I feel your pain. Mines coming up to 12 months also. I don’t know what checks they need to do. Surely they only need to check you didn’t commit serious crimes and you stayed the 4 years with 1 as perm resident. Not rocket science. This should be the easiest step of them all but it’s taking as long as my original partner visa and there must have been 10x the amount of checks for that one. I wish we could complain but nothing we can do. As I’ve said before they just expect us to be grateful.

They check Australian police records - not just serious stuff, but anything, including intelligence. they check ASIO records (national security), which includes things like No-Fly lists, security countries you may have visited since becoming PR.

Doing checks is just their excuse and the only one can be used to tackle with the complaints or the flooding incoming enquiry calls. The fact is the Dept does not have the capacity to process so many applications (various categories) in a limited time frame, in addition to poor organisational skills or indifference of some staff, which makes certain cases, i.e., these 'pending ones' unattended for very long time once undergone so-called checks. This is the main reason why the processing system seems chaotic and does not follow the chronological order. It's also why in this April they had changed the expected processing time from 6 months to 14 months, LOL, actually, they can change to 2 years or even a lot longer so as to have enough buffer time before the hotline jamed.

@Elliot Tsao you are expecting " The letter" by the end of next week?  :):(

Yes, @Sheila The CSR from DIBP answered me over my call, but I reckon it still has two scenarios:

1. I can receive my letter before the End of Nov. , or

2. My letter just been created before this deadline and DIBP will dispatch to postal service, one more week waiting for receiving.

I just had my citizenship interview and test this morning in Sydney. My children are up tomorrow and wife next Monday. We applied all together on the 21st April this year electronically. It was all pretty painless until I realised I forgot my 1195 form signed passport picture but thankfully wasn't a problem and can bring it in tomorrow when the kids are there. They couldn't give me any idea of when I would be finally be approved and when the ceremony would be. Nearly over the line...
