  1. If you dont spend anytime on MBTTUK where has this post come from?? Surley when your surfing the new posts you would just ignore them as they dont concern you. I know i do. 5 years ago i would have been on a coming to Oz section because it concerned me, now that im already here i dont feel the need to go on it anymore. But then im not stuck in Tassie freezing to death indoors with the heating on with nothing to do. Incidentally i dont care......
  2. ......and of course you guys spend all your time on an area of a forum for people thinking of "returning" to the Uk, moaning about them.........Get out there and get a life :biglaugh:
  3. I see. So the wages are so good in Brisbane your having to work "lots of overtime for a number of years". So i assume your hourly rate is so low your working excessive hours to keep your head above water. What a fanastic lifestyle you have.
  4. i think that strengthens my point. If uk is 10th and Oz is 8th then surely there isnt much difference either way and the Uk system has certainly a long way to go before it hits that pan
  5. Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same. Ive been in Oz a few years now, have both passports and can come and go as i please. However whenever im asked which place i like the most i say the UK, which can cause friction. Im not saying the UK is any better than Oz, no other reason than the fact that i was born there and prefer the culture. I dont really care if the standard of living is better in Oz (always a hostile debate) and the sun shines every day, i dont want to watch AFL, rugby league, aussie cricket etc. Id sooner be at Lords, Emirates Stadium, Ascot and drinking in an old English pub. No particular reason for this just my preference. No amount of sunshine can override that. On the flip side i can see an Aussie point of view. Why would they give up their glorious weather, beaches etc to live in the UK. How many Aussies want to watch England play soccer, cricket etc. Why cant people understand that?
  6. Not sure if thats right. Although it could be if you discard London commuter belt wages. My mates in London seem to think around #30-40kmark. Still with the exchange rate at present it looks poor compared to Aussie dollars. #26000 gbp would equal $39k in Sydney and im telling you that you couldnt eat off that. In fact most people in Sydney would be making at least 70k and relying on their partner to make the same to live anywhere decent. Any less than that and you could be living in a real bad area. Dont wait for a housing crash here in Sydney theyve been saying it for 20 years.
  7. Fair enough i take your point, not a bad explanation actually. But surely not all Australians have access to the private schools here and how many chinese/indian students are using their universities for exactly the same reasons as you mentioned.
  8. Blacktown is not the best of areas im afraid. If you walk around the town centre youll see heaps of poor Sudanese immigrants walking around. I woudlnt say its that dangerous however. Theres nice areas in the hills district, Baulkham hills, castle Hill etc but these can be reasonably expensive and are far from the CBD. Avoid Mt Druitt like the plague. When i say this im not exagerating. It has to be one of the worse areas ive seen both in the UK and Australia. Just drive down one of the streets and youll see rough looking thugs sat on their verandas staring at all cars coming past with a long neck beer in their hands. I think if you had to live there youd be on the first plane home. As people have said Leichardt is nice but the closer the city the more the rent.
  9. RH are you still not here? Whats wrong with you? You must be getting pretty despondent by now that you cant get a job and the rest of us have dual passports!!!! 23 celcius today lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be raking it in. I know your a prison warder but lets face it living in Dewsbury your in gaol 24 hours a day, does that class as overtime?????? Lol. Come on Hoff get out here and we can meet up for a beer you procrastinating spineless goon!!!!!!!!1
  10. Quick question... So why are these foreigners so keen to do a degree at our universities??? Is it because the system is down the pan so its easy pickings for them or is it because they are rated in the top 10 of the world? "The reputation of the top UK universities is sound, that's why rich foreigners want to send their children there, they have the best tutors, and they can afford the fees." and if they are full of overseas students what about the locals who graduate there? Havent they had even stiffer competition to get in? Your words not mine
  11. and of course $750k is the average amount all Australians would have..... What have you been doing for the last 18 years saving all your money and living off germs? Its no life ploughing all your money into a pension.
  12. Sorry skani i forgot Tasmania are the best at everything. I do appologise..lol
  13. Maybe my keyboard is not the best? Or maybe id have just said 'me spellings not that good, fair dinkum'. I think as usual people are missng the point. First of all i stated that UK was hardly going down the pan, evidence of which is the fact thaye have 4 unis in the top 10. Not that i want to make a comparison but why hasnt Australia, sorry hasn't. Its amazing but no matter how many statistics or figures you post on this web site people just cant handle the truth. Keep digging.......
  14. Behind his move?I reckon the exchange rate! Only joking
  15. Get that chip off of your shoulder big Les. Your doing yourself no favours my friend. I was clearing stating a few facts that are a popular complaint from expats on this site. I repeat the word EXPATS, you know Pomes who migrate here( NOT Australians), seem to think that their children have no opportunities and the education system is failing them. As it has been stated 4 out of the top 10 Universities are from the UK. Now forgive me if im wrong but dont most individuals who get a place in Uni have to attain a certain level of education to get there??? Aren't these foundations laid at their schools and colleges? Or did these people simple wake up one morning change their nappies skip school and head straight for Uni already fully conversant with the knowledge to undertake a degree.
