  1. Hi All, Posting this for a friend who wants to move to Oz with his family. I have looked on the SOL for Farm Manager (hes been one for 10+ years in the UK) and found nothing. Do you guys know if: 1. Farm managers are ever on the SOL 2. Can Farm managers get a 457 sponsorship? 3. If no to any of the above, is there any possible route over here, or is it just a case of not required, therefore no chance of getting over here. Many thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards JTC
  2. Hi guys, thanks for the replies, @ Oz, We looked at the FIRB, but for some reason couldn't make heads of tails of it, will look again. @newjez, I think the tax office will ask where a large sum of money has just appeared from... but yes this was a consideration! would surely have to pay tax...
  3. Hi all, I understand anyone can purchase a new build if you are not a resident, but my question is: the MIL is over on an aged parent visa (804) with a waiting time till processing of 356 years. Is she able, in some way, shape or form, able to buy an existing (2nd hand) house? I fear the answer is no. Any advice welcome. Cheers JTC

    UK capacity

In regards to services, I wouldn't say they are creaking I would say they have cracked. It doesn't help that only a few years ago (before I left the UK) I saw a doco on people who were trying to get off the rock n roll and they were actually better off on the sausage roll then doing a minimum wage job. Which lefts face it is really all they will be able to get until they work there way up. I believe parents have a lot to do with it and once a kid gets into their mid to late teens its generally too late to try and put them on the straight and narrow. Thus the circle continues. Why would you bother to work if you don't see your peers, parents and grandparents not working? In regards to why London is heaving: You do know why Dick Whittington came to London... That still applies to this day.
  5. My Mrs was actually going to go ahead with the kids and I was going to follow 3 months later. As the Gluten Free organic free range bread winner, I wanted to stay behind an finish a landmark job that had started for my old company (It would have stood me in good stead in Oz). Then I was going to come out about 10-12 weeks later. However I had no job lined up and while the Mrs wanted me to do whatever would be best for the family we both agreed that I had to come out at the same time as its not fair for her to make that journey herself, let alone start up anew life for us! I had no job lined up when we touched down only interviews (two the next day). It took me two months to snag a job and while it was nice having two months off with the family, it was also rather stressful as it is ultimately and unknown timeframe. Good luck either way and my opinion would be go together if possible. Cheers JTC
  6. Can anyone tell me realistic Salaries ? As a QS? I couldn't tell you 100% as QS's over here tend to work only for PQS firms, i.e RBB, Slattery etc... if your used to working as a QS for a MC then (as you have no doubt worked out) you would be classed as a CA. Wages of a CA vary, Tier 2 (with exp) you should be getting (All site based wages though) 130k ++. I know Senior CA's can get up to 180 ++ on the bigger jobs (over say 80mill + and mainly Tier 1). But it really can vary, I know CA's with a few years experience on $115k ++ then again I know of some on only 80k++ (both at the same company). Other wages on site vary as well Site Managers 150k - 175k (No ++), CA's 75k-130k ++ and PM's 175k to 220k++ What Systems you are using ?, Cheops, its OK, but the version I'm using is a little outdated I feel. Some real insight into Whats possible - I've found I apply for Senior roles, and up end feeling/being a Junior QS. As is so common over here you really need WA experience before they will even consider you (and that is the same for any state). Its all about getting your foot in the door and going from there, but its getting your foot in the door that is the hurdle, I know, I have been there and it is very stressful. Even if you enter in to a junior role you will quickly progress through the ranks or find employment with another firm who will value you. Good luck!
  7. I think you have just answered this yourself. The money is better for less hours. Not sure why you would look at the sick pay as anything other than a bonus? are you off sick much? 20 working days for annual leave is standard 36 hr working week sounds less than civil servants! 3 on 4 off..... I'm not sure what's there left to discuss, if you have gone through all this rigmarole and now you have the job offer you should take it. Stick it out for a couple of years then seek new employment if there is the opportunity. Though you state you field is specialist so options may not be in abundance...
  8. I would say the market is defo picking up and there seems to be more talk of some bigger projects kicking off in the middle and towards the latter part of this year. I work in Tier 2 so I don't doubt for a minute that you will be able to pick something up with your experience. What have you been doing since you left? same roles? Cheers JTC
  9. Hiya, Yeah its a strange old market, and it depends on who you work for as to how stressful or easy your job is... and of course money talks. I do think things are progressing though over here and it will, in time be less "Wait A while" and more "Way Ahead".....
  10. Russell, But once its lodged, it in the system...then you can then get a bridging visa if you leave to go on holiday....
  11. Thanks Alan, Its evident the Gov are trying to make this a difficult visa to do. Cheers JTC
  12. Hi Wrussell, I believe its currently 36 years! but the MIL will be applying "onshore".... Cheers
  13. Hi Maggie, thanks for the response. That's my fear... Cheers
  14. We have a Telstra T Box and its $25 per month for all sports channels, not lock in contract.
  15. Hi @BobPetairUK , Looking to bring the MIL and dog out to Perth, Though I need your help with bringing out the latter.. (Yes a comedian of a Son in Law I am...) The dog is currently in London and we are keen to know the process so we can get the ball rolling, please can you let me know what services you offer and what the time frame is plus costs. Many thanks
  16. If anyone has any questions on this job feel free to ask as I have now been over here for two years (In Perth) as a CA and can answer any questions (well, as best I can!). And @bensdad I will call you back on Monday. Cheers
  17. Hi all, Long time no speak to some. I'm having an issue trying to actually find and fill in the Aged Parent (non contributory) 804 form for the MIL on her "immi account" page. Below is the 804 on the immi website: http://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/804.aspx Which states "Apply here" but all that does is take you to the fillable in PDF, which you can fill in and save onto your desktop (but not the actual immi account page) My issue is, once we have logged into the Immi account there is no where to actually find and commence the 804 form. the only options available are the most common ones. (you can click find visas but all this does is take you to the homepage again....) Does anyone know how to get round this issue? I assume immi are making it tough to actually do as they will (I'm led to believe) be closing this visa option soon (again). I also note that you cannot commence any of the parent type visas online (in your immi account). Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, i'm going mad and the clock is ticking.... Many thanks
  18. I cannot believe they have called it Prince Albert!
  19. My firm gave me a car allowance and fuel, I didint get health cover, but somehow I got life insurance through my companies super scheme? Long live the NHS! but all depends, some firms will give you squat!
  20. Roads seem pretty busy to me here, some of the main roads are absolutely chocca block at certain times it does remind me of London congestion. For what my opinions worth, construction seems pretty busy, loads of subbies seem to think we are through the worst of it, they know more than me. Plus our pipeline is looking good. So its six of one and half a dozen of the other, I think a few people on here look for any negative stories and pounce on them (in both countries) ad not just economic ones... Peeps, its best to focus on where you live right now, if there is a recession here I'm sure the British Broadcasting Corporation will find out before you. If your retort is to say "but I am looking to move here in the next 6/12 months and I want to know what I am going to face" then I say to you, I can easily find just as much negativity about the UK as over here. What some people fail to understand is that the coast (WA wise) is still very much an untapped resource (by that I don't mean natural, though there are areas of natural resource) I mean by way of population, WA will mirror the East coast over the next few decades. Build it and they will come. These threads were around when we moved over 6 months ago and 6 months before that.... here's a real positive story over commercial rates in London.... If someone can find me a comparable in Perth I will eat my hat. http://order-order.com/2013/05/30/wake-up-and-smell-the-losses-guardiancoffee-needs-to-sell-270-coffees-a-day-to-break-even/
  21. lol that first pic looks like the hallway in a working mans club... Delap was let go I see, there goes half of your attacking options!!!! COYS
  22. I agree Unions have a place, like to stop slave labour and ensure people are not working in squallar, I think everyone will agree with that, and I am the first to let someone know if there is something unsafe or unjust happening. Unions (I only know about Construction ones not other sectors) over here take things to the next level, which I don't fully agree with. Anyway, I want to get the full picture on a subject so I thought, I may as well read some of their articles to see if they have a point, Now, I saw an article in their so called magazine and they basically hate anyone on a 457 visa... yet on the next page they write through gritted teeth how immigration is needed but it must be controlled. Their publications are a joke and quite frankly seem to be written by kids, there is no quality control and they make out all the building firms to be monsters. So, if your on a 457 visa and the union want you to join, tell then your visa status and let them know according to their latest propaganda magazine your not wanted.... [h=1]Are you affected by 457 temporary visa workers?[/h]Have you been rejected for a job in preference to a 457 temporary visa worker from overseas? If you’re in the construction industry and have been told there is no work, only to discover the job has been given to temporary visa workers we want to know about it Source CFMEU WA People will say the same in the UK when the Poles came over, but at the end of the day when Poland entered the EU they had the right to travel to the UK, like it or lump it its the same for the 457's. All I am saying is that Unions end up getting too big for their boots and have morphed into something their founding fathers, I believe would not be impressed with. Rant :chatterbox: Over

