  1. Thanks everyone, really useful. I think I will get the label in our passports, the idea of having trouble at the airport with baggage, plus a one year old and two year old is giving me palpations just thinking about it! Ta very much, Sarah
  2. Does anyone recommend Atlantic Movers? We've been to PSS to Crown and about 3 others, prices vary from £2,500 to £3,600 (Crown!) and wonder what people think of Atlantic movers. cheers
  3. HI all, We booked our flights a few weeks ago and both my husband and myself spoke to Singapore airlines separately during the process and asked them about baggage allowance. Both times, they said that we were entitled to 'migration' allowance which was double the amount. However, we asked how the airline knows you are emigrating and they said they should see the visa in your passport. Now, I don't know if I'm missing something major here - but, we don't have anything in our passport - should we (slightly panicky voice!)???? The airline was unclear in their answer to this - and we were a bit distracted to press them at the time as we were concentrating on booking the flights. We'd love to know of others experience of this. Many thanks, Sarah
  4. Hi all, I have read all the posts on TV's - still a bit unsure whether ours would work in Aus. However, one of the shipping companies was very persistent that we should ship ours (40inch Samsung - about 6 years old). I mentioned my queries about doing it and he suggested that it should certainly work with sky or Foxtel type package and that if I didn't want to subscribe then we should ship it anyway and then sell it when we get over there, as we would get more money for it than here. I just wanted to ask all you clever people whether you thought they were just trying to get me to ship more stuff or whether you thought this could be a viable option? Cheers, Sarah
  5. Hi there, Thanks I will do that in the future. This is useful info (it all is!), but wasn't actually the one I was looking for. Thanks very much for replying anyway - I'll keep searching. S
  6. Hello, I remember finding a really useful thread a few months ago about a list of questions to ask shipping companies - I now can't for the life of me find it!! Anyone have any ideas?? Ta very much. S
  7. Thanks very much. Yes, I'm pretty excited about the fact my kids will get to grow up in such a fantastic place
  8. That's really helpful - thank you. Could you give me an idea of how much a 3 year old program might cost me? Sounds like the kind of thing I would like to do with my daughter. Ta very much.
  9. Hello, I am getting myself in a bit of a muddle reading different posts and internet info, so thought it would be best if I wrote one instead! I am due to arrive in Fremantle in November, I have two children - my daughter is 2 years (3 in Feb 2012) and my son, 9 months. I have a couple of questions: - when would my daughter be due to start school (think this is still called Kindy?), I have been told by a couple of people in Oz it would be Jan 2014, she would be less than four - is that right?? Seems very early to me? - I am quite keen to try and get her into some kind of daycare, for say 1 day a week, soonish after we arrive. More for her benefit than mine, so she can make some friends and feel more settled, as I will still be a stay at home mum looking after my son. However, I presume coming straight from the UK, I would have to pay full wack for this? In the UK you get 15 hours per week when they turn 3 - is there any such thing in Australia? Would we be entitled to anything? - How much can I expect to pay for daycare? - Lastly, are there very long waiting lists for daycare - should I be putting her name down now, even though we're not sure exactly where we'll end up?? Thanks so much for any thoughts on this. Sarahx
  10. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, even though it is only 4 months till we move!! Bit scary as I haven't been able to organise anything yet due to an operation. However, I'm on it now!! I just wanted to ask all you knowledgable people about taking electrical items over with you.... - I see from a few posts that most people seem to take electricals/white goods with them. My husband is not so keen as he doesn't like the idea of using adapter plugs for everything - in that it might be unsafe to do this on a big scale. I'm clueless about this kind of thing....can you just change the plug to an aussie style one? Thanks so much in advance for any advice. Sx:err:
  11. Hi, I expect my husband will track you down when we emigrate in November. He will be leaving behind his beloved......Spurs! So you can have a few arguments over that one (my side of the family are gunners though!)
