  1. I reckon make it a poll. Pick 3/4 weekends over the summer, and then locations and let the majority decide. You'll never please everyone, but i'm up for meeting if i'm free on the chosen dates.
  2. It's natural to be emotional, everything's changing. Just make sure you enjoy the ride.
  3. I don't see the problem, the rate is a couple of pence lower, but with zero transfer fees as a PIO member it's great. My bank charge a fortune for an international transfer, and withdrawing money from there costs too.
  4. Glad to hear you're surviving Mrs T. I lost my Dad 3 years ago and he would've been celebrating his 90th this week. I think he was the only man in my life i've ever been able to really rely on. It's an odd feeling realising you're really alone when both parents are gone. Still, you carry them with you every day. Big hugs, and I hope it gets easier for you soon. xx
  5. Saint Stephens and Coomera Anglican are the local well-rated private schools there. My Godson goes to Coomera Anglican. As Tina said, Upper Coomera State College doesn't have the best reputation, so try to avoid that one if you can.
  6. Why worry Blossom, if that old lady was right it won't be anywhere near as bad as this. Plus, pain relief on tap. You'll be right. hope you get it all sorted soon.
  7. And all the yummy mummies with their chelsea tractors were laughing at the haters this winter, when they could still get Tarquin to school in the floods (after reading the manual and working out where the 4x4 button was ;-)
  8. Take a holiday. Get away for a week somewhere, maybe it'll help.
  9. Next time, i'm gonna book the longer stopover option (by an hour or 2) and take the skytrain to T1 to do just that. If anyone hasn't realised, there's an amazing place upstairs at T3 - Transit area where you can pay for a shower, massage, place to sleep etc - I find a shower makes ALL the difference after a 13 hour flight, makes you feel human again before the next leg.
  10. Nothing but. Plus 30KG luggage limit too. Standard meals are very good in comparison to BA/Virgin etc, but there's a zillion food options if you want a different kind of meal, all bookable on their site in your planned trip section. Staff are very good, entertainment system on the planes is one of the best i've come across so far, and the A380 is a winner for comfort and space.
  11. Yes, flown with them 3 times there now. They're brilliant. Well worth it.
  12. Well your trade is on the Skilled Occupation list, so you could probably go for a 189 Independent Skilled Visa. http://www.immi.gov.au/Work/Pages/skilled-occupations-lists/sol.aspx That would give you 5 years permanent residency and wouldn't tie you to working at one place. Not sure how the assessments work for that governing body but if you want it done fast and right, i'd suggest speaking to a MARA registered agent to check all of your options and the requirements. Assuming you have the right qualifications/skills and no criminal record it should be easy enough. You'll want to get an application in before you're 39 though ideally as you lose 5 more points for age at that point.
  13. Fingers crossed if I get my skills assessment, EOI and visa, i'll be joining you all. Early days yet but working hard.
  14. Nude - not brown! the right pair of nude shoes in a matching tone to your skintone, will elongate your pins. If you're shopping UK side take a look at Monsoon, they have a lot of lovely summer wedding dresses in at the moment.
  15. The potholes are the country over, they started about 3 winters ago and haven't bloody been fixed. After the floods they're now even worse, and even though there's money in central government to fix them, the local councils have cut costs back so much that they aren't getting anyone to do anything apart from temporary repairs which just come loose a week later. It's why i've stopped riding my motorbike pretty much. Some of them are deadly.
  16. Ah that's why I stay on London on bank holidays. Cos every other bastard has gone and I get my city back and can drive around it with zero traffic, it's brilliant.
  17. It's all relative. When i was in Aus 18 months ago it was ridiculously expensive but then the pound was weaker/dollar stronger so i felt the difference a lot more. In December when I went, it was pretty much the same as here, the food didn't seem as expensive as the year before. It's not cheap living in the UK either though, especially anywhere in the Greater London area. Rents are ridiculous now, I feel sorry for people who haven't been lucky enough to get on the property ladder. Food has probably gone up about 30% in the last couple of years, electric and gas too. It's the same in both places really. Where one gives the other takes and it works itself out. Cars though - i'll agree there, crazy expensive down under but then your jetskis are way cheaper
  18. Thanks Craig - appreciate the response. Have owned the car this side for over a year. cheers
  19. Hello and welcome, I can't advice you but you should be able to give any MARA registered immigration agent a call and they should be able to tell you. One will probably be along here in a while. However, depending which Visa is relevant to you, the immi.gov.au site says this. (i think this is the one you need, i'm not 100% though sorry) Child visa (subclass 101) lets an eligible parent sponsor their child to live in Australia indefinitely. The parent can apply on behalf of a child younger than 18 years of age. An eligible parent is: an Australian citizen the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa an eligible New Zealand citizen. The child must be outside Australia when the application is lodged and when the visa is granted. http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/101.aspx
  20. There isn't a country in the world that doesn't have a drug or violence issue of some sort somewhere, that's just reality these days i'm afraid. It seems like we can barely go a day in the news here without a kid getting stabbed or someone being shot. If you come back assuming it's all rosey here then you'll be blinkered, but if you're coming back for the right reasons as it's where you and your family want to be, then good on ya. It's your choice, your decision, just go into it eyes open. As Jac said, it's an adventure, wherever you choose to be is where you want to be at that point.
  21. If it doesn't have lime it isn't a proper g&t!