    Hmmm..

been here a few months now, in that time, 2 people at my work have been broken into, and 3 friends 'friends' have been broken into as well. there was a petrol bomb in south Freo just last week. There are (90% of the time) crack heads on the Corner of Uluwatu 'Massage parlor' (https://maps.google.com.au/maps?ie=UTF-8&q=uluwatu+massage+south+street&fb=1&gl=au&hq=uluwatu+massage&hnear=0x2a32a2ec8ee3a32d:0xe63d895968075515,South+St,+WA&cid=0,0,15679073553069139397&ei=g4-bUfnjN4iziQefn4G4Cg&ved=0CEIQrwswAw).... they are all off their faces on crack and clean your car window.. lock the doors quickly!!! I came across all of this in London (crack heads in Kings Cross), though I feel burglaries are higher here, not through news channels (though news over here loves to say any crime related story), but through friends and families we have met since we have been here. even where we lived in London I hadn't come across that many burgled friends in such a short time. You don't come here thinking it is crime free... how could it be lol, but I would say strangely I felt safer in London than here, but that is largely due to living in the same are of London for best part of 30 years so you know where is safe and where is dodgy... Were in Hammy hill which has good sides and crap sides, but we have had no bother since we moved in. maybe something to do with all the metal grilles/bars on the windows round here....:policeman: time will tell, not liking the way the press hype up the word 'king punch/King hit' over here..... its the same as happy slapping (not the action the 'kudos' of naming a form of assault) that was all the rage in the UK a few years back. While happy slapping could 'only' perforate and ear drum, king hits can kill..... N.B - Other than the above I am absolutely loving Oz! not sure the point of this post, I will call it an observational post. that is all folks. good night.
