  1. Hi there you can also call up DIBP and ask when you are eligible assuming no travel of more than 90 days has been/will be done
  2. The Temporary Residents Program has four broad categories: • Working Holiday Makers—young people holidaying in Australia with short‑term work and study rights. At the end of 2009–10, Australia had reciprocal working holiday visa arrangements with 25 countries. • Overseas Students—(or international students) are people studying full‑time in registered courses in Australia on a Student visa valid for the length of their course. • Skilled temporary residents—people mostly recruited by Australian companies who enter as temporary skilled migrants for up to four years under the Temporary Business (Long Stay) (subclass 457) visa. • Other temporary residence—a range of temporary residence visas allowing people to come to Australia for social, cultural, international relations and training purposes. http://www.immi.gov.au/media/publications/statistics/popflows2009-10/pop-flows-chapter3.pdf Dunno and this pdf does not make it clearer
  3. https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/citz/startIntervalCalc.do [h=1]Lawful Residence date[/h]If you were granted a Temporary Residence or Permanent Residence visa before you arrived in Australia, the date that you first arrived on that visa is the Lawful Residence date. If you were granted a Temporary Residence or Permanent Residence visaafter you arrived in Australia, the date that that visa was granted is the Lawful Residence date.
  4. Peach, I think if you decided to apply for citizenship today then if you were legally here (on any temp visa) on 24/09/2009 and you have been a PR since 24/09/2012 then you are eligible provided you meet the "Absences from Australia of no more than 1 year in the last 4 years and not more than 90 days in the 12 months immediately before applying" criteria.
  5. I don't think so. DIMIA/DIAC is well aware that there will no longer be any further applicants from 175/176/885/886 subclasses and therefore in my opinion can assess a number of applications every year to reduce the backlog. If a cap and cease were to happen it would have happened a long time ago and 176 lodged prior to Sept 2007 would have not been the only group to be affected by the cap and cease measure.
  6. Cool wasn't aware that it was possible that a visitor visa counts towards it - guess it would make sense since being on a student visa (temp visa) does count towards meeting the residency requirement
  7. http://www.citizenship.gov.au/applying/how_to_apply/migrant_perm_res/ If you were granted a migrant visa offshore your permanent residence date is the date of your first arrival in Australia on this visa. If you were granted a permanent residence visa onshore your permanent residence date is the date that visa was issued. You also need to be in Australia for 4 years (1 of which as a PR) to be eligible.
  8. Getting the 3 months work experience post graduation can become a tough experience. Employers can be reluctant to hire someone who is not a PR and someone who is also a graduate with no or little experience. However, if you are able to secure an internship while studying it may lead to better chances. Look at Universities that promote an internship of some sort because believe me it can be very hard to obtain work experience in any given field. As for the immigration rules changing we cannot predict what will happen. Skill Select seems to fix a lot of problems that plagued the immigration office so it may stay a while. You can only apply by invitation only and therefore DIMIA can control the number of people from a certain field in any given year. Read up on job opportunities in Australia in IT. I have read that there are a lot of IT employees that are having difficulty finding jobs - this may change in the future. All the best in your studies.

  10. QLD has kinda updated their site. Changed from subclass 176 to 190, though no official list has been released yet. http://www.workliveplay.qld.gov.au/dsdweb/v4/apps/web/content.cfm?id=3703

  12. Hey Blackjack, Before submitting your application (if you are doing it yourself), get a friend or family member to go over your application. I had a friend who did this for me and I hers. Sometimes in the heat of things you forget to tick a yes or no box or you have forgotten to answer a question, etc. There is a lot of paperwork so missing something can happen. Cheers
  13. Yeah I know it's been ages...not good for graduates but their previous list was pretty useless anyway
  14. [h=1]Eligible skills for onshore students and graduates[/h]Applications for Queensland Government state sponsorship have closed under the Queensland State Migration Plan (SMP) effective 25 January 2012. The SMP is the result of a formal agreement between the Queensland Government and the Australian Government's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC). The eligible skills lists are reviewed regularly and updated to reflect current labour market conditions. If you applied for nomination on the previous list and your application was stamped by our mail security before 25 January 2012, then your application will still be processed. All applications for Skilled Sponsored (Residence) Visa (Subclass 886) received after that date will be refused. Last updated 25 January 2012 http://www.workliveplay.qld.gov.au/dsdweb/v4/apps/web/content.cfm?id=13726 New list for other subclasses (176, etc) http://www.workliveplay.qld.gov.au/dsdweb/v4/apps/web/content.cfm?id=3703
  15. Hmmm interesting....when I applied for mine (have applied for at least 2 so far since last year) they told me that the only condition they had was for the application to be made a week before I intended to travel. I had no idea that you could apply via post. You learn new things everyday
  16. Hey Sambo76, I don't think you can apply for BVB via post. If you apply in person, it either gets granted/rejected on the spot. Please be aware that you can only apply for this visa a week before you intend to fly/travel.
  17. Hey coltrane, The whole reason why they have the BVB is so that DIMIA knows your physical whereabouts when it comes to granting a permanent visa. However you are also on a student visa and therefore may not be on a Bridging Visa A. BVA holders are only allowed to leave the country with a BVB. However I assume you can leave the country since you are on a student visa. Is this correct? I would firstly contact DIMIA and ask whether your student visa is in effect or are you on a BVA because that was the most recent visa that you got granted (Temp Partner visa = BVA). Ask them whether it would be best for you to lodge a BVB in this instance or whether a letter stating your travel dates would be sufficient. To my knowledge and experience, they are a bit more generous when it comes to granting a permanent visa and you are meant to be onshore but you are offshore. A lady from DIMIA told me this. However you need to let them know that you will be offshore. In that case, she told me that they will "wait" for your return and only grant the permanent visa once you are back. Don't take my word for it. Call them up and confirm. Hope this helps
  18. Hey jackd, What will his skills assessment require? From my knowledge general IELTS is ok for DIMIA but some skill assessments require academic. What will his nominated occupation be? From page 21 from Booklet 6 - General Skilled Migration - You need to ensure you are able to provide evidence of your English language ability. IELTS has an academic test and a general training test – unless you are required to do otherwise by your assessing authority you only need to take the general training test. Hope this helps!

  21. Hey Tania, I assume you are talking about getting a visa label from the Brisbane office? The counter hours are 9-4pm. Make sure that you go as early as possible. There is usually a long queue. They have two separate queues - one for visa labels, the other for visa lodgement, inquiries, etc. Hope this helps Btw, congrats on getting your visa...all the best xxx On another note, latest processing update: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/estimated-allocation-times.htm
  22. Thank you very much Peach and nellandged I was getting stressed at the amount of certifying I needed and the looks on the JPs' faces when I gave the documents. Have a good one!
  23. Hi everyone, Just a quick question please. When providing supporting documentation (e.g. joint bills, bank statements, birthday cards, correspondence from third parties to joint residential address) for the partner visa did anyone provide the original copy? I have read the Partner Migration booklet and it says certified copies. However, I have a lot of paperwork and don't necessarily want to have to certify each and every one of them. Any help will be greatly appreciated
