  1. Hi jj Many thanks for the post. I think we're just have to go and roll with it. I spoke to the employer last night and they would have considered the 187 route, however, the timescales of arranging one would go against me now. So, it looks like the 457 all the way!! Although, the employer did say that he would speak to the migration agent to pass on my comments and concerns. I'll let you know when I hear anything. Also, Merry Christmas everyone.................
  2. Totally agree, and that's my way of thinking about all of this. I would rather try it and it maybe wont work out, but at least I(we) will have tried it.... Anyway, they'll be ringing in 30mins so i'll see what they have to say about everything. Will let you know. G
  3. They're really up for it as its like one big adventure for them. This is something that I've always wanted to do, and the thing that people keep reminding me is "if you don't try it - you'll always regret it". Worst case scenario is we just return home (we're renting our house out etc). All the best to you too.
  4. Hi Kezzles / Ozmaniac Many thanks for your posts. Kezzles - We'd be going straight onto a 457 as it would be a new employer, we'd then have to hope for PR after the 2 years etc. My current employer has offices there, but that didn't come to anything, hence the reason I had to look elsewhere. I'd feel more comfortable if I was going out on a 457 with my current employer as you'll know the ropes, but its not going to be this for me. As you say, I know its a risk, we'll see how it goes. All the very best with your situation. Ozmaniac - Its a fair point, however, we have that covered. My new employer is paying for the kids (x2) schooling until we get PR and we're aware that we wont get any access to benefits until then either. Thanks for highlighting this though. I'm speaking to them tonight and I will be discussing the 187 option. Cheers for now.
  5. Speaking to the new employer either today or tomorrow.
  6. Hi Yeah, I bet it's stressful!! I'll continue to look into the alternative visa while I wait on the employer contacting me
  7. Hi Adam Yeah, that's what I thought when they gave me a breakdown of my package and the costs of bringing me over etc. The actual area is Tuggerah, so I need to check if that's excluded etc. I'll look into it more today and see what happens. Thanks
  8. Hi No, the new employer is picking up the costs of the visa etc. As part of the package they have "allowed" for $10-15k to cover the visa etc. I don't know how much each visa costs, but surely this would be covered by the figure that they've allowed. I'll look into the 187 today again and get my facts ready for when they contact me.
  9. Hi Joe Thanks for the reply. I never heard from the new employer today, so hopefully Ill hear from them tomorrow, I'll raise the comment about PR (187) when I talk to them. im going to mention the risk to us if we go down the 457 route and see If they'll look into the PR straight away. It would be better all round. G
  10. Hi Rupert Many thanks (once again) for your post, much appreciated. I will look into to that, and will mention to the new employer when they contact me. I'll let you know how I get on. Cheers G
  11. I incata Im not sure, will have to look into that. G
  12. I agree and all of the above has crossed my mind. To be honest, it is a risk and a big one at that, just currently weighing it all up. The employer all seems above board and this is actually the 2nd job they've offered so I know I'm demand (without sounding big headed), but as you say, it could all go pear shaped overnight if theres a change of management or the face doesn't fit. At this moment in time I would say that I (we) are 50/50 about the move. I'm set to hear from them tomorrow morning so i'll see what they say and then give it some more thought.
  13. Hi Rupert This is basically what the last agent said. I quote "its all very well having loads of experience and your skills being in demand with this new employer, however, the drawback is that you don't possess the correct qualifications". They said that this is the only route that I can go down, i.e. waiting / working for 2 years and then applying. My employer has stated that they are willing to do this (assist with putting me through the PR etc).
  14. Industrial / Technical Sales Its on the list, however, I cant recall the job number. You require a degree (which I don't have). That's my biggest concern and why I'd like to speak to this agent they're paying to arrange everything. The last thing I want is to move over there and then never have a chance at PR anyway. If I don't have a decent chance then I wont be going in the first place.
