Booked flights to Perth, one way, 2 adults 1 kid 1 infant £2,300 - Tick (Mid December) Got passports back from Oz Embassy in London with Visa stickers in, now defo getting double baggage from Singapore airlines! #Winning
  2. I love London, I really do, but it time for us to go as a family, I've spent best part of 30 years here, gonna miss it alot, and even this story below doesn't bother me in the slightest, the only worrying thing is that he was found guilty and allowed to leave court and return in Dec for sentencing, now, seeing as he is a foreigner he will prob abscond, and who would blame him! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-20036326 I digress, Things I won't miss about London - Brent Cross, I hate shopping there... especially on a Sunday.... Otherwise I love London, it is rough in certain aspects but is the best city in the world* (*if you don't have nippers) My reason for moving, I believe Oz will be better for the family and give us all the outside lifestyle we are after. Plus we can spend time with our Australian relatives. How long we stay there god knows (though I don't believe in him so who knows?!?) if we make it 3 or 4 years and get our passports/citizenship then great, if not we will come back, no biggie. Some people get so het up on here about coming and going to Oz. If you stay you stay, if you don't you don't, its not a failure if you come back, we will look at it as a family vacation. And while the kids are still young, 1 and 3, it should be a laugh for them as well. Don't get me wrong, we have sold up and it will cost a pound or two, but in comparison a friend bought a new Volvo C30 when it came out for £24,000, 9 months later his misses was due and he part exchanged it for an estate and only got £14,000. so he lost 10g in a year and has squat to show for it.... we have spent, circa, £4k on the visa, £3k on shipping £2.5k on flights, so say circa £10,000 on the whole process.... Who knows how long this journey will last, and what it has in store for us, but one things for sure, it starts this December and were all looking forward to it! I won't be comparing Oz to the UK, how can you? I won't be comparing the cost of eggs or bread, and if need be I will cut my cloth accordingly. This is an exciting chapter in our lives (and everyone in the same boat as us) Perth international here we come!!!
  3. Renting is a nightmare in London!!! lucky for me when I was renting my flat out!!! http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-homes-crisis-rents-to-go-up-beyond-families-reach-8220608.html
  4. Hi all, I am currently a Projects Surveyor working in London for a specialist sub-contractor, dealing with the usual MC's (Kier, Jerram Falkus, Lend Lease, Balfour Beatty. etc...). work in a variety of sectors, and deal with contract values from £1 million to £30+ million . I will be heading over to Perth in Dec, and I am looking for work in the same role. In Oz it would be called a Contracts Administrator. I have been touching base with recruitment agencies and keeping an eye out on the job sites, but if anyone knows of any posts opening or currently need a CA then please do PM me. Many thanks in advance JTC
  5. Scotland's former Auditor General Robert Black has questioned whether providing the current range of free public services can remain sustainable. the 'Headlines' if you will, are... And while he said there has been extensive attention paid to budget cuts, less has been paid to rising costs, including: A £4bn backlog in roads and public building maintenance. The cost of travel concessions rising to £500m in the next decade. Council costs of waste management rising to £580m Personal and nursing costs rising by 15% each year. Free prescription and eye tests costing £150m each year. Drug prescribing costs double what they were a decade ago. The estimated cost of health and social care for people over 65 rising to £3.6bn by 2030. The full story can be read here. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-19839096 take from it what you will....
