  1. I'm gonna assume the objects being picked up by HMAS Success will probably be wreckage. So very sad. There may have been some slim chance of survival if they'd known where to look sooner than 17 days. I really hope something changes in that respect soon. Keep up the good search Australia, the world appreciates all your effort. Those poor families.
  2. On the flip side when my best friend and godson moved there I haven't missed a birthday or Christmas and regularly send him little parcels that he loves. My brother has point blank said he won't ever visit if I move though. Family eh.
  3. If you join the Tomnod search on the web, you'll realise it takes FOREVER for 2.3 million people to manually search satellite images. The fact they found that within a couple of days is quite amazing.
  4. You can build your own house, to your own specs. Why don't you self build how you want?
  5. There's no radar coverage at sea. Hence why planes space out about 3 times as much as over land. Civilian radar at Perth or anywhere else wouldn't have picked up the plane as the transponder was off. Military radar would be your only hope and then if it was in a known commercial flight corridor or in the radar shadow of another plane it would probably have been ignored. If it wasn't though, then it should have been picked up assuming there was some military radar coverage.

Would you like to go thru losing someone just because the government refused to aknowledge they had it wrong? It happens all the time, cancer drugs that aren't available here yet, tests that for probably good reason don't start till older ages. I'm sure men less than 40 die of prostate cancer as they don't have checks till that age, but it's risk vs cost and reward. The risk is very low, same with this poor girl. Yes she should have been tested and maybe the doctors should've pointed them towards a private test if there was a reason the nhs couldn't do it. It wouldn't have cost that much realistically. It's a very sad state of affairs but hopefully with vaccination it will be a thing of the past soon.
  7. i'd be consulting a lawyer if i were you. You'll need it in legalese in the UK to be allowed to take him, and you'll need a visa in Aus for him to be able to stay. If you get stuck send me a PM and i can point you towards my immigration lawyer, he's a practising lawyer in both countries and may be able to advise.
  8. There is a 20/30/40 meetup posted somewhere that's in that area, have a look there. I'm sure it doesn't just need to be for singles (if it even is).
  9. Hey Michele hello and welcome, i'm not in Oz yet but if i make it to the GC i'll defo look you up for coffee.
  10. Her company had debts but nothing unusual for the industry. They are always running into debt then it gets cleared in one hit later in the year.
  11. well the visa year restarts on the 1st July, so if all the invites for the year are gone, you'll be waiting till then i'm afraid. When i started with my agent in January there were only 60 invites remaining for my category so chances of me getting the assessments done and any invites being left were nil. Which state were you applying for?
  12. Yesterday the air force was saying they tracked it on military radar an hour after normal radar lost contact. Today they're retracting that. No matter how good you are at looking you ain't gonna find it if you're looking in the wrong place. the poor families must be beside themselves.
  13. They'll probably never tell us what they've actually done until they have all the answers i'm sure the media are speculating just as much as we are. Awful situation, and i'm amazed that this many days later we still haven't found the plane. There were reports that a Cathay Pacific airliner had spotted visible wreckage on their flight a few hours ago, hopefully the search teams get there soon to find out if it's related.
  14. Nobody's suggesting they have all the answers, but it's worldwide news, we're more than entitled to discuss it.
  15. It's a thought that crossed my mind too. He would be keeping that VERY quiet. Although wouldn't radar or something pick up a missile launch?
  16. @itchyfeet76 yes - there is a flash detection system that registers nuclear explosions around the world that i think can pick up smaller ones too. I believe they said at the weekend nothing had been picked up, but they've asked nuclear experts today to double check for any evidence of explosions.
  17. Well every passport is at least scanned in the UK which would have set off the alarms in this case if they were using cancelled passports.
  18. Yep you could do exactly that. It's about 9 months at the moment apparently.
  19. Very scary flight tracker had it literally disappearing at 35,000 feet. The fact there's no wreckage so far is very odd. Doesn't look good, must be so awful for the friends and family. Horrific situation.
  20. In quality of life terms, probably. London is great, don't get me wrong, I love it. Going into the city on a sunny day over the bridges or along the embankment in a taxi is irreplacable for awesomeness. For blue chip work it's brilliant, no better place to be apart from maybe Silicon Valley in the US, and for the first few years it's non stop party, drinks, nights out, sightseeing etc. Then you realise actually, although the work is great and pays really well, you're working 50-60 hours a week and not seeing your friends and family as much. It's not so great walking along fume infested roads to the tube every day. The potholes are bloody annoying, the pavements are dirty, the tube whilst fantastic is frustrating after the novelty wears off (along with other peoples armpits) and that fresh air and beaches and not working endless hours of your life away are calling. But the first few years rock. Some never tire of it.
  21. No worries, I do that all the time
