  1. Yes - personally I don't think people have fully woken up to that risk yet. They were testing the flood water in someones house in Wraysbury, and it was a mega colony of fecal bacteria. I think we associate disease with other countries, not our own, and aren't clued onto the fact that we really shouldn't be wading around in our germ infested stale water filled properties.
  2. Mine are getting certified by my immi solicitor. I assume any solicitor can do that, but more info here. https://www.gov.uk/certifying-a-document
  3. Surely if you've got plenty of blue chip multi-national company experience, and are on a PR visa, you should at least get a decent look in?
  4. Yes but dredging any rivers wouldn't have prevented this, would've just put it off a few days. The water table is at groundlevel instead of 25m below, hence nowhere for rainwater to go, sinkholes appearing in peoples drives and in the middle of motorways, cattle being rescued from farmland and sewage bubbling up everywhere. If they hadn't put us on a bloody ban last year we'd have used more water and wouldn't have this issue
  5. The flooding is awful and with yesterdays storm, another forecast for tomorrow and more at the weekend it's only going to get worse.
  6. Partner visa, should be easy enough. My neighbour did hers for her partner, most of it is gathering the proof you've been together. I'm only going an agent as i'm going the skilled route and don't want to get that part wrong.
  7. The Thameslink makes the commute quite easy, hence why everyone moved out a fair few years ago now. A lot of people come in daily from Brighton/hove.
  8. Not since i've been there. Crazy really. Though, demand constantly outstrips supply in London so unless there's a massive global downturn, it's unlikely. Prices in London tend to plateau instead of dropping and just stagnate for a while, then climb again.
  9. Get in quick as the age bands change at 39/40 and you lose 5 points for that. Get yourself a MARA registered agent, I have no degree and can hopefully get enough points to get through with IELTS tests etc.
  10. They opened up an Asda 1/2 a mile from my house recently. Popped down there once as it's slightly closer than the Sainsburys and M&S superstore the other way if the traffic's bad. Never again. I'm no snob either, but bloody hell, chavs everywhere, the food is awful, likelyhood of mugging in the carpark = high. I never used to mind Asda, now i will do everything i can do never go there again.
  11. What a f'in liberty. Hope she doesn't end up on the receiving end of his violence and eating those words.
  12. The ski's over in Aus are a LOT cheaper than in the UK due to the size of the market. As above, you need boat and jetski licences in Oz to take to the water, you'd need to check if your licence from here is valid and transferable in the state you go to, or take your state licence.
  13. I read that anything where fruit and nuts have been cooked in, is fine for import.
  14. I'll be moving over alone if i get a visa. I'm lucky in that i have friends over there already, but it's still daunting to leave everything you know here and move to the other side of the world, but then it wouldn't be an adventure if it wasn't
  15. Snakes oddly don't bother me at all, they're always more afraid of you. The birds don't do anything, they're fine. And bats you only see at dusk as they fly in from the coast to feed, they just go overhead, they look really cool.
  16. Don't even THINK of posting a pic of one that isn't.
  17. Ugh that picture is horrific, i wasn't expecting that. My eyes! It's my WORST fear too and why Australia hasn't ever been in my plan. Now it is. How the feck that happened when i'm petrified of them i've no idea. Argh.
  18. Well i've been there 3 times, and all the aussies i've met so far have been nothing but helpful, friendly, and kind hearted. My best friends family and friends couldn't be more accommodating, and while some are 'rough around the edges' they have all had hearts of gold and been real salt of the earth people. I'm sure people are similar around the world, generalising is pointless.
  19. Its roughly 9 months at the moment end to end according to my agent. First steps are all paperwork to be certified and sent for assessment, birth certs, qualifications, references etc. then you submit to the agency that assesses you, and you wait a few months for that. then if you get an invite to apply that when the main application goes in with medicals and police checks etc. There are some good agents recommended on here, most if you give them a call, will let you know if you have a good chance. Make sure they're MARA registered.
  20. Hello and welcome from a fellow newbie!
  21. I own my house 50/50 with a friend. I don't see the point in selling my half off when I go, he wants us to keep it too, as the rent will cover the mortgage and then some. Plus it'll be an income in years to come when it's paid off. Maybe it's because it's in London, and personally I think i'd be foolish to let go of property in London, even if I don't ever want to come live in it again (assuming I make it South!).
  22. Congrats! I'm just starting all the paperwork for step 1! Seems like the start of a long process but excited.
