  1. I like this thought process. If the banks identify it on your account it becomes a cost of earning interest, which then becomes tax deductable. So the go would only get about 66% of the number.
  2. It depends a lot on were you live. Local Councils are responsible for the ceremonies, so they tend to do them on an as required basis. Ask your local council about timings would be my advice
  3. A tax consultant will cost you ~$250 to tell you (and this will be deductible next year). Details are a little sparse here. It will be $250 well spent in my opinion.
  4. I love the phrase "their fair share". Actually means "what we say you should pay", it has nothing to do with fair share.
  5. I just downloaded them from the hmrc site, completed them and sent them back. must be honest I don't think I got any in the post this year.
  6. Bring proof of your ability to access the NHS. There is a recipricol arrangement with the UK which will allow you access to Australia's public health system.
  7. try saaustralia.org for advice on this stuff. More directed to South Africans, but has useful tips and contacts
  8. This is more of a problem. Your wife will have made a false declaration to the Australian government. They don't like that.
  9. the joys of having a new technology rollout. It just isn't worthwhile to invest in the old. Why would Telstra invest when the NBN will make it impossible to get their money back?
  10. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/hrpolicies/wage_rates/nursing.asp For Queensland rates
  11. The trouble is it's not only the figures disclosed here. a number (most) once they have PR will sponsor other members of their families. Take the number and multiply by 3 or 4 to get the real number.
  12. Company B is controlled in Australia and therefore taxed in Australia (Australian tax will be nt of taxes paid in the UK)
  13. You could ask Centrelink?
  14. There are two parties to a contract of employment. While you may not need to take any conversion exams to work as an accountant it makes no difference if your potential employer wants an Australian qualified accountant.
  15. Well your son is certainly not independent if he needs centre link payments
  16. Lots, especially those who want to "tag along" on their parents visa! lol
  17. The thing about this is the first question that comes to mind to a Co is "what else have they not been truthful about in their application?" Expect the rest of the application to be treated with trepidation and lots of checks.
  18. Your Super isn't taken away from you. It's put into a Super fund.
  19. I always have a bit of a problem when anybody, or any organization demands more money for their particular cause, WITHOUT coming up with a proposal has to how the money to do it is to be raised. I see it all over the world, it's not confined to the UK, Scotland or Australia. Arguments, in my opinion are only valid, when there is a funding proposal associated with it. So if you "demand" more money for say child poverty it should be accompanied with something like "and it should be funded by reducing the education budget" I suspect that most funding arguments will be "increased taxation". I suspect when all the extra taxation proposals are added up the tax rates with be 150%.
  20. I think you also need to make sure that the company can't "get rid of the problem" by using the probation clause of the contract. I'm also not sure if there is a an automatic probation period in terms of QLD employment law, if probation is not mentioned in your contract.
  21. Think of it from your CO's point of view You've made a false declaration on your application, that's actually grounds in its own right for refusal. What else in your application haven't you been honest about will be what your CO is thinking.
  22. There are special rules for forex gains and losses. I suggest you consult a good tax practitioner (not one of the ones you find in shopping centers)
  23. Fake xmas trees are fine. Pine Cones are not. Typically they get packed together, so xmas decorations are almost always checked by customs. Plants you can be 99.99% sure are not fine, unless they have been treated and their roots enclosed in some gel type substance. Even then there will be issues and checks. I'm not sure how you plan to keep your plants alive while they are in a container, unless you were planning on hand luggage?
