PontePom Posted April 1, 2013 Share Posted April 1, 2013 For me its very hard to explain in words as I was so happy in the UK But for me I feel like my life as been fulfilled by moving here like it was my destiny? Might sound strange but my Dad was born in Australia so I always had an urge to go to Australia and now living here as made my life complete I have so many great memories of the UK I have so few of living in Australia for only 3 years But I'm sure things will change and I'm looking forward to having many more years here I know so many have gone back to the UK but lets try and keep this thread for those who are still living in Australia and their views on how they feel Good and bad as Australia is not perfect Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That you can use the school grounds outside of school hours. Being able to buy a block of land and build a house to have a layout that I want straight away, rather than buying one and altering it. Being near my OH's family. Being able to wear summer dresses in summer without needing a cardigan (has to be 25C plus for me to even consider a summer dress without a cardigan.) Outdoor pools. Free BBQs in the parks. Being able to see the sea from parts of the area I live in, despite being a 45 minute drive away (probably specific to Adelaide, and certain areas of Adelaide, that one). I have been in Oz since I was a little fella, around 40 years now. Most things I love about Oz, I really don't get to see, do or enjoy anymore. I've either grown up, the novelty has worn off, or things that were once affordable no longer are. When I was in the UK I missed stupid things really.. the landscape of the country, the sound of the birds in the morning and at dusk, my genuine mates here in Oz that I have grown up with. That's really about it. After 40 years in Oz, everything is just the same old same old, but getting more expensive to buy or enjoy. I do love it though in Oz, it's looked after me well. I just don't enjoy the things I used to because I just don't have time any more, or don't have the inclination. Not hating, I love both the UK and Oz for different reasons. A few weeks ago I went on a work "tour" for 6 days......when I returned home I realised that I had not locked my front door.....my unit had not been burgled,everything was intact.......maybe we have lazy thieves ??? :wink: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Paul1Perth Posted April 2, 2013 Share Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) Being close to a beach and a City, Feeling of space, Being able to sit in the back garden at night and feel warm, Blue skies, Sea that looks and is clean, Long swims in the sea, Availability and cheapness of lots of sporting activities, weather that lets you do them all year round, Friends with same interests, Outdoor pools a plenty and not expensive to use, No "sessions" in the pools, stay as long as you like, The feeling you can plan a trip say 500Km and know it's going to take about 5 Hrs, Not feeling the need to get away on holiday for a fix of sun and sand, How clean, tidy and modern Perth looks and the spectacular views of it when driving in on the freeway or from the hills. There are places in both countries where this applies and not. We don't have a garage here and often leave the cars unlocked. Leave stuff out the front and no-one touches it (bikes, surfboards, tools, whatever). We see houses with boats out the front, surf skis, paddles. Where we lived in the UK my wife had 2 cars stolen in the space of 6 months. One from outside the house, one form work (in Moss Side) both weeks old, never heard anything about them again. The first one that got stolen had the wheels and babies pram stolen from it 2 weeks before the whole car went. Must have cost the insurance a fortune. There was no way we would have left anything laying around where we lived in the UK. I can think of places that would be safe though.
