  1. http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/676/obligations.htm [h=2]Visa conditions[/h] You must comply with the following visa conditions: you must not work while in Australia Note: Voluntary work may be permitted. See: How this Visa Works you must not study for more than three months while in Australia. In addition, your visa may be granted with the following conditions:
  2. Ireland's agreement covers services as a public patient in a public hospital (including outpatient services) for medically necessary treatment medicines available on prescription which are subsidised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), at the general rate. http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/medicare/reciprocal-health-care-agreements/health-care-for-visitors-to-australia So hospital care and medicines but not GP care. So if you can afford insurance for the general GP cover you will be OK.
  3. 1, Never ever move around the world to stay with 'family' that you have never met! says it all really! 2, research to death the cost of living so you are well prepared including having enough savings to provide full living cost for up to a year. We only had enough for 5 months though thought it would last longer. 3, Make no assumptions and dont take at face value everything you are told about Australia, the people, way of life, cost of living and how easy or hard it will be to find work. Its all personal and varies widely depending on who you are, what you are like and what you want. One of you could love it, the other hate it.
  4. It doesnt lead to PR, you still need to qualify and apply through skillselect the same as everyone else. http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ But there are now routes for those on temp visas in australia.
  5. Being spent under UK law means nothing to migration and to Australian Law. Nothing is spent when applying for immigration. Plus 5yrs is not necessarily true, depends on the age at time of offence and sentence. Could be 6 months could be 10yrs. http://www.nacro.org.uk/data/files/nacro-2007021302-65.pdf
  6. Definitely get her citizenship. Wont effect the UK process at all and keeps doors open for you or future generations to go back. Great you can meet the requirement with savings, seems rather hard for people to meet it now. But once you are in the UK and on a visa with permission to work your income can count combined or on its own.
  7. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/sol/ Skilled occupation lists http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/ To see which if any visa you might qualify for.
  8. There is no set amount they ask for. They just need to see you can cope with your partner not being entitled to centrelink. I've seen people on centrelink pensions sponsor partners and people in low paid jobs. My husband sponsored me for a spouse visa and as we both lived in the UK he obviously had no job in Australia. We included both our CVs, P60's to show we have been working for years and proof of savings, not a huge amount but savings all the same. We felt that showed we were both more than capable of getting jobs and had a good work history. We said as much in our personal statements. If your parents are willing to help with accommodation or funds thats great too. Get a statutory declaration from them to say how they would help.
  9. It makes no difference when you call them. He's entitled to it up until the day he leaves the country. Ring Monday, give them the date you're leaving and it will be paid up until then. Depending on pay dates he may not get any for a week before or he may get a payment after you arrive in Australia. Or leave it until the day he leaves, makes no difference.
  10. If you already have a PR visa why would you apply for another?
  11. Being 'resident' and being a 'permanent resident' are two completely different things. Same as being British and 'resident' in the UK are. If you leave the UK to live somewhere else you are not a 'resident' but of course you are still British. Same as having PR for Australia you will keep even if living in the UK but you wont be 'resident' in Australia.
  12. If you are resident in Australia you are not entitled to Child Benefit or Tax Credits or any other benefit you might be getting.
  13. Might help someone. http://www.newbuy.org.uk/ initiative to try & get the market going again.
  14. You do know this comes with a no further stay? Meaning you can not apply for another visa whilst in Australia. You also have to be a Genuine Temporary Entrant, which as soon as they realise you will be staying with your Australian partner they wont believe you are. A student visa for yourself, your son as dependent would be a better option. Meaning you could at least work.
  15. You do not need to declare convictions if you are an Australian Citizen, says so on the card.
  16. They dont usually reject people because they are from a specific country. You say you were rejected because they believe you would overstay your visa and not return home. Do you have a job? have family to care for? These are reasons to return home which you need to show within your visa application. But otherwise you're partner will have to visit you. Or like Rupert says apply for a skilled visa if you have an occupation?
  17. So apply again, what reasons where you given for rejection? Not every one from the middle east is rejected. You focus on the reason for rejection and give proof that you are a genuine tourist. Or they come to you for a holiday?
  18. No, http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/partners/prospective/300/eligibility-applicant.htm [h=2]Relationship[/h] You must have met (as adults) your intended spouse in person and know him or her personally. This must be the case even if: it is an arranged marriage you and your sponsor met as children and the marriage was arranged before you turned 18 years of age you met on the internet (exchanging photographs is not evidence of having met in person).
  19. No, its a requirement of the visa. What if you hate them when you actually meet?
  20. Nope I asked for my visa to be put on hold knowing I'd be in the same situation and was denied because I had completed medicals. I then asked for an extension on the validation date and was told pregnancy is not cause to change the date given and I had to validate 6 months pregnant and got stuck by a volcano on the way back!
  21. Sorry :embarrassed: still no other email address that I can see though! http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/australia/processing-centres/partner/
  22. Thats the right one. Melbourne wont be processing it, it's centralised by visa type. The reply you get from that email is from QLD & thats where I had to send all my second stage stuff and I'm in NSW.
  23. Whilst I understand your frustration it might not be the best move to get your medicals done if not asked. You could still be waiting and then have to pay out to get them again. I know that would just make me madder, long wait & double costs!
  24. Sounds like they may want to put your visa in. Congratulations  The visa is linked electronically but it is often a good idea to get the sticker in your passport for ease. Many people will want to see it to prove eligibility such as healthcare & employers etc
