  1. Australia is not the UK, it is not Europe, it is not FULL, people need to look at the bigger picture, this is a totally unique economy and country, until people stop emigrating here (unlikely to happen for a century or two..) then, particularly WA will continue to grow or remain steady, there is no more mining in the UK yet people still live in the old mining areas, look at the old mines on the south west of England (Cornwall and Devon) where they used to mine tin and copper, many years ago but the area is still populated today... Until people realise you cannot predict the Oz market the better, it is all too easy to predict how the UK and Europe (And USA) will fair, Australia my friends is a different beast, Not only do you need to understand economics but also about social movement to start trying to predict how an emerging country like Australia (it is still young) will head, coupled with the rapid advancement with its Asian counterparts. When the mines finally close their doors (couldn't even hazard a guess when) there will be enough people in WA to to mirror that of the East coast and I would easily foresee a population of 100 mill in Australia. Once you get to those figures I believe (looking at other countries) they wont need the mines as much and Oz will be much like a European/USA mix... But I am going off on a tangent there, and that is many years away, certainly not in my life time, so in a nut shell, people on here are wishing bad things on Oz, I say leave it alone, stop hating on it, this young kid has a lot going for it and old Europe cannot stop its progression with its dire economy. FYI I wouldn't post a negative thing about the UK, I love the place and I wish it does well and turns its fortunes around and can climb out of the current financial pit it finds itself in, and it will, no doubt about. Waffle over! :chatterbox:
  2. Dilemma, so please mods, leave this here! Rav4 Have an old model CR-V (2006), looking to get a new RAV-4, though not sure, should we just go for the last shape, i.e say a 2010 model, or go for a new one? has anyone looked at that new Toyota Access thing they seem to be going on about, looks like it could be a goer? they also offer min buy back, but Rav 4's all hold their value very well. Or shall I just get the 2010 model, less money and still will hold its value? what have you lot been buying???? help please people.
  3. Don't live in Australia, people will only slag your new area off, and possibly you. best stay in England with all the happy people.... (P.s Perth is the best place to live in the world, and that's a fact, just don't ask me for the source!) Oh and welcome to PIO! :ssign5:
  4. Did anyone else go to the Nannup Music Festival? was a really good wknd, especially for the kids, such a kid orientated festival (well as much as you can expect!) top weekend, if not a little tired and a little bit sun kissed! *Spoiler* (the next bit will really annoy the "I hate it when people say they come here for the weather" mardy bunch on here!) Its one of the many reason why we came to Oz, getting to go to a festival without freezing or drowning in mud
  5. Nation Service = youth sorted, JTC for Prime Minister! (or Whatever they call it over here!)
  6. Tonymyman, can you not get a new one ordered and installed at your old dears (assuming they do the same here as in the UK) and they will remove her old one, therefore that issue dealt with, and on your one call up 5 local sparks, explain the problem and ask them for a fixed quote to replace/fix a broken fan. Simples.
  7. a lot in life seems about being in the right place at the right time, along with the old saying, 'its not what you know but who you know' In WA all the job apps all said the same thing WA experience essential.... All I can say is keep plugging away, speak to friends of friends, its amazing how many people know someone in the same line of work as you and could introduce you to an otherwise closed door...
  8. The Chippie test is easy, I had to do the Joiner test, remember Carpenters hide they work behind plasterboard, So Chippies are allowed a tolerance of 1" and Joiners generally work to a tolerance of + or - 1mm  Ha !! I jest of course (no not really, I have seen some hideous work before on stud walls), as long as the person is competent at their trade and can use the tools in a safe manner then there is no issue. If you use the search box on this site for 'Joiner Vetessess' or 'Carpenter Vetassess' then you should find all you need to know (for what is involved in the practice exam)
  9. I wouldn't base what field of surveying you go into just to get to Oz. You would be setting yourself up for a fall. I currently work as a CA (though in the UK my role was more PQS, but still for me the roles are very similar) If had chosen to study Building Surveying instead of QS then I wouldn't be in the field I love.... So you have to decide what you want to do then do it. do you know the difference between a Building Surveyor and QS for example?
  10. Chin Up Proview. All good things come to those who wait.
  11. No, tis true I'm afraid, the Crimbo period coupled with the holidays mean double down time, Just experience it myself.....
  12. Have you tried typing in "job sites in Australia"..............
  13. Arrrr So strong But on a serious note, you bring in $1600 (together) a week after tax, so you spend $400 on rent, and $1200 a week...... on?
  14. Good on you. Its his loss, I hope you have a wonderful new life down under.
  15. One point on the Africa bit, i.e you are talking about Zimbabwe, that the reason they did that was because RM stirred up so much racial hatred at the 'White Man' who lets face it basically took over Zimbabwe many years ago. While obviously not condoning violence If you saw if from there side. i.e these 'whites took our land many years ago, and we want it back' Albeit in the modern era many of the white indigenous Zimbabweans, were farmers who supported communities with the land/Produce/jobs etc...and there was none of the violence seen in the decades/centuries before hand. This is a minefield of a situation, unfortunately the white man was forced from their land, many killed in a mob rule hype induced rage all thanks to RM. As we all know now Zimbabwe is in financial ruin and it looks like a bleak future ahead. Does that mean the white farmer should have stayed in place? or should there been a transfer of land over a period of time so they could learn how to run the farms in an effective and profitable manner..... the questions go on... So in short, why were the whites killed? it's because quite simply the whites took Zimbabwe by force. In the cold light of day I would be intrigued to see the list (that does not exist) tallying those killed when the overthrows happened....
  16. Well Shizzle my Nizzle! 11 pages! . not read them all, peeps do get riled on here. Any who, since this has all been kicking off I can confirm the following, Adventure World is around 15 mins from our door, what a place to take the kids! and cheap as well if you go for a season pass. (This is one of the many things that contributed to us leaving London for here, it may not be everyone's cup of T, but for us at this stage of our lives, with two youngsters this defo beats what London could offer us in the UK Summer, especially as 15 mins from our London flat we would only just be on the North Circular!!!) As our stuff has just arrived we have been without a TV for 2 months, we have not missed it in the slightest. Our kids would watch the Gruffalo on the Laptop if they want to watch something, but our UK TV does not work over here, so at the minute we just use it for DVD's. I doubt we will bother getting a digital box as we don't want to watch TV, we just have music on. Has anyone else found this since moving over? Thats is all, only on thing which is a little strange, the Oz 50 cent is absolutely huge! and the $2 coin is so small. these are just observations not a whinge!!! JTC
  17. Hi mate, You should sit the Joinery one no? the chippie one is totally different (hipped roofs, saw horse and all that shiit) I sat my Joinery one about 2 years ago, if its any help you will need to probably show them you can use the machines safely, (fixed ones obviously) Have you been keeping up with your drawing skills? if not get the old 60/30 out! You have to do a nice doodle of a door and sash, to 1:1 scale, then set out and produce a haunched mortise and tenon of one of the sash joints by hand, no machine work allowed (you receive the timber planed to the correct thickness though) Mark out a single fight of stairs, complete a face to face safety question air. Easy to the p-easy good luck
  18. the container actually left the UK around the end of Nov, it was at sea for 6 weeks, then 2 weeks quarantine. But agreed, faster than we had expected.
  19. its only ironic if it is unintentional, this is intentional, thus its not ironic.
