  1. Hi all, I've decided to emigrate to Oz in three years time, and I've decided to go as a skilled worker, in the form of a surveyor. I already have an idea of what *I* think would be the type of surveying where most jobs will be available come the time I get over there, But right now I'm in the lucky position where I have the option of choosing what type of surveying I want to start learning via a degree here in the UK. If anyone can offer any thoughts or advice on what type of surveying work is most in demand over in Australia at the moment, and what they predict will be most in demand 3 years down the line, I'd really appreciate it. I only really get one shot at this, and I need to do it right, so I need as much advice as I can get If you're in Australia and know about this sort of thing, or are based elsewhere and have done some really serious homework on this matter, I'd really really be thankful for any wisdom you can share Thanks in advance folks!
  2. Me and my wife are moving to Perth from the UK in July. I'm still undertaking my degree but have 10 years experience in both public and private sector construction since leaving school. Anyone know any decent contractors or agencies I could contact about work? Thanks. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
  3. Hi, I'm aiming to emigrate to Oz this year with my family. But need to find sponsored employment as Contract Administrator as they are known in Oz (basically a Main Contracting Quantity Surveyor). I have 7 years experience but no BSc in Surveying, but do have a Geography Degree and Post Grad Diploma in Quantity Surveying accredited by th RICS, which is making a 175 Visa difficult to obtain. I'm trying to get some interviews lined up and head out there. But obviously got to get the interviews first. I dont suppose anyone could impart any advice from their experiences relative to my current situation? .
  4. Hiya. I'm a 27 year old, from Manchester, now settled in Melbourne. I worked as a construction estimator for 7 years in the UK, for various companies, including Carillion. However, I have no formal qualifications in the field to show for it (though I do have a Physics degree). I have applied to study a Surveying Diploma with The College of Estates Management in the UK (keeping my options open in case it doesn't work out here). The nature of the course states that I must be getting relevant experience whilst doing the diploma. Due to my lack of formal qualifications (my experience doesn't seem to count for anything), I'm having lots of trouble finding work in the industry. I plan to visit lots of surveying practices in the next few weeks to offer my voluntary services for a couple of months (in order to satisfy the terms of my Diploma). I just had the thought of posting on here first, to see if anyone would take pity on me :-) If there are any quantity surveyors in the Melbourne area who could do with an extra pair of hands towards the end of the year for a month or two, please get in touch. I'm extremely keen to get this Diploma, have lots of experience already and will pay for my own insurance (so that whatever company you work for would not be liable for me). Really hope that someone can help. Thanks for reading, Martin
  5. Hello Everyone! I really need some decent advice! My sister is married to an Australian guy and has a 1 child and another one on the way! They are thinking about moving to Australia in the near future and my sister wants myself, my mother and my girlfriend to come as well. We are all interested in going with them. I am a Cad Manager in a Land Surveyors and Site Engineers based in Surrey UK, I have City and Guild qualifications in AutoCAD draughting and I am working towards ICES (Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors) certification. I have over 15 years experience within Draughting and Surveying. I am waiting a reply from http://www.sssi.org.au to see whether I could apply for certification through their membership. My partner has 2 Degrees one in English and in French, she works at a University as an Education Advisor for international students and deals with immigration etc. Any advice would be much appreciated on what is the best route to go? Many Thanks Mike
  6. Hi, I'm a 23 year old quantity surveyor, I have experience in refurb with my first firm and surfacing / minor Civils with 2nd. I'm up to HND construction with my qualifications but I think my work cv speaks alot better as I've had quite the opertunty for high value works and a quite a range of contracts for what you'd probably expect from someone at my age. I've got a visa so I'm just after what is the process to finding jobs over there while still being in the UK or any tips to how much current work is out there, will I be ok with my background and anything else you have to offer. Thanks
