  1. We have just had a positive result for one of our clients whose skills assessment was submitted via Vetassess's new Priority Processing Service. The application was approved in 6 days. That's certainly an improvement on 12 weeks! All documents must be provided at time of application. If there is anything missing or not provided to their satisfaction then the application reverts to standard processing times and the priority fee is refunded. Regards, Richard PS Priority Processing is for Vetassess General occupations only.
  2. AITSL does not require the teaching qualification to be the final qualification. For example, you may have a three year teaching degree, but you then do a Masters to bring your university level education up to 4 years to meet AITSL requirements. This would be acceptable. You must have a minimum of fours years of university level education, not college level. Regards, Richard
  3. If you can demonstrate that the OTHM level 6 diploma is a university level qualification then yes. But you would need the university who issued it to confirm that. The course would have to be issued and taught by a university level institution.
  4. That's great news Gary! I should point out that Vetassess take the marking very seriously, so you shouldn't be annoyed because they issued the result almost right away (Vetassess are usually accused of being too slow. They can never win can they?). While I can't comment on your pastries, I wouldn't want people to imagine the interview is a simple box ticking exercise. That may lead to a disappointing outcome for some. Regards, Richard
  5. Yes, three weeks is the total estimated processing time from the date that all documents are acknowledged to have been received. Regards, Richard
  6. Australia is becoming more selective when it comes to skilled visas. Not only were 200 occupations on the skills and consolidated skills occupation lists (SOL and CSOL) removed in July this year, but skilled applicants often have to score more than the required 60 points. There is, however, still huge opportunity for most trades, engineers, nurses, IT occupations and many others. Much may depend on whether you are willing to wait longer once you lodge your expression of interest (EOI), for your application to be selected, and whether your application is deemed to be a pro rata occupation. Currently, you require 60 points for most skilled trades applications to qualify. Current waiting times (as at October 1) are 9 months for 60 points, or from 1 month if you score 65 points. If your occupation is on the pro rata list (that is, chosen for the highest points) which include Accountants and Auditors, most types of Engineers (mechanical, production, electrical and industrial and engineering professionals) and IT occupations require 70 to 75 points if you want to be selected in the next rounds unless you are prepared to wait a minimum of 9 months with a score of 60 or 65. There are a few options to consider if you need to boost those points in order to be selected. Consider achieving a higher score in your English language test. Level 7 in IELTS will increase your score by 10 points - although most applicants have to achieve this score for points in any case, and level 8 by 20 points – or 10 extra points if you have already scored level 7. If you have a partner or spouse with an eligible skill and who meets minimum requirements (be under 45 years of age and pass the skills assessment test), you can add a further 5 points to your score. You may also consider State Sponsorship. Although this is an extra cost (approximately from AUD 200 to AUD 770), state sponsorship will add 5 points to your score, or 10 points if you consider going regional. Some states have closed off sponsorship such as ACT, and West Australia requires a job offer first). Reaching the EOI stage is probably the most difficult and stressful part of your application. However, don’t forget that you will more than likely have to sit the English language test; you will be required to undertake a character assessment and divulge any past convictions; sort out any child custody issues, and if you are not married and are travelling with your partner, you will need substantial evidence of living together as a couple for at least 12 months. 7. It very much depends on the assessment officer, but if the degree doesn't explicitly state early years/pre primary in the title then it does risk being rejected. Also, the age range you mention (3 to 8) is within AITSL's range for early years, but there's no way to be sure other than to submit it. Re primary school teachers, I can't see this changing any time soon. Do you have primary school experience teaching in another language? Regards, Richard
  8. Anna, yes they do. You have to be careful though. Generally, the degree should actually have 'early years' or 'pre primary' in the title, otherwise AITSL are far less likely to accept it, even if you provide a letter from the uni confirming age range and duration of supervised practice as early years. Regards, Richard