  6. Hi all, Can anyone point in the right direction, or let me know of the best Primary Schools in Freo, East Freo, White Gum Valley etc... many thanks JTC
  7. surely you mean Ft3 not m3.... a 1000 cubic meters is an outrageous amount
  8. We have had quotes to move circa 550 Ft3, (London to Perth) in a shared container (20ft) lowest was John Mason at £2500 (Excl AQIS), the highest was Crown at £3600 (inc AQIS) So your quote seems good, Cheers JTC
  9. This sound like a Daily Mail story! this has been happening in the UK for years now......over a decade, this is not a new phenomenon in 'western' countries, especially English speaking ones. I would say get used to it cos it aint going to change. You yourself, I presume, went over there and potentially blocked an aussie from getting a job, and if you have kids the same will apply when they look for work. You have to accept it, even more so in a country that has untold growth, given its size and population v the UK, this isn't going to change for many years. :ssign9:
  10. Ha, Milton Keynes! Funnily enough I was there today for a meeting, its a **** ole' *insert full stop here* Good post though, were heading SOR so make of that what you will.... On the TV front, we experienced the turd that is Oz TV when we were there so are fully prepared for it... We may not take our TV... I don't want Sky (Foxtel) and like you said, adverts all the ****ing time. Have you a job already lined up? if not have you found there is a lot of competition for jobs? Cheers JTC
  11. Hi Ian, Its £2,500 shared, I think circa 500 ft³, and £50 extra for the TV box, we have had half a dozen round now.
  12. Not much you can say really. Thoughts go to the family, and friends. At least the scum bag led police to where the body is so the family can have back and give her the proper burial she deserved.

    Ipad 3

Yes, I can confirm the Ipad is *boom ting burv!* *really good my friend!* (of course, one doesn't speak like that at work!) Got the 32gig one (not Cellular just Wi-Fi), so will be taking it to Oz with us this Dec, I had a 10% discount paypay voucher (Thanks Ebay!) to use so all in it cost me £378. Did consider the Kindle Fire, but the size of the screen is too small, the kindle is a great size for reading, don't get me wrong, its a good little device. But with the Ipad its ease of use, (we both have Iphones) all the apps, its just easy and does all we need, I don't care there aint a USB port, I don't really use the one on my laptop! (except for the printer and docking the Iphones!) So, in an nut shell, if your debating getting one or the other (Kindle fire, or similar) get an Ipad. Simples
  14. Nice one mate, I managed to sell my flat last month, cash in the top pocket:wink:happy days. We are heading out to Perth mid December so should meet up! Hot hot hot crimbo!:ssign4:
  15. Can you expand on this? this is news to me. Cheers
  16. Hi, Cheers for the advice, the Nissan Dualis is the Qashqai over here, the only reason they renamed it is because they feared that the Australians would call it 'Cash Cow', the Prado looks good but is big and a bit pricey.... I like the look of the Dualis/Qashqai though not sure if I want it in Black or White, Black I like but White could be useful in the heat sun (or it might not make a jot of difference The pic below is an 2009 @ AU$15,900 the Prado at AU$100,000... Think I will pass.... It is a beast!
  17. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, wherever you may be, What are everyone's thoughts on what car to buy when in Oz, I am after an SUV, and have ear marked the Nissan Dualis, KIA Sportage and possibly the Freelander 2, but I think you are really paying a premium for the F2. So actually I don't want an F2. Im not one, and never have been someone who really cares what make or model of car I own, as long as it obviously half decent and safe etc... I.e I dont keep up with the Jonse's! Hence why I think you are mad buying an X5 or even an X6!!! I think they look pretty decent and price wise they seem pretty good, If you look for a Freelander 2 (2008) at around AU$23,000 it will have around 200,000ks on the clock! where as you can get a pretty new Dualis (2009) 50k on the clock for 15k, I am defo leaning towards this or a KIA Sportage (I think the Ford Kuga looks good but has only just come out so there aint many second hand cars around) Do any of you have these cars? any downsides? any help/ideas or pointers welcome. Cheers JTC
  18. As the title says were off to Perth (in December) and were after an SUV pref 2008-2012, say along the lines of Nissan Dualis, Kia Sportage, Ford Kuga etc... Not a Freelander 2 as they cost an absolute fortune! PM if you can assist. Cheers JTC
  19. How about Albany, lovely area, good sized population, we have a lot of relatives down there and considered it, but Perth pipped it... for now! Or Margaret River, top beaches for the surfers! and it is a pretty decent wine region! again solid population so work could be better than other places. Thats it from me. I wouldn't consider anywhere else, i.e Denmark, again lovely (down the road from Albany) but just a little to quiet for my liking!
  20. Hi All, How have we fared this week???? CO's and Visas for all???? JTC
  21. Chin up guys. It will happen soon, have faith!
