  1. Hi Scotexpat do you deal with vacncies in Brisbane? Thanks Nicola
  2. You'll never know unless you try. Surely its best to try and not work than forever wondering what if?
  3. That may be ok then but you prob need to check with APHRA. Just out of curiosity why didnt you register with them when you got positive kills assessment? I know as an RGN Im doing ANMAC but will shortly sort AHPRA too. I know they need you to present at one of their offices within a year of initial registration bit like visa requirement Nicola
  4. She can go as 'defacto partner' depending on how long youve been together, usually need to have lived together for a year, need to prove it, its on the immi.gov.au site the requirements needed Nicola
  5. Hi when you say you have activated your visa and according to your timeline have a positive skills assessment is that in your partners name? Or is it you have positive skills and not registered with APHRA? Nicola
  6. Not much help I guess but Im trying to sort budget without expecting benefits then anything I do get will be a bonus!
  7. I will be unlikley to have a job to go to as I want to check out schools first so our rental will be based on catchment areas. Im a nurse and hoping there will be something! scary thought but fingers crossed! Good luck x
  8. Can I be cheeky and have a copy too? Just going through ANMAC and about to do APHRA Thanks Nicola. PM me. Many Thanks x
  9. I dont 'like' that you are a single parent but I like the fact its doable on one income as Im coming over as a single parent!
  10. Mine was Sunderland Magistrates but had to phone a different number to pay the £25 Ive done it twice now but the second time they didnt even ask for payment reference so could of probably just walked in and not paid! I havent had to have appt, just turn up at 930 before court starts. Seems so variable though which is wrong surely it shoud be standard
  11. Okay firstly apologies as the answer is there somewhere but struggling to get my head round the education system. My son is currently in final year of GCSEs and we hope to get to Oz Sept this year. He will turn 17 on Jan 1st. 1. Can he wait till start of new school or is he best getting a place asap? 2. If he started school asap would he go into year 11 or would he be expected to repeat end of year 10? 3. Am I right in thinking he will be studying 5-6 subjects only? Hes quite academic and hoping for Uni and I am of belief that school would be better than TAFE for this? Were hoping to head to Brisbane area Thanks Nicola
  12. Best to try and 'fail' than not try at all.
  13. I would check out downunderlive.co.uk for dates of expos as these are useful to find out a host of things you will have chance to speak to migration agents who will assess what type visa is best for you. Also check out immi.gov.au to see if your occupation is on the skills list. I get a monthly magazine from WHSmiths 'Australia and New Zealand' that also gives useful info. Good luck
  14. Any chance you could apply PR even may take a while and have to pay but maybe a little light at end of tunnel?
  15. You may be able to sign a statuatory declaration with a notarised person? Im having to do similar for nursing, obviously different but same outcome?
  16. You are more than likely the exception crackerjack. However why should I have to ask my ex who hasnt seen his child for 15 years, made me go through DNA testing to be awkward, done as you say no cards contact etc etc for his consent to take the child that Ive raised and had to answer why his dad dosent want him out of the country for a better life? Each case is individual so dont be quick to criticise. I would have given my right arm over the last 16 years for him to show interest in our son but unfortunately the justice system you criticise also will not force the absent parent to be take parental responsibility emotionally physically financially or in any other way
  17. Hi check out downunderlive.co.uk as they have exhibitions around country which are worth going to for info on a whole host of subjects, also a good monthly magazine Australia and New Zealand is out monthly available from WHSmiths. So far Im doing mine on my own to save fees.

    Ietls

Only the reading part is multople choice but believe you me its not as easy as it seams, the first few are then it gets more difficult. The writing part is 2 essays, the listening is a tape recording of a conversation that you get answers from and then the speaking. The speaking is just an examiner asking basic questions like lifestyle or tv preferences. remember if doing IELTS for ANMAC you need the academic version.

Hi Nursejules, I used the Cambridge Ielts. The main thing I practiced was writing essays. It also gives you a chance to understand the format of the exam. yes you cant revise as such but you can familiarise yourself with what is expected. Its a surreal experience and being English I would imagine you get at least 7s no bother. My scores improved the more I practiced, I also got some books from the library. Good luck Nic x
  20. Although I cant offer any advice Im interested in repsonses as I too have a son with an absent father. My son is 16 and hasnt had contact since he was a year old though I do get CSA payments. Im sure someone told me that as my son is 16 we just have to go to a solicitor as my son can make decision himself, heres hoping but prob need to get sorted asap as hoping to go in Aug/Sept this year. Nicola
  21. I guess it depends on the points you have as once you hit a certain age not sure if its 45 or 50 (know its 45 for nursing) you dont get any points at all. Best to check http://www.immi.gov.au could also speak to an agent? Good luck Nicola
  22. Hi Im a nurse with 18 post reg experience mainly community. Im going down PR route as more stable than 457. It takes longer and is more expensive initially but as I have a 16yr old who will be attending Uni (hopefully) not long after we get there then this is the route for me. You need to register with APHRA as a nurse regardless of what visa you go for. As Im applying for PR I need to have skills assessed via ANMAC (check their website too) however for 457 visa only need APHRA but bear in mind you may need ANMAC later if decide on PR. So I guess really decide on 1. type of visa http://www.immi.gov.au'>http://www.immi.gov.au 2. check aphra http://www.ahpra.gov.au'>http://www.ahpra.gov.au 3. check anmac http://www.anmac.org.au Depending on type of visa you may need to sit IELTS the dreaded English exam! However I guess first and foremost you need to check if they will allow hubby with criminal record as not sure re this. Most immigration agents will give telephoen advice free. You dont necessarily need to pay for one as several of us are going throughout process without one however if your case is complicated it may be worthwhile. I also buy a amagazine every month Australia and New Zealand from WHSmiths which is full of useful info. There are also regular exhibitions throughout UK to offer advice check out http://www.getmedownunder.com Good luck and shout if you need any more help Nicola x
  23. My latest from Anmac 1.'NMC verification has been received by the expiry date is O ctober 2012- so it is already out of date- could you request they send an up to date verification again please. '. NMC want further £34 for this! 2. 'Graduate certificate obtained from Bede College of Nursing (identified on transcript)- IT IS NOT YOUR ENB CERTIFICATE that you sent' what do they want??? 3. I sent a professional reference for current post which Ive been in for 6 year and statement of services covering the 17 years Ive been qualified in order for extra points, however ANMAC state they require professional references covering last 10 year in order to gain extra points I now cant log onto Anmac site and it wont recognise my email! Very frustrated, any advice gladly welcomed