  9. Modified is quicker and easier. Saying that, full assessments are taking around 3 weeks at the moment...
  10. Yes, when it comes to assessing employment experience for points, ANMAC will award points based on submitted references. In doing so ,they will assess each role and decide the exact category for each role. As for qualifications, you can't score any more than 15 points, no matter how many degrees you have, unless you have a PHD, which is 20 points. The line you mention regarding 10 points is for qualifications below degree level (diplomas etc). You can't score any points for that as you are already being awarded 15 points for having a degree. Regards, Richard
  11. The only 10 points that can come from an ANMAC assessment is points test advice based on your submitted employment references, in this case it would have to be 5 years or more post registration. Other than that, you get 15 points for having a degree level qualification. Bear in mind that any points test advice from ANMAC is precisely that - advice. It's highly advantageous to have it, but it's up to the case officer at the visa stage to make the final determination. Regards, Richard
  12. Yup no problem. The next thing is to inquire with the university to see if they are willing to provide a letter confirming the number of days teaching practice, and to state the age range and setting in which this took place. Regards, Richard
  13. Unless your teaching qualification has the requirement of minimum 45 days teaching practice across the specified age range then it ain't happening. Work experience itself doesn't count as a substitute - there's no arguing with AITSL about this. Regards, Richard
  14. Well, once again, this is what AITSL have to say: Professional The professional criterion must be met in one of two ways: (i) an initial teacher education qualification of at least one year full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at the higher education (university) level that includes a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students in a school setting, and a formal post graduate qualification in special education of at least one year in duration (full-time or part-time equivalent) at the higher education (university) level. NOTE - Applicants relying on a postgraduate special education qualification to, in-part, meet the professional criterion must have completed a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice in a school setting as part of their initial teacher education qualification to meet the professional assessment criteria. or (ii) an undergraduate initial teacher education qualification with a specialisation in special education of at least one year full-time study (or part-time equivalent), at the higher education (university) level that includes a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students within a special education setting. The professional qualification/s must be assessed as comparable to the educational level of an Australian bachelor degree or higher. Quote
  15. I should correct the language requirements. Current requirements state that an applicant who has completed at least four full years of study in higher education (university) in Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America is exempt. This study must have resulted in award of qualification(s) comparable to the educational level of an Australian bachelor degree or higher and must include a recognised initial teacher education qualification.
  16. Specific guidance from AITSL: Professional The professional criterion must be met in one of two ways: (i) an initial teacher education qualification of at least one year full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at the higher education (university) level that includes a minimum of 45 days of supervised teaching practice with students in a school setting, and a formal post graduate qualification in special education of at least one year in duration (full-time or part-time equivalent) at the higher education (university) level.
  17. As long as you have a minimum of 4 years of university education, which includes a minimum of one year SEN teaching education with minimum 45 days+ placement experience in a school setting with SEN students, then you'll meet the requirements. If you are a (born) UK citizen you won't need IELTS. Regards, Richard

  19. Indeed. It happens sometimes that those who misunderstand the process often lodge an EOI not realising that they need to undertake a skills assessment (and English Language in many cases) first! You should make sure that these are done, and you have the results, before you even begin filling out an EOI. Regards, Richard
  20. It's worth noting for after state approval comes in, that immigration are moving beyond the procedure of applications being assigned to a single case officer. In line with their new Global Management System, case officers will undertake work on an ad hoc basis with work divided among several case officers as required. These procedures are continuing to be rolled-out. Regards, Richard
  21. If you wish to apply for a permanent skilled visa, then an AQF 3 would give you 10 points, but you would still need to have your skills assessed - the assessment authority (VETASSESS or ACTS for example) would take into account your qualifications and referenced work experience. ACTS require 3 years' referenced work experience, Vetassess normally require 5 years', but with an AQF 3 you could apply via pathway 2 which only requires three years. Regards, Richard
  22. In my experience, Vetassess do tend to recognise date errors when pointed out to them and they will re-issue with corrected dates. You need to send them a polite email with the letter attached and explaining the situation. Regards, Richard
  23. Make sure you meet that state's requirements first! Regards, Richard MARN 9905168

  25. ICT occupations are taking a while to get picked up right now. Computer Network & Systems Engineer at 65 points is taking around 6 months to be picked up at present. 'Software engineer' at 65 points should take 4 to 6 weeks at present but this is based on estimates from earlier this year. Regards, Richard
