  1. i really would, and have tried. i wont go the way of marry for visa, and for skilled migration (or sponsership) i dont have enough points with my two degrees. so i cant, i have tried.
  2. yes its pretty messed up. 10 years and multiple visa lawyers later still nothing. im only going to share this as this type of thing happens quite regularly but no one in oz seems to have any idea. ill remind you that i only carry a uk passport, yet have never lived in the uk. and i was born in hong kong, which was uk occupied at the time. I came on a buisness visa, which failed to make the allocated profit required in the first year for PR (by $200, but no exceptions), buisness folded and i went on a student visa for undergrad and postgrad degrees to build up skilled migration points for PR, the year I graduated the rules changed and they no longer accepted my skill unless sponsered, tried in brisbane but didnt work, meanwhile my dad became fatally ill and to keep him here (albeit without oz medicare) i applied for a medical visa for him, it was granted and i was his carer, then he passed late last year, thus im leaving.
  3. I hadnt even thought of that, thanks! And I did try for residency, never study an arts degree at uni even if its a masters, as the oz government dont really want writers. lesson learned meanwhile my biomed brother got his citizenship last year!
  4. only as a tourist. Im hoping the UK/Europe will work out, one way or another
  5. That was directed to kungfustu, but honestly thanks to the rest who had proper advice. I'll be looking into it
  6. Wait, so I'm not entitled to health care even though I'm a uk citizen? And its the only passport I hold? And when did I be home a lad? And I don't need money from the government as I have enough money to support myself from years of work? The health insurance is just a safety precaution in case I get bottled by a chav like you.......
  7. Hello all, Im 26 and a UK passport holder. I have never lived in the UK, as I was born and raised as an expat in Hong Kong, moved to Australia about 10 years ago with my parents (although never got the oz residency...... don't ask.....) and now as my British dad has just passed away, I want to move to the UK to trace back our roots. And for a change I guess, it's difficult to be here without him. Thus far I have bought a one way ticket (to Paris, as I can stay with a friend of mine while I find my feet) for May, and I will be travelling on my UK passport.I have been to England a number of times, but never lived anywhere but HK and oz. I wont officially be setting foot in the UK until August, but as I will be in Europe from May I was looking at getting my EHIC. Then I realised before this, I would need my NHS card. For which I need a NI number. Which I cant figure out how to obtain as I don't have a residential address in the UK. Because I don't have a residential UK address, am I doomed to have no health insurance in Europe until I get to England in August? Or shall I ask my Uncle and Aunt to use their address (in the UK) for correspondence? Does anyone have any idea what I should do? Any advice wold be appreciated I am having so many issues moving to a 'new' country, although I'm a citizen I'm actually excited too. Has anyone moved to the UK being a passport holder, but having never lived there before? Thank you!
