Good afternoon (or morning) everyone, I previously posted a question regarding Secondary Teaching, as at the time it was what I had planned to carry on and do. However after some interesting times, I am now aiming towards a career in Museums, and Australia still has a strong hold over me. On the Consolidated Skills Occupation List, Gallery or Museum Curator is listed (224212) however how do I find out which state the position actually belongs on? Ideally I am looking at Western Australia and Queensland. Where can I find more detailed information? I also have some other questions. By June 2016 I will have: BA (Hons) Classical Studies SVQ Level 3 Museums and Galleries Studies 1 years experience in a Museum, more curatorial than FOH I plan on going to do MA Museums and Galleries Studies in either St Andrews or Leicester (admission dependent!) 2016-2017. By the time of completing the MA, I will be 29. I found somewhere it states that you require at least 1 years experience in highly relevant employment (can't for the life of me remember where I found it). Would my 1 years experience count? That would be the year 2015-2016, whereas I would complete my MA in 2017 (assuming the plan goes along smoothly). I also at one point found a list explaining what points you got for what...skills you had (IELTs, education, age, etc) but I also can't find that and my mind is running blank.... I also understand that this occupation could be pulled at any point, however if that's the case then I will deal with it then! Thanks anyone who can help or advise with all of this. I've searched the forums high and low, and there is very little information I can find regarding this occupation! Thanks! Kirsty

Hi everyone, I am looking for some advice... Last year I was sponsored by my employer for a 457 visa, however due to the HR assistant not knowing much about immigration she just put down for 18months and thought we could extend it later. Not as easy as it sounds as they would need to nominate me for a 457 again and we would have to pay the fee. We want to apply for PR however we are 6 months short on our current 457. Yesterday a friend said, you can apply for PR through the direct entry scheme. I am a primary teacher and am on the consolidated list. When I was completing my 457, I submitted my degree for a skills assessment however it wasn't actually needed for the 457. Does this help when applying for the 186 visa? I would appreciate any advice on what the best option is as I really want to get the ball rolling! Cheers, Allison

Hello, I've just joined this site like 2 mins ago so plz be nice Ive got an admit from Monash Uni for Masters in Business (My intended major is Project Management). I intend to stay back in Australia and hence need a PR. Part 1: The likely outcomes from my major dont seem to be on the SOL (There's one called construction project manager, but i dont see myself into construction). Does this mean I wont be eligible for a PR? Is it absolutely necessary to have an occupation on the SOL? Part 2: IF i dont choose Project Management, the other majors that I'm open to are Information technology Law and responsible business Managing human capital Marketing Responsible management Risk management Supply chain management Is any of these likely to get me an occupation from the SOL? I'm from India and intending for the Feb 2015 intake. Also, I've seen certain occupations that i may be eligible for on the CSOL. But these seem to have no mention on the Victorian govt's SOL..!! Am i eligible for CSOL in the first place? Secondly, what if my nominated occupation isnt on the govt's site? Plz help. I'm investing a hefty sum here. Wanna make an informed decision. Cheers..!!

Hi guys, Wanted to ask if someone can help with information regarding the partner points. The profession of my de-facto partner is on both on the SOL and CSOL list, however my profession is only on the CSOL list (maybe I can get a positive assessment for a profession on the SOL list, but I have doubts about this). So the question is: will my partner be able to claim partner points for the 189 visa if my positive assessment is for a profession from the CSOL list or he can only apply for 190 visa in this case? Thank you in advance! A

http://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2012L01451 The Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL), is a single list of occupations for employer sponsored and State / Territory nominated skilled visa Subclasses. The CSOL replaces the Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS), Temporary Business (Long Stay - Subclass 457), and General Skilled Migration (GSM) State / Territory nominated Skilled Occupations Lists. Best regards.

Work visas rorted with help of lengthy jobs list "Singer, potter, caravan park manager, grape grower – they are among almost 750 occupations eligible for the 457 visa program to fill skill shortages in Australia. Workplace experts who have made submissions to the government on the legislation – expected to be voted on in Parliament on Tuesday – say the list must be culled to reduce rorting. A Senate report tabled on Monday recommended passing the new laws to deter what the government says is the growing misuse of the temporary skilled worker visa system. The laws, proposed by Immigration Minister Brendan O'Connor (whose brother heads the powerful CMFEU union), include mandatory advertising and other activities to prove that a job was first offered in Australia; empowering 300 Fair Work Ombudsman inspectors to police rorting of the scheme; and giving a 457 worker who loses his or her sponsorship 90 days to find a new position, instead of the current 28." More xenophobia from our ageing white Australian politicians, media, unions etc. but negative perceptions mostly seem to be based upon personal opinions, biases and anecdotal evidence. This then suggests, indirectly, that Australians are a bunch of losers and have much to be afraid of regarding foreigners, immigration, employment, temporary work visas etc.

2012 - CSOL Schedule 1 & 2 Options. Which role should I select for skills recognition
Guest posted a topic in Visa Chat
Hi Everyone,Hoping someone can advise. I'm hoping to permanently emigrate to Australia with my long term Partner. I work for BT and am a qualified Telecomms Field engineer where i manage provision of service and repair faults on telephone lines for Broadband and PSTN. For this i have completed an apprenticeship, gained an NVQ Level 3 and BTEC in telecommunications. I also have 3 HNC's, 1 in Electronics, 1 in Electrical engineering and the other in Mechatronics. I have been with BT now for 9 years and I'm classed as a senior technician where i lead engineering projects and matrix teams of engineers during a project to ensure we have the work completed on time, budget and to the correct quality standards. For this I am also a qualified project manager and have the Prince 2 qualification and a Degree in Business Management. I have also passed my IELTS exam for English as I know the assessing bodies expect this. The reason i have mentioned the qualifications etc is to really position my query and the assistance i'm hoping for. From the skills and qualifications i have gained so far i think i can apply to get my skills recognised by Engineers Australia as a Telecommunication Field engineer which is on Schedule 1 of the Skilled Occupations List (CSOL). However i have a feeling that i need to have an engineering degree for this and i have a business one. The applications form for this seems to be quite long also. I have also noticed that on Schedule 2 of the CSOL there is a role called Telecommunications Technician where the assessing body is TRA. The application process through TRA seems much more straight forward and i would be more inclined to apply for this. After checking the areas in Australia that have Telecommunications Technicians on their list i noticed that both Melbourne and Perth have this, which would be fine with me. I'm more inclined to Opt for the skill on Schedule 2 because the form seems simpler and the outline of the role against this seems similar to the skills i have, however my skills also match with the one on Schedule 1. If i go for a skill on Schedule 2 do you think this will reduce my chance of being selected? This is the last thing i want to do.Hope this makes sense and you can help me out. Warm Regards Chris -
The position of Office Manager, ANZSCO 512111 has been removed from the new Consolodated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL. This means the position is no longer eligible for GSM, ENS or 457. If this change affects you, start looking at other migration options including RSMS or investigating skills you have which may be transferrable to another occupation on the CSOL.
