  1. You should absolutely access the Mental Health plan to get CBT or other psychological support. Accessing it will not compromise your eventual application for PR. Not dealing properly with any health problems, including mental health issues, however, might. Good luck Jon (B'ground: English Dr, previously on 457 now PR)
  2. Hi, I moved out here almost three years ago an now live in Noosaville, working at Nambour Hospital. Noosa is a very beautiful place. If anyone would like advice or pointers about the area including house buying/areas to look please let me know/PM me. Its currently 25 degrees with endless blue skys in the last month of winter.!
  3. Just an update. I lodged mine in early January. After 60 minutes on hold, I got a direct line number for NSW and was told they are up to late march and that mine had been "overlooked". So if anyone else out there waiting an unfeasibly long time, it may be worth persevering with your enquiries to make sure there hasnt been a glitch in the system. Obviously if you have an MA its unlikely that you'll need to do this
  4. Reading through this thread concerns me a little. I applied for my visa on the 13th January and have heard nothing yet. Nomination already finalised. Medicals done months ago. All documents uploaded. Says "Assessment in progress" & "processing" on the website whatever that means. NSW office. Profession: Doctor. Anyone else waited this long?
  5. Yes, absolutely, definitely. Get yourself to Charles Tyrrwhitt immediately.
  6. Hi, were also in the area at Marcus beach. Would be keen on a meet up sometime. Jon (44), Julie (37)
  7. Sunshine (sometimes), balmy evenings, ocean swimming, outdoor pools, lorrikeets, kangaroos, little creatures ( the beer), friendliness, scuba diving, plastic money, cycle lanes, eucalyptus, Fraser island, squeeky sand, camping, tree frogs, starry nights, wilderness, prawns, Sydney...........
  8. Seeing as you ask. I'm a Dr. Have worked in the NHS and in Australia. One has 1000+ day waiting lists, great health inequalities and staggering inefficiencies. The other is in the UK. As for the NHS being better 20 years ago when I stated working in it? Dont make me laugh. Keep reading the Daily Mail.
  9. What a complete non-story. Of course hospitals have press officers. Sometimes Journalists p**s me right off. You wanna see waste in a public health service? Look further than the NHS......
  10. Great trip. Have done it in crap camper. Definitely the coast road to Sydney. Don't miss the campsites at Jervis bay. North of Sydney stop at seal rocks, Byron. Scoot past gold coast. Visit north stradbrooke with camper, moreton without. Sunshine coast is lovely, visit noosa. North to Hervey bay, leave camper and take a tour on Fraser island. North to Bundaberg, consider lady Elliot island. You can't take a camper van to great keppel island. Park in yeppoon. North to the Whitsundays and a kayak adventure with salty dog kayaks. Have fun.
  11. Have a great time and wonderful adventure. London is a great city which you will love. You are definitely entitled to NHS care. Oh, and despite what you may glean from a post earlier on, most Brits are friendly and welcoming rather than a***holes.
  12. Bad doctor!! Having opinions and engaging in human conversation with his patients. Must get him struck off.
  13. Calgary vs London. Mm. Interesting comparison. When it comes to skiing I definitely prefer Chamonix over Cape town. Loads of theatre, history, arts, architecture in Calgary. Er...
  14. Ahh. I'll tell my brother and his wife then. 30 something, high credit rating, told by bank that no mortgage unless he has at least 25% deposit. I expect they were lying. Next time I"all tell him to come on here for sound financial advice and an overview of the economy.
  15. My _________* is better than your _________* so there. Ner, ner, ner, nerrr, ner!! * insert storm/weather/life/country/beer/drought/ here ** ** or anything else you fancy
  16. Oops, quoted the wrong post. I'll try again. P.S. On a 457 visa
  17. You are 26 and 28. Go for it even if just for the experience. There is not that much to lose and, in 30 years, stuck in the drudgery of mortages etc you will always think "what if?" Conflict of interest? Took 8 months off to travel the world at 27, five months at 35 and emigrated at 43. All a financial, professional and personal risk but havent regretted any of them. Good luck and have great fun!!
  18. Excited you must be, Obi Wan. Try Stayz.com.au, zincnoosa.com.au and gumtree.com.au Zinc have a nice basic apartment at Sunrise Beach called aptly seaview or something which works out really economically and is centrally located to explore North and South. PM me for more details if you need. We are moving from Maroochydore to Marcus Beach just south of Sunrise. Lovely area.
  19. Applied for a couple of jobs in strip clubs. Still waiting to here back. Should I worry the interviews were in 1998?
  20. My local sex shop looks like its in trouble. Windows blacked out, curtain across the door, men coming and going wearing Macs. I blame the internet
  21. Er... Currys is still open. In fact its parent company, dixons, made record profits last year. But don't let facts ruin a good story
  22. When I lived in the UK, I had a castle, drove a Bugatti and ate swan. Now I'm in Australia I live on a private island, drive a platinum ute and eat platypus. Or is it the other way round? I love/hate Austrengland
  23. Leave them alone. You're many 1000s of times more likely to die of a. a car crash on the way to the beach b. skin cancer c. diabetes, heart disease etc from staying sat in your chair Coming to Australia and not swimming in the sea?? I dont get it. Like moving to the Alps and not skiing
  24. jonmitch

    Worth the risk?

Mid-twenties. The only risk is that you may have far good a time! Just make sure you set aside enough time to travel on the way, while you're here and on the way back. You're a long time dead.
