form I need to have a Visa in place though before I can apply - is this correct?

I keep reading that if you have secondary education you don't need to do the language test, but I am assuming people do to gain further points?

I am also aware of Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) this is to have your skills validated - when should this part of the process be applied for?

My head is full of abbreviations and I'm getting a bit confused :wacko:however keen to start however unsure of correct order of process, so any advice is most appreciated. I have considered calling an immigration agency, however the costs seem a bit eye watering! Thanks for reading.

Hi Gayle yes it's all very confusing.

Firstly ANMAC are the ones who will do your skills assessment for the purpose of your visa. AHPRA are the equivalent of the NMC and are who you register with to work in Oz, that fact that you have a degree means that you shouldn't have to many problems with that, as the rules changed last year and if you don't have a degree it is near impossible to get a registration. there are a couple of ways you can go about things, 1. do your skills assessment with ANMAC and then apply for a full permanent residency visa. You can then apply for AHPRA after and start looking for a job once that has come through. Or 2. you could apply to AHPRA and get your registration in hand and then look for a job that will sponsor you. I was confused by it all so did the AHPRA Registration first got a job offer with 457 sponsorship and came over that way, I have now completed ANMAC and are going for permenant residency that way. You only need the ANMAC skills assessment for the permenant resi visa so if you can get 457 sponsored and get over here it is much easier and cheaper to organise at this end. IMO

hope that helps a little and I wish you good luck with it all.

Gayle I am 32 and have 3 months work experience as a degree registered MH nurse. If you can get your visa application in before you turn 33 I think you will have the same 65 points I will have.

I have sent AHPRA and ANMAC applications at the same time. Though I would focus on ANMAC first and then a few days later do the AHPRA application. Get everything certified at the same time as if you go to your local magistrates court it's usually a one off fee for everything. Then if I forgot anything I go to my local solicitors who charge £5 per document.

Also what slowed me down was NMC, so email their verifications team today asking for a verification form to be sent to you. This info is on the NMC website. They are so slow at sending this and then processing it when they receive it. They messed me about and I have spent 3 months with them wasting my time. When you get the form make sure you state you want the verification form sending to ANMAC and AHPRA. I only put AHPRA initially and when I called (same day as posting) to see if they could add ANMAC they refused and said it would cost me an additional £34.

Good Luck!

Hi All,

Thank you very much for your replies. I finally feel like I have an action plan and a wee bit of clarity!

I have decided to go down the AHPRA Registration first, and then go for a 457 visa. I emailed the NMC a few days ago for a verification pack, so hopefully that will be en route. Thanks for the advice though RE the NMC Jac. Can't say that I am surprised though as they generally do what they want!!

So hopefully and fingers crossed I can get APHRA done well before I am 33, which is in October.

Many thanks again for your replies.

Gayle

Is this for the ANMAC skills assessment or AHPRA? I was under the impression it was 3 months of at least 32 hour weeks (for ANMAC).

Cheers

Hi, can anyone advise if AHPRA will accept your work pass for nhs as part of your identify documents. I don't have the photocard for my driving license so I have my passport, paper part of license, bank statement, council tax letter and work badge to send to them. Any advise would be great. Thanks Lisa
