  1. I agree. He should get his £2 back. No way should he get £40,000 for chancing his arm.
  2. Nope, it's clearly FIVE and rules are rules. Sure what's to stop people scratching the ink off cards in the future ....its a printing mistake and there's probably some rule in lottery small print that a winning card is based its system number.
  3. Your agent is quite correct, to achieve PR you are reliant on your employer to provide that since you have no qualifications and cannot obtain a skills assessment. Unfortunately this is the downside of the 457 visa, sometimes people are taken advantage of because they believe the End Justifies the means so you have to be careful. I am not saying this is the case for your employer as it works out for some.... but like I said you should be careful all the same. Plan to fail.... that way you wont be too disappointed. If it all works out with PR think of it as a bonus.
  4. You would be safer leaving the country of your own accord rather than removed in handcuffs.
  5. Careful now, you might upset some of these 'Migrants'. After all according to some they are far superior than those of us who are PR and citizens.
  6. You don't get a bridging visa unless you lodge an actual application i.e. apply and pay application fee after an invite, EOI is nothing but an expression of interest.
  7. Brendan O'Connor said it was 10% were not genuine, many self serving dismissed that figure but I reckon it was at least 10%. As for 90% I am giving the benefit of the doubt as legit, but to be honest on this thread we hear of 'highly skilled' what about lower skilled (as opposed to 10% unskilled) . Not every occupation on the CSOL is 'highly skilled' the whole thing has turned to a bit of shambles. Maybe they should set the TSMIT to $80K, It will help focus on high skills rather than finding a cheapie.
  8. You make some good points, I was a former 457 visa holder but this is why I am so vocal about it... there are some employers and employees rorting the system.... it is silly to argue that it's not happening. It just annoys me that the program is compromised like this. Sure 90% are genuine but it's those 10% that are not is what's the question here. It's not hypocrisy it's just common sense. The point I was making is there is for majority of occupations there is NO skills assessment, this is what opens the program for abuse. Unskilled People desperately wanting PR are prepared to be exploited to get there, this under cuts unskilled locals. Breaking the link of 457 transition to PR without the skills assessment removes the claws for some of the abuse, if people know they still need a skills assessment to get PR they won't be afraid to rock the boat on dodgy employers as there is no reason to keep quiet. The other point I was making was in regards to Jack13 comments about people on the dole, it's just a strawman argument.
  9. I did say 10% You could easily be in 90% who are genuine, who knows.
  10. Also add to that there is no requirement to have any skills assessment or qualifications, a creative CV dating back 5 years and maybe a reference on some headed paper from your 'uncle' is good enough. The 457 has it's place and use, to temporarily fill skill gaps. It's the link to PR without skills a assessment which is the travesty..... do away with the transition stream and you are removing the rorting stick from the employers hand. The only ones who argue otherwise are those party to it or making money from it. Those who 90% 457 who are genuinely skilled can always obtain a skills assessment and apply directly for PR.
  11. Where did I say Australians didn't want to do those jobs? I didn't say that. What I said was foreigners are prepared to do it for less money as a trade off to get PR, doesn't make them better at the job just cheaper.
  12. As do I, my great aunt Imelda was always known as Aunt Imelda. But I wouldn't be stupid enough to claim it was my Aunt in an official context such as immigration.
  13. Handouts or Aid? Nah it's protection money and that's why we haven't had any bombs in Australia like Spain or the UK... $700b in fact
  14. A lot are not highly skilled or qualified, they are just prepared to do crap jobs for less money than Aussies because its a possible route to PR. Sure in the job contract and visa paperwork its says they are going be getting X when in reality its all show for the visa and they work for less than the TSMIT. For some people who dont have the qualifications to get PR going the route with no real skills assessment is their only way even if the are working for a pittance very few rock the boat. Why do you Immigration can now link into the ATO to check actually how much 457ers are being paid? as for flipping burgers they actually removed Cafe and Fastfood business from the 457 1st July 2013... now ask yourself why did they do that? I often laugh at cheap throw away lines like this, there will always be a certain % of dole bludgers. 457 visas dont affect dole bludgers, you just cant squeeze blood from a stone. But it does make me laugh ....some people who have no hope of obtaining PR/Migration often spew this kind of rubbish in some attempt to justify why they should get a foot in through the door, the just want to reduce everyone else to their value. If you truely are a gun at what you do then you will be snapped up easy on a 457 its that simple.... its just childish to rubbish locals because they have more of a natural right to work and live in Australia than you do. Its just sour grapes.
  15. Great to hear VS, if you are some what a success it can be a great place but if you are only 2nd rate I imagine it's the same as everywhere else and pretty ordinary.
  16. Why doesn't he just apply for PR visa rather than stuff around on 457 work permits.
  17. Surely your husband would know the date and place of birth of his ex, his son and possibly step daughter. Maybe supply a stat deceleration that he is no longer in contact with these people so unable to supply passport numbers.
  18. Immigration can now check the ATO to see how much Temporary visa holders are really being paid as previously employers/employees sometimes agreed just to put TSMIT in the contract and visa paper work to get the visa through but the understanding they will be really paid a lot less. That's where the whole 457 visa rorting stemmed from.
  19. 1 year, you have a year to activate it and then it's valid for a year from that date.
  20. They could also tip in 2% of their payroll to an industry training fund
  21. You can leave when ever you want (subject to notice period at you your current employer I imagine) you just can't work for the new employer until the nomination has been approved and you can't work for anyone else in the meantime.
  22. And at least 3 years post-qualification work experience in your nominating occupation.
  23. 457 would work like it was designed for if they removed the transition to PR without needing a skills assessment, taking away the easy route to PR would remove the abuse as employers wouldn't have the same strangle hold on people wanting to keep their head down and do their 2 years in an attempt to hopefully secure PR. The 457 has it's place as a quick gap filler, sure people could still use it as try-out visa before they commit to applying for PR, it would be fair to maybe allow 5 points towards a skilled visa for time worked on 457 but they still would just apply for skilled PR like everyone else.
