  1. hi, Im wondering what restrictions are with a 187 that are not with 186. are these restrictions ones that make it harder to get pr??? TIA
  2. Rupert, my husband is currently working in a remote area and not exactly loving it!!!!! There is an option for him to work in the perth brach with same employer. but we had thought it would be easier to get a 187, can anyone tell me in what way it is easier to get a 186. i am giving up on reading and phoning diac for information. head is wrecked,
  3. we are in australia on a 457 visa and once my husband gets his medical registration in march we can apply for pr. we have a choice of 186 or 187. Can anyone advise on the pros /cons as we are not sure which one to go for. Is the regional one quicker to get and does it mean we have to stay working in a regional area? my husband will be 50 in dec 2014 so we need to get pr asap. also we will have a son going to uni in 2015 so not wanting to be charges international school fees. Thanks
  4. we are planning a holiday to possibly bali/vietnam in december and wondering if anyone has been there at this time of year.i believe it can be quite wet in bali then but as we are living in wa we are looking for somewhere that wont incur hours and hours on a plane. we have 4 children youngest being 10 and they would be up for visiting somewhere different. anyone got suggestions? thanks,
  5. THAT WILL BE 16,000 FOR US TO PAY NEXT JANUARY. there will be a lot of people in WA who will leave because of this plus the increase (again) of visa costs from september. We arrived here at the beginning of the year and had researched private schools but we couldn't afford them so it seems very unfair for the government to change the goalposts like this and charge people like this. These fees plus the costs of a visa for a family of 6 will be up on 30,000. Serious decisions will have to be made.
  6. hubby should get his registration in march 2014 and is also on the advanced standing\limited registration. we had planned on applying for the 186\187 through our sponsor. only problem is ny OH is not sure how much longer he can stick his present situation. not good. he has come close to handing in his resignation and the only reason he hasnt is that we are on a 457, im not working and we really like being in WA. he is short on points because of his age. so its either he puts up with the job or finds another sponsor.
  7. we are here on a 457 since the beginning of the yer. my husband is a medical doctor without australian exams and will be able to get registration after he has been here for one year. because he is already 48 we are wondering if we have to wit 2 years before we can apply for pr. also we have a boy who will be starting uni in a year and a half so want to avoid the huge international school fees. so my question is, how quickly can we apply for pr?? diac website has me frazzled. TIA
  8. we moved to bunbury early this year and love it. we have 4 children aged 16,13,11 and 9. they attend 3 different schools so theres a lot of ferrying from one school to the other. my eldest is in year 11 in manea senior secondary. princple got award for best principle in wa and its an AMAZING scchool. oh, and its free!!! second boy is in bunbury high in the gate program and very happy with it and younger 2 in south bunbury primary. we live beside the sea in south bunbury and rent is 450 a week but you can rent for cheaper 350 without the ocean view. got lost in treendale once and wasnt overly keen on it but i prefer the older houses and being in bunbury. treendale and dalyellup are a bit truman showish for me. lots of 3 bed houses for rent, not as many 4 beds.
  9. we are here on a 457. very happy here except for oh's job. just wondering if its possible to leave his sponsor and work for himself. he has an abn number but i know that our conditions on the 457 mean he would have to leave within 28 days if he leaves his job. is there a business visa for self employed people over 45 years old. thanks
  10. thanks for the information. We were going to buy our 11 year old a phone or camera. a peace offering for leaving his friends behind so might just get him to pick something out in OZ ten. will check out the Funan centre but maybe we should focus on the interesting foods there instead. because im not really into electronics i could be ripped off big time. Don't have time to esearch it properly. packing and sorting ourselves out for flight next tuesday. we only had 2 weeks to organize ourselves and have 4 kids so stress levels pretty high. thanks so much everyone for your input.
  11. hi, we will be stopping off in singapore for a couple of days on route to Oz and someone told me that electronics were cheap there. thibking of getting a video camera and phone. is it better to buy a phone there or wait til i get to Oz as i might get a deal when signing a new 12 month contract with a mobile phone company. Anyone have any ideas about this. I haven't a clue about stuff like this. thanks.
  12. we got our 457 visa today. has been a long hard slog getting medical registration sorted. I will be 46 at the end of the month and OH is 48. we are taking 4 kids with us. we dont think we are too old but if we waited another 2 years, yes we would. i would say go for it. wish i remembered what film this quote is from "get busy living, or get busy dying' (probably got this all wrong but its somethinh along those lines!!!!)
  13. thanks for that. have a feeling they are not as orgaised in ireland. but will ask my gp and might be pleasantly surprised. Thanks again,
  14. hello we are moving to WA next month. we have 4 children and because we have moved quite a bit im not sure where to look for records of my kids vaccination records. The 4 of them have been vaccinated but not sure where to start to look for the records. i was never given them (we are in ireland). I have seen on an enrollment form that i need to take vaccination records with me. My husband is a gp and i guess i was a bit too relaxed about trying to get hold of records. Do i need to trace them to take them with me or is it enough to tell them they have had all the required vaccinations Thanks
  15. thanks for the information. the quote i got was from Nat Ross and it is a sheared container. seemed very expensive to me so im now trying to think of the things i really need and leave stuff behind. Im not taking any white goods as we will have to rent ot our house here. taking large sofa, tv and tv unit. computers, pictures, golf clubs, 23 bikes, 1 bed, lots of books, clothes, kitchen utensils.boxes of toys including xbox, wii and bedlinen etc. we are in mayo so i guess its a bit more expensive but still. over 4000 seems too much for that amount of stuff. i know i can send 20kk boxes with an post for €65 registered post which arrive in 5 days so maybe i should send as much as possible through that and just use the container for the bulky stuff????????? Will check out the company you used. thanks again.
